Only 1. Go f yerself mate!

Laptop probably has a 10/100 Mbit NIC, phone has 5G so pretty good speeds, PS4 wifi is shit. Nothing you can do short of buying a new laptop and using some sort of homeplug solution for the PS4, depending on the quality of your powerlines in home.
Thanks for the response. Surprisingly, i'm too broke for a new laptop. I'm thinking that usb wifi adapter may speed things up. And the wifi extender for my tv and ps4.

I was looking at the powerline extender but I'm not even sure that would work well in an apartment building.

edit:
probably a dumb question, i havent done any networking in a decade. i actually have spare wireless router, can i use that as a switch for my ps4/tv?

Wifi usb dongle might help (make sure you get one with proper 5Ghz support) but you still won't get near 1 Gbps. And you can use almost any router as a switch by disabling a few settings. Your ISP should be able to tell you which ones (DHCP, firewall, etc). But how do you plan to connect the router to the modem on one end and the TV and PS4 on the other if you have no ethernet available?

Do water coolers for CPU's usually run quieter than air flow coolers? I kinda want a quieter running fan for my CPU that doesn't result in a massive temperature rise. My CPU barely goes above 50 for long sessions, anyways, but it's still a concern.

Hmm.. i was thinking i could just use my wireless router as a repeater/extender that i can also plug into it like a switch? If it cant connect as a switch wirelessly to my router i can plug it into another wall as an extender and atleast ill have a stronger signal for my non wired devices.

Or am i confusing myself?

Its a netgear nighthawk so it'll support the speed. I just have to learn how to make it work.

Just as the name implies, a extender increase the wifi range. Do you have wifi strength issues where the TV and PS4 are? If yes, the extender will help, but that still doesn't mean your devices can take advantage of the added speeds. If no or you want to take advantage of your need faster speeds, get a AC access point instead. To max your internet speeds, get one that provides similar speeds to what your router can send out. Then, place it where your TV / PS4 are and wired connect to one of it's ports.

Edit: Since you have a Nighthawk, look for AC1900 Access Point.

Depends on the quality of the heatsink and included fan noise. Generally, a top end air coolers can be more quiet than AIO because you have to take into account the added noise coming from the water pump.

My current PC has FX-6350 and a R9 270X. I was thinking about upgrading the R9 to GTX 1070 when those are available. Is the FX cpu a big bottle neck with the 1070? If I would upgrade the cpu, I wouldn't go AMD so that would mean a new cpu and motherboard. The GTX 1070 is already quite pricey.

I think that the 1070 is a bigger upgrade than using the money on new cpu/motherboard though.

Awesome thanks. Im gonna see what happens with this nighthawk router. May solve most of my issues at once.

Is there a usb3.0 wired ethernet adapter you would recommend for my laptop? I dont care if its wired since i dont really move it.

For it to work as a wireless repeater/extender it should be able to receive wireless signals, it's not a function the average router has. I don't know if a Nighthawk can receive and transmit wireless at the same time.

Usually the router manufacturers recommend connecting the router by wire to the modem/router combination from the ISP for it to work properly as an accesspoint.

Just to clarify, you already have a router, maybe from ISP, and want to turn a Nighthawk into a Access Point? If yes, follow the instructions.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/d...uter-to-ap-mode-after-i’ve-already-run-setup?

As for USB3.0 wifi adapter, I haven't used one so the only advice I can give is buy one with high AC speed with good ratings.

successfully made my router an access point. For some reason the ssid lists twice on my tv, but not on my phone (ssid is the same for both routers) but everything else is golden.

just need a good usb ethernet adapter for my laptop.

So what's a really good, really quiet heatsink/fan combo or air cooler or water cooler for an i5-4590 (Which is on a standard fan/sink)?

What could be the reason for my PC suddenly not recognizing any of my SSDs? Both the one that I've been using for years now and the one that came in the mail today. They don't even show up in BIOS so it can't be Windows-side.

