Rise of the Tomb Raider's garbage combat

I never had any problem or noticed this at all on xbone on any difficulty... it might be you
Sooooo yeah, an issue that has been widely reported by most people who have played the game, even some of the more hyped people, totally doesn't exist because you didn't notice it. You're definitely completely unbiased and can definitively say that. Yeah.

Hope it's fixed whenever I get it.

It has a large deadzone, there is a difference. If it had input lag it wouldn't be relegated to people having trouble aiming in combat, you wouldn't be able to do basic shit like jump without feeling it.

There's both. I had a thread about it a while back.

I just finished the game and thankfully never noticed this. It pays to play games late at night where I blame myself for being sluggish and not the controls.

I do remember enjoying the combat in TR2013 more, but I think that was due to the encounter design and new crafting system rather than anything to do with the controls.

Beautiful game and the combat sections are short/easy enough that they didn't take away from the fun parts.

I started the game right after it launched, and finished it a few weeks ago and in between that time it felt like the input lag had been patched, was a much smoother experience the second time I went back to the game.

it would be interesting to see a video side by side of this game and metal gear solid 5 or Gears of War Remastered moving the stick the same amount and see how each game reacts.

Maybe then people would quit denying there is a problem or blaming players.

so i went ahead and tried the demo....

....and i honestly thought it was fine. Seriously, it was more or less in line with how 2013 XB1 version felt. A little heavy but fine if youre not expecting this to be Uncharted @ 60fps or Titanfall

so yeah, im actually gonna take back what i said and pick this up now :)

There really is no denying it. Some people may not notice it as much, but it is definitely there. I started on hard difficulty and the shit aiming made me change back to normal because I was getting killed in a certain spot too often.

TR2013 felt so good, this was definitely a step back in that regard.

It's noticeable for sure. Switching between it and TR2013 makes it even more pronounced.

I did sort of get used to it but was still disappointed. Thankfully since combat is dialed down it didn't ruin the experience. In fact it was still my GOTY even with this glaring problem.

The demo only has one very brief section where you aim at enemies though near the end.

You really can't see how the aiming feels in the demo.

I'm very surprised this hasn't been patched yet since DF has talked about it a few times and the issue isn't present on the 360 version.

C'mon guys that is not even debatable.
Just play the 360 version to see how the controls is supposed to work.
There is a clear issue in Xbone version.

Anybody trying to defend this issue when you have the exactly same game running in another platform better is dumb.

It is like people trying to say Bayonetta PS3 was fine... it was shit and anybody that played the 360 version knows that.

As soon as you get to the second part in the demo (desert area), u can draw/aim ur weapon right away and that's what I did. Felt fine.
Sure I imagine if the fps dips, that'll effect it, but at a base level, it was fine.

Yeah, it's lower, in a game that runs at twice the framerate and I've STILL let go of the stick before it starts to move, because you're slowing shit down to the point that you think you're making a point, but you're not. Feel free to go 'scientifically' test this with any game.

Okay.

But i dont have access to the 360 version. Bit difficult to compare then really.
But he maybe i should buy a 360 again just for this test..

I spent many hours playing it to the end over Christmas and I had no problems whatsoever, so it's far from garbage, I'm not saying there isn't any input lag, but I certainly didn't have any issue with combat at all.

I even did some of the quirky achievments like shoot a chicken in the air, and the shoot a bottle in the air with zero problem.

There is noticeable input lag, and it severely affects the gunplay. The fact that absolutely none of the reviews mention this makes me think why I even take reviews seriously anymore.

This. I've been reading a lot about the game (will play it on PC) and is the first time I hear this O.O I seriously can count with the fingers of one hand the number of reviewers I trust.

Agreed. The combat was the worst part of ROTTR. Imo they should've focused more on exploration, platforming and puzzles and heavily cut down on combat encounters.

