Red Dead Reremption is now backwards compatible on Xbox One

I've been having a problem with BC Witcher 2's framerate. Turns out that my internet connection was somehow making the game run screwy where it would hitch up every 3-4 seconds in-game and cinematics would flash off and on. Also had terrible slowdown while fighting. Even if I went offline with the console while the game was running, the problems would go away.

Try going offline with the console before playing RDR, or while the game is running if yall are having performance problems. That should temporarily solve the issue.

Seems to be running pretty solidly to me. Some slight judder when panning the camera but it's not bad at all. There are some audio crackles from time to time. Also I thought I seen someone say there was no audio in the opening cutscene but I had audio all the way through.

There are a number of differences already seen like this.

So far now running it on 6 machines I have seen audio cuts, music cuts, warbled music, running fine, running with judder right after cuteness, and running with judder during camera turns.

Just needs some work

Just finished installing RDR, and tried out the game.

Did it always run this bad on 360 or is it just XB1 BC?
When was the last time you did a hard reset? A full power cycle, if you have your Xbox set to instant on, can solve a lot of the X1's performance issues.

I don't understand how it can be so varied?

This should just be the first thing always posted lol. Such a bit difference and even if it doesn't fix everything the number of times it improves things is insane.

yea I'd suggest a reboot after first boot of the game. Seems to solve a lot of issues. It's smooth as hell now for me after that. before I had the audio issues etc.

Holy shit, guys. For those who were having framerate drops in towns, do a clear cache reboot. The game is running without those heavy drops now, feels like the X360 version.

The only game that works for me is American Nightmare.

I also own Bomberman, Geometry Wars 2, Castlevania and Halo Wars from that guys list but I can't install any of these.

Yep glad to see this getting on some of the other sites too.

Well we have seen this take effect with the 360 as well and it had far less processes going on but still caused. With the PS4/XBOX 1 you have a large number of processes being run, have been run, cached and so forth. Most likely we are seeing an impact of all those things sort of like the with windows hibernation issues in the past.

Clear Cache reboot?

You mean Hard Reset and holding down the button 10 seconds?

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

Not actually that important

You need to do "follow profile, select game" trick for Castlevania (and I guess the others)

Also bear in mind folks that the performance issues might be one of the reasons they haven't officially released it yet.

Might be my favorite video game... I am envious of any of you playing it for the first time.

This is #2 of my personal GOAT right after GTA Vice City.

Beat the 360 version of this years ago and traded it in when I got rid of my 360.

I knew this would be coming to XOne BC at some point so I'm glad I bought the digital version at the Christmas sale for $7.

Been waiting impatiently for it to appear in my download list.

also mention Symphony of the Night, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 are also now BC.

Now this is huge; fucking awesome right there. Symphony of the Night's Xbox 360 release was one of my favorite digital releases of all time, it's great to see it on Xbox one.

I played this through until Mexico, and I think I gave up after the train mission. Is it worth completing? I'd need to re buy.

Yes, haha, I got up to early Mexico missions on X360 as well and did a few missions on XBO now and they are very fun.

I think I was just fatigued at that point. When it opened up a whole new map I'm sure I audibly groaned.

How exactly does bc work on the One? Do you put in the disk then it installs something?

If the game is BC and you own the physical copy all you do is put the disk in. When it is inserted for the first time it will download the version that is BC. In short, it is usually a bit larger than the original game file which contains the stuff that makes it work on the Xbox One. Once it is downloaded, you launch the game and after a bit it loads in like you are turning on a Xbox 360. Once that is done the game loads up and you play it like you normally would any Xbox One/360 game.

If you own the digital version, the game will be waiting in your "ready to install" que, all you need to do is download it and play.

I'll try the hard reset to see if that fixes the towns.

Also, are people actually able to get SOTN to work?

Damn this game has really held up well

I don't own a 360. If I buy RDR on the Xbox website can I download it to my X1?

Typically yes! And when it official releases you can do that. But for now, you have to find someone who already had it installed and go through their profile and their followed games to get to the download link. You still purchase through Xbox.com but you need the back door method to download it.

Eventual it'll be a publicly listed page.

Wesley S Shark is my gamer tag if you want to find the link. Rockohoward is the original gamertag to use

Thanks! Though RDR is still $50 on the AU store so I might get a physical one for under 10 and just wait

Just followed F4hey from Kotaku and it's installing now. I guess I did buy it digitally at some point. Instructions on Kotaku for those that missed it.

Been playing for 2-3 hours now, really enjoying the game. For some weird reason the entire first hour I just spent roaming around the starting town shooting people trying to figure out which ones would draw against me and which ones would result in an immediate game end. I have no idea why but it was fun.

Honestly if you told me it was a 360 emulated game I wouldn't believe you, mostly runs and plays like a remaster. Very impressive stuff, Microsoft.

It looks absolutely fantastic. This is definitely what I needed to hold me over until The Division haha

Thought this was some kind of sick joke of a thread that I missed out on!!!

Downloading it now!!

I'm sure it's not cleared for public yet, but I can't wait to try it out anyway.

Sooooooooooooo happy it's here (sort of here, lol). This was #2 on my list. NCAA '14 being my #1.

That recent system update for preview members fixed the choppy town in RDR, but that's probably because the cache was cleared during that process.

It's working great! Very impressed.
