Assassin's Creed Syndicate Review Thread

Videogamer seems to have encountered a lot of glitches, maybe they didn't get the day 1 patches? Or no one did?

They also have a video with glitches (mute recommended):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Mdn5Tn1zBo

Don't mute unless you need to. Video is hilarious especially the conversation with an invisible man.

"I hope you don't mind me being here?"

" quite the contrary, it is nice to have the company. "

I trust videogamers 5. They may goof around in their videos, but their reviews are generally solid.

Surprised about that Gamespot review score, not surprised about Game Informer, one of the most lenient outlets out there.

looking at the wide variety of scores,it looks just it's franchise fatigue..some people are gonna be ok with ANOTHER assassin's creed..other might be harsher after the Nth release

Are you saying this is an issue?

Burns is a very good reviewer who is able to convey his thoughts well - both written and via video.

Yup, he actually considers and talks mechanics, structure and gameplay, i don't always agree with his opinion but his reviews never read like a fluff piece like certain reviewers.

Kind of feel AC and CoD are at such a point it will take a truly awful game for the franchises to die.

Lol gives a new meaning to hiding in plain sight.

Gamepro.de a very suprising 87.

[a quick and dirty pro-/contra translation]

+ lively, visually impressive London
+ beautiful soundtrack, successful setting
+ great facial animations
+ great-designed missions with good variation
+ good working game mechanics
+ motivating conquest of london territories.
+ working raw material and money management
+ stealth is an alternative to combat
+ game is demanding (difficulty wise) for the most parts
+ good structured story
+ many memorable characters
+ sympathetic heros
+ many main and side missions
+ dozens of optional activities
+ new bonus missions after first playthrough
+ gigantic game world

- looks worse than its predecessor
- german dubbing often out of sync
- trivial collecting
- to easy final chapter(s)
- present time story is silly/trival
- plot holes

overall sounds better then unity.

Watching select Youtubers playing this and I'm not seeing great facial animations at all.

Pretty solid reviews overall, although I don't take them seriously very much.

Waiting for user impressions.

Wow, lots of 8..
and salt.

I'm now interested to give this one a go later. The most important thing for me is that it runs a lot better than Unity.

I've gone from "I'd never consider it until it was £10" to "hmmm, this looks tempting".

The combat looks a lot of fun, and the London setting looks pretty good.

But man, do I really need another huge hundred hour opus when I've got Mad Max and TW3 sitting there unfinished :-/

I'm literally dieing of laughter. Why don't they take sometime to develop the game, whats the rush??

It's not like it's a single studio doing a new game every year. It's split between different divisions and studios working in a two/three year cycle. So they do take time to develop the game.

Well, I feel this AC is very average. Very few changes, graphically it is a bit worse than Unity, missions are quite samey and boring. Story is ok I guess, nothing amazing. Combat is very repetitive and especially since there is very little enemy variety (like in all AC's but this feels somehow worse). UI is also worse than ever with the annoying circle around your character all the time (luckily you can adjust the HUD).

Jank is very bad in my opinion, maybe movement is little bit better than Unity but miles away from MGS5 for example. The "batman" hook helps a bit but it doesn't work as well as you would hope (not on Batman AK level).

The new base mechanism is nice. City itself is really amazing. Characters especially Evie is quite interesting. Historical figures are ok too...maybe a bit forced though.

All in all, I would give it a 6/10. If you are a London buff and enjoy history in general, I guess just the freeroam in historical London would elevate it to 7/10.

But a 9...never.

Have you ever reviewed a game and gave it a 9 only for someone else to give it a 6?
Would it be fair for that reviewer to call you borderline dishonest if so?

The reviews don't really mean as much as they used to. Want to know if the game is for you? Go to Youtube. Go to Twitch. Go to Live From PlayStation and watch the game. Make the decision yourself.

Some range to these scores, but the consistent positives seem to be on character, gameplay, and world. Still in, that's what I wanted.

Ubisoft were very smart to not mention the game's resolution. Practically none of the reviews mention the 900p resolution, unlike last year where it got a special place as one of Unity's highlights.

Dude, play TW3 first. What are you thinking? :p

I made the thread for it being 900p and for a long time it was my most posted in thread with like 7.5k posts lolol

oh similar to CoD I always thought it was the same studio every year like damn. Surprised that it could look worse than the previous title but that likely explains it and also the co-op emphasis

Reviews are a little all over the place but that being said, this doesn't sound too bad for the most part. Still looking forward to playing it for myself on PC next month.

Maybe in cutscenes? No idea, just translated it rawley. Also not planning to buy this year's iteration tbh. PC Release is in November and FO4, Battlefront and the Bloodbrone DLC is enough for me.

It's weird when I see quotes along the lines of "best assassin's creed in a while", "a step in the right direction", "the most refreshing entry". It just feels like these quotes get thrown out by the same publications every year. I have no idea how this game can be more refreshing or unique as 4, as that game came closest to being a different experience entirely. I don't get it. This game will get tossed in the generic assassin's creed pile when next year's game comes out, I'm sure of it.

lol french magazine getting all french salty because syndicate is the better game and is set in London and not in glorious Paris like unity

What are you talking about ? I don't think they care if the game is set In Paris or London, if the game is good then it is, if it's not, well it's not...

Black Ops 3 looks damn good, played the Beta and was pretty happy for the graphics.

Also 1080p 60fps.

AW looks insane aswell.

Hmm I figured this would review "ok" although the 9's are a little surprising.

Seems if you're fine with the same old Assassins Creed you really can't go wrong with picking this up.

I'll likely get an itch to play the Creed formula in a couple months so I'll dive in then.

so the lower the score the more honest it is?

Absolutely, if you don't like the series being reviewed that is. Don't you know that high scores are nothing but paid shills? It's actually impossible for a game in a somewhat stale franchise to actually turn out good, because it may actually be good.

Seems like the bigger sites are all very impressed with it while the smaller review sites are taking issue with it. Is the game is really that divisive? When Game Informer gives it a 9 and someone else gives it a 5? What' going on here?

But then when you have some sites listing "no multiplayer" as a negative, I know what to think of that review. For me, no multiplayer is a plus. Get that junk out of the game and focus on the single player campaign.

HOOOOOOOO, y'all never fail to amuse me. Keep doin' you GAF.

Better than I would have expected. Good for them! I still have Unity in my backlog so I won't get to this for a while, but the setting really intrigues me so I'll probably pick it up during a sale sometime in the next year.

It looking worse seems to be a victim of it dropping baked lighting and I guess they had to scale stuff back in order to secure a better framerate.

We can either get "okay" graphics and a stable framerate or funky framerate and good graphics this gen.

Humm I am super torn now. Was hoping reviews would all go one way. Have it pre ordered at Best Buy but I am totally on the fence now...

"Game feels too by-the-books"

"So much heart and soul!"

I know different opinions and all that jazz, but that's a pretty big difference to get from the same game.

Maybe the reviewer was playing with French dub? The lip sync looks off on all footage I seen.

Also seems the environment is reason for high ratings. Seems the story sucks.