Did you change anything that may or may not have been related? Any firmware, software, or driver updates to anything? Did you accidentally kick it any point? lol

After giving up on the dream of large pci-e ssd I decided to go for Hdd+ssd combo.
So gaf, what do you think about the combination of WD caviar black 2tb and samsung 500/250 gb 850 evo? This ssd is almost 2 years old,any chance of replacment this year?

I have an i5 6600k with a liquid cooler. Overclock this thing to 4.5 Ghz should be as easy as bumping the multiplier to 45 and not changing anything else including voltage, right?

I'm guessing I should also do it in increments instead of jumping right to 4.5.

You'll probably need to up your vcore for 4.5. And yes, doing it incrementally would be a safer bet if it's your first time overclocking.

Hi PC GAF, I'm venturing into my first time building a PC! I'm a graphic designer, and i've been lucky to be able to work on a Mac Pro at work for the last few years but I want something of my own at home that will be custom built. I'll mainly be using the computer for Photoshop (large website comps, photo editing), After effects and Premiere (don't foresee editing 4k). With this computer I want to get into 3d design and experiment with VR. I just learned about the 1070's today, and I'm interested because it seems I'll be safe performance wise for a while. I don't need a graphics card right away but if the 1070's are going to be sold out for months I don't think I want to wait that long, so getting the older card with a marked down price might be what I want to do.

Here's my list of parts. I was kind of in the dark when it came to choosing a motherboard. The only thing I knew it needed was a good amount of usb 3 slots. For graphics card I don't want something top of the line (and pricey).

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mLj8FT
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mLj8FT/by_merchant/

Any idea on availability of the 1070's when they come out? Are these things usually hard to get hands on at release? I'm totally new to this game. Any advice would be appreciated.

Edit: looked over OP, wanted to include this info

Budget: <$1500 USD
Main Use: 3.5
Monitor Resolution: running games at 1080p, want to be able to run VR units
List SPECIFIC games or applications that you MUST be able to run well: photoshop, after effects, premiere, c4d
Looking to reuse any parts?: Nope
When will you build?: I have no immediate need for graphics card. Would adding in graphics card later be hard?
Will you be overclocking?: Never done before, but likely not.

I would go with something like this. You can not get a video card now and maybe wait for the GTX1070. Up to you.

What's the highest I can get to without bumping the voltage? and out of curiosity what are some symptoms of the vcore not having enough juice given a certain multiplier like 45+? Random crashes?

Not sure, depends on what stock vcore your motherboard gives it (which I think probably depends on the motherboard).

I would aim to keep it under 1.3V if you can, though you may need to go a tiny bit higher (e.g. 1.32V).

Symptoms would be random crashes, blue screens, boot loops, failing to POST, just general instability.

In terms of wattage I'm good but I'm considering a 650W for a system with 6700K a XX80 gtx card, SSD and a HDD. In terms strictly of connections, would the EVGA 650 80 Golds have the required cables for everything? Never messed around with power supply connections before :|

Wait a month for the 1070. It's not a good time to buy a 970.

Yeah you'll need a new cpu. No doubt here. Your problem is either the 270x will bottleneck a faster cpu or your 6350 will bottleneck the 1070. What's the better option? Both aren't great but one will give you better performance over the other in different games and situations. In your situation a long time plan may be the better choice: I'd go for a new cpu first and wait till 1070 prices settle down. Normally prices for new gpus are higher during the release period (couple of months) and Nvidia seems to charge a higher price for the 10x0 founder editions cards on top of that and you get nothing out of it but the bragging rights for owning one. They cooling on founders cards is bad (they reach 83°C and start to throttle down) and they come with only one 8 pin connector for power. I seriously start to wonder why people are in a hurry to buy a founders card in the first place, but whatever it's their money.
So, buy a new CPU and start saving up some money and wait till we get affordable non oc 1070 cards from 3d partys and/or a good gpu+game bundle.
Or just save your money for a couple of months till you can afford buying a new cpu, mobo, ram and gpu in one go. Also the CPU market could change a bit this fall with the arrival of amds new zen architecutre which could offer a better perfromance per price ratio.

