Microsoft FY2015 Q4: 1.4M 360+XBO Shipped

We are talking about financial reports though. In those Sony started to combine numbers only couple of years ago when Vita bombed out of the gates. Before that they always gave numbers for each platform (and for home consoles they give platform specific numbers again thanks to strong PS4 sales).

You can see why MS followed suit though -- look at how many incorrect headlines were generated claiming PS3 pulled ahead based on PS2+PS3 sales in the financial reports towards the end of last generation

Not the smartest buy, how's their stock

They announced the write down a couple weeks ago, so the effects on the stock happened then.

1. Buy Nokia device division
2. Stop marketing and release only budget devices
3. ???
4. Loss

They really haven't released anything as Microsoft Mobile yet. Most of the devices that have been releases were leftovers from Nokia. One device is labelled as Microsoft I think.

The new strategy looks to be fewer phones, two flagships..and ... no idea about the lower end. They've been quiet.

i see, thanks for the info

I think North American market doesn't have that bad of numbers but those European numbers are concerning, they had strong European numbers on the 360

These numbers are kinda low if I'm reading this right. Anyone got details on XB division profits?

Everyone would like to know this. For the division that xbox is in, sure, the profits from xbox? Nope. of course it's the most obfuscated part of the reports. It's almost impossible to predict too especially as this quarter they were doing the trade in deal that was like $175 for the console. Far too many unknowns to make any type of prediction.
360 is the minority. Also at this point unless another console launches, the Xbox One could be discontinued right now and would hold second place in terms of units shipped.

I think that was an NX related post.

This should help visualise where Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U currently are. Please note that Xbox One contains three month extra sales on this graph because of results released today. I will update with full results end of this month.

with the flattening trajectory outside of holiday sales, looks like it'll fall behind the PS3 soon, and then quickly the 360, another price cut incoming, they need to do something to stimulate sales.

So the "PS4 and XBO are selling better than previous generation" could end today for XBO, tie with PS3.

Surprised and slightly disappointed to see the graph suggesting there isn't an overall 2:1 ratio given the vast disparity outside of the US. And yes I'm biased, they still haven't paid enough for that E3. The results need to be so disasterous that nobody tries to pull the same trick for another half decade or longer.

For me this whole generation in terms of sales, is more about not taking your customers for granted and abusing them.

Lol wow.

Won't be 2:1 for a long time, and no one will try it again as Xbox has almost lost any relevance it had gained from the 360 in any region that isn't the US or UK.

Is there any chance that Xbone will go under PS3?

It should continue to remain ahead of Xbox 360. Xbox 360 sales were crap in the first 2-3 years.

Looking at the comments it really does look like they're only selling consoles in one region. As a COMBINED total it's incredibly low.

But that would be assuming no Wii U consoles get sold, which is incorrect.

The effects of price cuts will diminish. Yearly sales will probably top out next year if not this year without support of RoTW.

No clue how they can get something out of regions other than NA. They're so far behind now too. Bit of a shame really, coming off the 360.

So Q4 was up YoY significantly, no doubt with far less 360 sales than last year. Great to see Xbox Live revenue up.

Glad to see Surface doing well. I'm waiting until SP4 is released before finally getting one.

It's going to be really interesting to monitor results over the next year as they integrate Xbox into the broader Windows 10 platform. I expect digital sales to increase significantly at the very least.

Numbers increased but what which cost?

To be fair the heavly deals/promos/pricecuts could give a better impact in sales

What are combined Xbone US NPD sales for this years April, May and June?

650k.

But please take into account that this is sold through numbers and will contain sales from consoles shipped before Q4 FY2014/2015. Therefore it is not accurate to compare this sell through number to this quarters sell in figure.

Maybe for a short period. It'll be neck and neck for a while though.

I think it'll be close through Sept., but this holiday starting with Halo 5 will be a huge boost. I also think MS will have a lot more momentum going into 2016 compared to last year where they had no big titles coming for a long time.

I didn't even think about that. This would very much be the case if they implement cross buy/saves on future titles.

Wait, the PS3 was above the 360 for the first 48 months? I thought it had a slower start.

If I had to put a number on it I'd say almost 70% of those shipments are to the US and UK alone.

@ZhugeEX

Your work is always appreciated in these threads, my dude!

Thanks mate. I appreciate the kind words :)

Wait, the PS3 was above the 360 for the first 48 months? I thought it had a slower start.

The Xbox 360 launched November 2005 whilst the PS3 launched November 2006. So when the PS3 launched the Xbox 360 already had a 10 million head start. As you can see from the gap shown above the PS3 did sell faster but wasn't able to sell 10 million more straight away, hence why it always seemed the Xbox 360 was ahead. Because of the year headstart. (note the graph is launch aligned sales)

Can't believe I forgot they launched a year apart.

Looking at this it makes me think that the PS4 will trend similar to Wii while X1 will trend with ps3. It makes me feel like it could be closer to 80 million X1 sold while ps4 sells around 120 million by the end of this generation. I know 40 million gap looks bad but if X1 gets close to 80 million after the horrible launch of the X1 I would be shocked

So XB1 up YOY which is an improvement but possibly not that big vs the actual effort behind it (near constant bundles, free games, etc).

Still it is an improvement and seems to indicate XB1 sales at least covering dropping 360 sales with a bit extra on top.

Sony used to do it every E3 last gen, combining PSP and PS2 and PS3 figures into their Playstation sales headlines.

MS should rebrand surface and lumina as xface/xmina respectively, so they can include their sales in the xbox family sales figure.

I agree but I expect ps4 to level out a bit more and follow ps2 more closely..

Surface seems to finally gotten the push it needed.

yup, really glad about that. I ended up buying a Yoga Pad, but it was a close choice between that and the Surface (was like $200/300 more), but I kinda wish I got the Surface just because I feel like the screen would be better suited for art stuff with the stylus.

Given that graph I don't see 2:1 until 2016/2017 holiday season. No really huge disparity in software quality right now, most of the heavy hitters for Sony getting delayed, typically quiet summer months and then a huge difference across the 2016 seasonal period even if MS slash their prices hard again. Basing this on momentum and software driven in part by a better feed of titles from Japan selling to the traditional fans.

So, that's my guess/assumption.

Eh, I don't think it will be too long honestly, Xbox is around 14-15 million shipped, while PS4 is looking to be around 25ish million (maybe more?), with the worldwide gap only getting bigger it probably won't be long before it is 2:1.