I still really enjoyed the game, but yes there is some input lag - which is a shame, and even more of a shame hearing they haven't patched it yet :(

I never said there wasn't, but there's a big difference between what people are reporting and what I'm showing. If you frame by frame my video it's something like 2-3 frames of lag.

If it were 3 frames of lag in a 30 fps video, that's 100 ms of input lag. That's too much to defend, sorry.

But the problem is even worse. Doing a frame by frame analysis of your video, other gaffer pointed out there are 6 frames of lag. That's 200 ms of input lag and that's unplayable for me.

I hope this wont be in the PC version. How come i havent heard of this before?

It was in all the technical threads at launch, were you going to DF? I doubt it'll be in the PC version. Nixxes is working on that after all and their optimization process is frankly stellar

This is exactly what i was thinking. I've heard nothing but praise for the game, sleeper hit, robbed because exclusive blah blah. Now its as broken as Uncharted 3? Jeez.

Not gonna preorder on PC until its confirmed that this issue is not present.

Well obviously you guys never went into the OT. Been mentioned there numerous times.

How can I aim people in the head when I have to deal with unresponsive camera controls? WTF, the game is pretty awesome with the tombs and the explorations, but when it comes to combat...it's awful because of the camera.

I breezed through the game on 'survivor' difficulty and had zero issues in getting headshots. This is one of the GOTY contenders for me. Controls weren't super sharp, but it did not detract from the game for me in any way.

Had no issues with the games combat or completing it on X1. Granted I didn't run in guns blazing and usually took my time to stealth kill enemies or get single, double, triple headshots with the bow. In the end none of this affected my overall experience with the game.

Noticed it when I reviewed the game. I pretty much ran through the combat sections just to get through them. The input lag was dreadful, worse than the first game. Rockstar or Epic Games needs to show every developer how to do third person shooting controls ha.

Wow.

I stopped playing GTA5 cos of how shitty the shooting controls were, in both 3rd but especially 1st person. Really really bad.

That too has input lag and is a joke imo that this was also not pointed out by the masses.

I'm glad someone made this thread. Aiming a gun in that game is an absolute chore. I don't know if it's input lag or huge dead zones or what, but moving the crosshairs a small distance is next to impossible. You can move the crosshairs a huge amount or not at all, but anything in between is a nightmare.

Guys guys, just don't use the bow, use the Big Motherf*cking Gun and aiming will be no problem

Some of the post in here lol

I complained at first, got used to it and then forgot about it. It didnt kill my enjoyment of the game tbh and if I were reviewing it I would mention it but wouldnt mark it down for it.

I don't think I really noticed it much when I played, I had more problems with the framerate taking a hit during most combat scenarios. Thankfully a majority of the game didn't seem like Combat to me and I spent way more time just exploring and stuff so it didn't bother me that much. The final area though, framerate was consistently not so great there even outside of combat.

I used molotovs, grenades and other explosives to kill everyone so i didn't have to shoot.
That's how i dealt with this problem.

I sure as hell would Mark it down a point. I went from having to playing it on my big theater setup to my monitor just to make is feasable to aim because I was adding input lag....to more input lag. It was the most unenjoyable experience trying to shoot and having the cursor overaim, underaim, the delay ruined my experience. It's really noticeable when you get into the larger screens. It alone has kept me from finishing the game and will continue to do so until the PC release since they apparently have no plans to fix it.

So obviously Crystal Dynamics still haven't fixed the input lag. Lame.

Do they even want to? Are we sure it isn't there by design?

Artificially making combat more challenging by making combat relevant input more imprecise is a valid option if the designer wants to discourage it or drive point the fact that the character is inexperienced.

This game is still about the Rise of the Tomb Raider...

This was my experience as well. I did notice it more when zoomed in while aiming, but I got used to it quickly and adjusted. Not the end of the world to me. Great game.

360 version plays ok... not a design decision lol

Lmao if that's what you're going for your tools are weapon sway and animation timing not goddamn input lag

360 version runs fine so this isn't true at all. Also, this is not valid and is pretty stupid, IMO.