I have an i5 6600k with a liquid cooler. Overclock this thing to 4.5 Ghz should be as easy as bumping the multiplier to 45 and not changing anything else including voltage, right?

I'm guessing I should also do it in increments instead of jumping right to 4.5.

Stable 45 (+600mhz) might not be doable without touching the voltage. But normally there is nor harm in trying and yes do it in increments :)

Is there a noticeable difference from CAS 14 vs 16 RAM? I'm looking at DDR4 3200 to pair with a 6700k.

If I'm totally wrong here, pls someone correct me but afaik:

Lower CAS numbers refer to faster retrieval times. But normally the real world difference isn't that huge. Of course if you want to handle large files (let's say video editing) going for ram with better latencies might be a good idea.
But there is a problem when comparing different CAS latencies today: the ram clock speed.
When comparing latencies at different clock speeds, latencies must be translated into absolute times to make a fair comparison; a higher numerical CAS latency may still be a shorter absolute-time latency if the clock is faster (and often enough is). So CAS 16 ddr4 @ 3200mhz is in general still faster than let's say CAS 14 ddr4 @ 2400mhz.

Is it worth buying CAS 14 vs CAS 16 ddr4 3200 ram? I doubt you'll notice a differnece in normal world scenarios like gaming. But just a year ago also everybody thought that buying faster clocked ram wouldn't impact gaming at all. And now days we have enough proof that the opposite is the case.

Did DF do any DDR3 clock benches? Not planning to upgrade my Mobo/CPU for the forseeable future but I only have a pair of 1333 sticks, so if I would see notable gains in combo with my OC 4790k and a 980 Ti/1070/1080 in the near future I'd be interested to snag some higher clocked (and better looking, sporting bare sticks for the time being lol) RAM.

Not really a problem as I can change it to what I want, but anyone have any idea why was that?

So, parts are on the way, what started as a MoBo and CPU replacement ended up as a system wide upgrade:

Intel Boxed Core I5-6600K 3.50 GHz
MSI Enthuastic Gaming Intel Z170A
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz
GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 980Ti 6GB G1 GAMING OC EDITION -> Got this one for $429
Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 500 GB SATA -> keeping from old PC
Crucial BX200 240GB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive -> Keeping from old PC
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus (1151 Socket compatible)

Antec BP550 Plus 550W

About the power suply, I see mixed results on the capability of a 550 PSU runing an OC'd 6600K and a factory OC'd 980ti, if I have to buy this it would be spending close to $200 more, cause electronics are ultra expensive in my country and that thing is too heavy to import. I can run my 2500K @4.5GHz and a Heavily OC'd780 with it, so I was expecting it would hold, any experts advidce?

With you guys that have fiber connections... the company that I'm trying to set it up through for our move to Cali says I need to have a Fiber Modem/Router. I don't want to rent one from them. What is a suggested solution to this? I already have a Netgear R8000. So I don't need a modem/router combo.

Main concerns are the aftermaket CPU cooler and Power suply, are those still good?, any thoughts or recomendations are welcome :D

Afaik you need the 212 EVO for 1151 socket. Your current model cooler doesn't look to support Skylake.

Mounting holes are still the same afaik. I was able to reuse my old scythe mugen cooler (previously used on a 3570k) on my new z170 board without any kind of problems and it's still able to hold my 6700k @65°C while on 4.4ghz (stress testing).

We know of Sandy bridge, Ivy bridge and Skylake scaling well with faster clocked ram. I don't think Haswell (refresh) is an exception...

Understood, will look into that, thank you!

How's the power supply, can it hold everything together, including the 980ti?

The recommended power supply requirement for that card's 600W (with two 8-pin external power connectors). I'd replace the power supply with a 650W or higher modular power supply.

Is there a reason to go with the the Intel I3 4160 instead of the newer I3 6100 cpu if I want to do a budget build? Or is the OP just out of date?

I know it is a bit sacrilege here, but are there any websites where I can get a good pre-built PC for not much markup over what the self-built version would cost me?
