Features

Roguelike procedural generation

When you start a run, a new course to your destination will be plotted so that it is very unlikely that you will encounter the same scenario twice. To survive you will have may choices to make:

Use different tactics when dealing with enemies – cloak your ship and sneak past or attack with all guns blazing?
Gather resources for much needed repairs in the local asteroid belt or hunt down well-guarded traders for their precious supplies?
Explore the mysterious nebula visible in the distance with unknown consequences or stay safe and head straight to the space station for refueling?
Investigate cosmic anomalies and stellar bodies (wormholes, comets, derelict ship wrecks) or try your luck in the next system?

Dying is part of the fun!

EVERSPACE isn't ultra hardcore or unforgiving. Rather, every time you die you will be able to improve your starting conditions for all the following runs. Permanently increase the capacity of your shields, install better engines, improve sensors, upgrade weapons, and attach armor plates – just to name a few.

Most ship upgrades will be directly visible, while some will have a huge visual impact, e.g. upgrading your wings will lead to an entirely different look.

Deep upgrading system

You will be able to dig into the depths of the upgrade tree. Think of perks and upgrades that can change a lot of things – unlock new abilities and equipment, improve various stats and enable several other benefits that may change your play style.

Furthermore, every death will get you closer to revealing another fragment of the story being told. So dying is part of the progression.

Deep story - NOT PART OF EARLY ACCESS

Typically, due to the nature of the genre, rogue-likes don’t have a deep story. We think the genre is just perfect to tell a captivating story in a fresh, non-linear way that unfolds differently every time you pick up the game. So we came up with an engaging plot that makes perfect sense for you to be re-born after every death and come back with a deeper knowledge of what is actually going on and, ultimately, solving the great puzzle. On this we have been working together with Falko Löffler who has been a successful story and game writer for adventure games for many years.

Indepth physics engine with arcade style controls

EVERSPACE is not a full onspace simulation. Arcady controls will test your skills and reflexes without the burden of crazy speeds up to 40,000 km/h, inertia, thrust and anti-thrust.

The controls will be intuitive and optimized for mouse and keyboard in the first place and will be easy to pick-up-and-play.

The game uses PhysX in UE4 you can use mining lasers will enable you to slice up asteroids to extract valuable resources inside. See it in action:

Friendly and hostile NPC's

Space is a dangerous place and so are most of your encounters. Though you will meet friends, allies and neutral parties along the way who will employ you on special missions or sell useful equipment, most NPC’s will try to kill you. They might do this in a variety of ways:

A group of pirates launching from the hangar of a destructible outpost, breaking formation and trying to attack you from different vectors while their chief is giving the orders from a bulky war vessel and firing missiles at you from a safe distance!
Your ship attacking a frigate which is using different defensive patterns and has multiple destroyable turrets and weak spots that can render the whole ship inoperable when critically hit!
Scavengers, traversing the system in search of easy prey or uncloaking right behind you!
Organic life-forms lurking in asteroid fields surrounded by a dense plasma cloud, ready to spring at the next target entering their domain!
Kamikaze fighters ramming their ships into yours when their hull integrity is low!

Indepth damage model

The condition of your ship will be more than just a health bar. Damage to the equipment will have noticeable effects on your vessel’s performance and needs to be repaired using valuable resources. The type and severity of damage will influence your decision on what to repair first if resources are scarce. This will put you into challenging situations where you have to live with the damage or repair it with resources that you otherwise could spend on crafting new weapons or devices.

Deep crafting system

During a run you can craft weapons, ammunition and devices that improve stats or offer whole new gameplay possibilities. Crafting is easy: all you need is a blueprint and the required resources and you are good to go. Some example scenarios include:

You are stranded in a desolate asteroid field. Craft a mining rocket to extract fuel out of certain asteroids that will allow you to power up your jump drive to extract yourself.
Construct a cloaking device or an afterburner to fly past an overly powerful band of warships.
Build an extension to your laser weapon that enables the shield bypass feature.
Whatever you do, crafting the most suitable item at the right time will greatly increase your chance of survival.

