LTTP: Darksiders Franchise. So when's Darksiders 3?!

Recently got both Darksiders during steam sale and waited forever to start it.
Finally did it couple weeks ago and WOW these games are LONG.
I remember playing the demo way back then and wanted to play it but totally missed out.
Don’t have much to say regarding the first one, which has probably the most badass/hypest ending ever in a video game to me.
The ending had me like:

man-in-crowd-screaming.gif

The second kicked off really well with the fast paced gameplay and platforming.
Seriously this felt like a Prince of Persia game with all the wall running.

The soundtrack, especially for the second one, was beyond amazing. The voice acting is so well done, it literally gave personality to the games.
The horsemen were badass, especially Death, who makes Kratos look like a kid throwing a tantrum because he got his candy stolen.

This guy is one bad mother******.
His sarcastic and chill attitude adds so much character and I think I have never experienced such a protagonist in a video game before.
War is equally badass with his calm demeanor. If I had one word to describe the two horsemen is Sarcastic and Intimidating, Death and War respectively.

My only gripes are that some of the puzzles are very rage inducing
because they usually involve me missing a ledge while exploring and wasting time looking for the solution.
Some of the boss presentations are great, especially Samael in the second one.

I honestly started this LTTP to know about the status on the third game.
So what is the word on the street? Are they working on it yet or is the franchise in limbo?

Either way, third game or not,
these are two incredible games that shouldn’t be missed if you are Zelda/God of war fan.

The first game really impressed me. I loved how it was a mix of Zelda and God of War, and had a blast with it. That's why I'm really excited for the remaster.

Darksiders II was much anticipated on my end, and while I think it's quite a good game, it's not up to the level of the first. The loot system is an improvement and the combat is better, but it's far too heavy on dungeons and repetition.

Please make Darksiders III, and make it more like the first.

Since they are possibly transitioning their company name to thq, and soposedly have 30 games in development, it's easy to guess that one of those is Darksiders 3.

I feel like the way the story is set up, they'd do 2 more sidequel things with Fury and Strife and then a fifth that's a true sequel, but that's just too much, I can't see it happening.

Just don't give me a 4 player coop game, please for the love of god.

It's too long and there was a crazy drop off in quality between the first world and the ones after. If we ever get 3 I hope it's been in the oven for a long time.
Did we ever get the full story on what happened there? I assume THQ knew shit was going south and rushed it out the door hoping to recover some money?

Agreed. That would totally kill what the franchise had going for.

I honestly don't mind a game with strife and fury before the pick up where the left off at 1's ending. Or they could make a game featuring both horsemen and make Darksiders 4 a true sequel to 1.

For sure. I don't understand the general dislike for the game though. I thought it improved upon the first in most ways, and the "Zelda" features of the original were overblown anyway. The only things I didn't really care for all that much were the magic tree (grossly underpowered until almost at the end of the game) and how easy it was to break via crafting.

The game can be repetitive at times especially when you are rushing to finish it. I barely touched on the magic tree, sidequest and other special weapons and just treated it as an action game.

Are the three extra level worth a play?

If Darksider 3 remove stupid looting system and keep the game more like the fist one then i'm fine. DK2 was really bad compare to the first one IMO.

It's more like they pushed for the game to be bigger and bigger, to the point that the dev team couldn't handle a game of the size the higher-ups wanted, because they wanted Darksiders to become a best-selling, cornerstone franchise.

That's my understanding, at least. It's been a while since I've really read anything about the matter.

To this day, the 3 meteors of the other Horsemens are still stuck in the sky, waiting for their moment.

It's said we can hear their voices:

Death: "Are we doing this or what?"
Strife and Fury: "ALL WE HAD WAS A CAMEO IN A DAMN NOVEL!"

I got Darksiders on PS3 through PS+ I didn't know what this game is about but after playing i am now a dedicated Darksiders fan I got 2 on PS4 and I have to agree Death is one badass motherfucker I liked him more than War his brutality and sacracsim mixed with his kind inner self to save his little brother made him on of my all time favorite protagonist.

Darksiders 3 is happening OP 100% a dev on steam forums accidentally mentioned it and not two weeks ago Nordic game has stated they have 30 game underdevelopment.

Now I was thinking who are we getting next Strife or Fury? And will it be a direct sequel to 1 and 2?
Also fuckin Lucifer finally made an appearance!!

Just have to echo what an awesone franchise this is. I'm currently playing part 2 for the 1st time, such a great game. I do hope the franchise continues. Who would've thought a Zelda/GoW/PoP hybrid would work so damn well. And even though the game deals with the end of the world, it's surprisingly not grimdark. There's a lightness to it i appreciate. And Death is an awesome protagonist.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
Looks like the discussion I care about was already covered.

When we saw this at the end of 1

I knew that some shit was going to jump off in Part 2, but it didn't. 2 is a good game, but not what we were lead to believe it was going to be.

Beat 1 on Xbox 360, beat 2 on Steam. I'm there day one.

How do you guys envision the sequels to go down? DS3 Strife, DS4 Fury then What? How can you incorporate all the Horsemen in one story I mean gameplay-wise? Switching protagonist? Co-op? Or make War the main protagonist since he started it all?

Didn't some prototype stuff from 3 surface after everything went to shit with THQ?

I hope they keep the idea of making it a FPS game where you hang on walls and high mobility.

If darksiders 3 is gonna focus on strife i could see it being baded on the ps2 gungrave games
Though the plot would be about strife losing his guns before the events of ds1 if ds2 is anything to go by :v

I'm currently replaying Darksiders 2, and honestly they had some legitimately great ideas for dungeon design going on in that game.

It has this really great Zelda-ish flow of dungeons always seeming somewhat underwhelming, but actually being designed in a way that there's a clear progression with just enough challenge and exploration.

The problem with the game is that despite that, the dungeons are too samey, there are too many of them, and the loot system is a bit of a mixed bag.

It works, though, I like Darksiders 2 almost as much as I liked the first one.

If a potential sequel is anything other than a 4-player co-op game (please, please don't make it that), I'll definitely give it a shot.

A big problem with Darksiders 2 dungeons isn't even always how long they are (though this is annoying at times), it's how same as fuck they all look. Outside of like the first hour or two of DS2, the game looks exactly the fucking same everywhere you go.

Yeah, exactly.

There was no REAL differentiation between, say, finally reaching the City of the Dead and the last three dungeons or so.

It felt like a really robust game with tons going for it, but without the variety in art assets needed to really carry that home.

Oh, also, I just got to the fourth "world"
Earth
, and it's still just as much of an incomprehensible what the fuck as it was years ago.

What the fuck were they thinking with that.