Controller support? (I mean xbox controller basically)

Yes, added hardware reqs to OP.

Not sure about joystick support though.

Edit : I believe only XB360 and XBO pads are officially supported, although the devs says you can use a DS4 using DS4windows

Kinda bummed they waited until launch day to announce the XB1/Win10 versions were delayed. Oh well

To be fair, they didn't, they announced it (albeit quietly) on their kickstarter on 9th Sept that the XBO and Win10 versions were delayed.

I only found out about it because I was scouring for info for the OT.

I remember seeing some gifs of the game in a No Man's Sky thread and it looked amazing. Had no idea it was coming to Steam, and had no idea it was coming so soon.

Any idea what it's going to cost though?

Any impressions from those who've played it, assuming those who Kickstarted it have been able to play it?

Pretty much, apart from the price being lower than the final version.

Edit : do you mean much different in terms of features?

It looks pretty finished to me and hopefully isn't actually too far from it. I still don't trust early-access releases but it looks like a case of done it right.

edit. "Captivating non-linear story featuring interesting and thoughtfully designed characters" sounds like it's still missing a lot.

Yeah, the story isn't part of the EA, I've highlighted that in the OT.

Game looks absolutely incredible; it makes me yearn even more for a new Colony Wars. I'd love to pick Everspace up, changing my stance on buying early access releases, but I'm already so swamped with games I already bought and should be playing I think I'll wait it out for a bit.

They said this on the game's Steam forum...

Hi there, the Early Access price will be $29.99. When we will have added the two additional ships, the Hardcore Mode and the fully voice-acted story in Q1 2017 we will raise the price to $39.99. Full VR support might in as well or will be added free of charge later.

Wow I think I'm going to get this, I played Freelancer a lot back in the days and the game look so good and smooth .

And the fact that you keep upgrade and stuff after dying (kinda like Rogue Legacy) makes it interesting , I prefer that kind of Roguelike .

I'll have a look at this. I really like space flight games and i have CDF Starfighter and a couple of others lined up to play this weekend. Yay, that's if this is available this weekend, we'll find out in a few hours.

Hope it's not to long a wait for the XBOX/Win10 version, this will be my first official play anywhere game.

I love good action packed space shooters, looks great from the footage, hope it plays as well as it looks.

Looks dope. Space shooter + rogue like combination seems amazing, and if it allows you to explore different paths to get to your objective... then it sounds like my dream game.

This game has been looking good for some time now, I'm excited to see how it turned out!

Awesome, I've been waiting for this to arrive. Going to pick it up on Play anywhere, so i can play it on X1 until i'm ready to upgrade my PC.

Really looking forward to some console impressions, the PC market is kind of saturate so these games almost always get very critical reviews regardless of how good they are.

I look forward to waiting for this to become a complete game so I can buy it at that point, because it checks all the boxes for what I want in a space game.

For some reason SteamVR launches everytime I start the game and if I exit SteamVR Everspace closes too.

My main concern after playing earlier versions is that there's not much to do in terms of actual content. You mine for stuff, upgrade your ship, dog fight some alien baddies, die, wash, rinse, repeat.

I swore off Early Access after what the Ark developers pulled with their paid DLC so won't be touching this a) until it's done b) there's a solid story campaign with varied missions like blowing up a space station, rescuing miners trapped in an asteroid belt, escort missions, huge star wars like space battles you get involved in, etc.

Don't get me wrong. It's a beautiful looking title and I'm a mark for the Unreal Engine 4(though I've grown to accept Unity a bit more after playing Ori and The Blind Forest and a few other nice playing/looking games). I just hope the devs can back the game's visuals up with a solid story line/quest set up.

Does anyone know the standard procedure for ports from Xbox to PS4? I kickstarted hoping to reach the console stretch goals, and then they announced exclusivity after the deadline.

Is it a year exclusive?
