Thanks guys, so it's normal that I still use that same weapon.
I've been switching between the cane and the saw spear both upgraded with two runes and plus 3. Had the cane since the beginning and found the other pretty early too.

Got my ass handed to me by the two werewolves on the bridge like 10 times, which I assume are supposed to be easy. My first time actually trying to fully beat a Souls game (I tried and quit both DS and DSII after 5 hours due to new games coming out). Don't want to quit this one though. I'll try again tomorrow.
Threaded Cane and Blunderbuss if you're wondering.
My compulsions could make the chalice dungeon the next item-world from Disgaea for me, where i go to level and grind a ludicrous amount just because i can for the next playthrough. It pays of to just start one Chalice as soon as you get the ability to once you do and get good you really are not in short supply of blood vials, bullets and insight.Oh yeah, besides the negatives in my last post, chalice dungeons are totally worth doing. I fought three really cool unique bosses so far that could have easily been in the main game. Seriously, start working that chalice.
I feel like theres multiple paths from there. Am I going the right way?
I just faced 2 gigantic you know whats--one of which (after the first) had a huge wrecking ball on a chain.
EDIT: Scratch that, door was closed near the chest.
I put the set on before opening the door. He still attacked me. I found the reason why:I tried it.That's literally all I did before I got the set - I opened the door and turned back. But apparently opening the door must be the trigger, unfortunately.I even made sure not to wear the Kirkhammer, but he attacked me anyways. And by attack I mean he immediately rolled off the side to his death.
I think you need to have the set before you even open the door to Old Yharnam.

Try rolling/dashing towards him when he attacks instead of away (I'm basically walking in, dodging his first incomming attack and then go on a pattern of:
1. Wait for boss to stop swinging; I move in and do a 3-button R1 attack.
2. Immediately roll away twice, pop a heal, roll away twice again, pop another heal.
3. Turn to face him; activate Music Box; Repeat steps 1 to 3 again two more times.
4. He enters Beast Mode.
5. I Die because his Beast Combo doesn't let me get off the ground.
I've been dumping more stats into VIT and END, hoping it'll let me survive longer. No luck so far.
It's Insight. If you played the Dark Souls games, it's like Humanity.
They had the hammer sword thing, but that was it. :/Shop in the hunter's dream.
Any hats cooler than the Top Hat?
I can not fucking beat theblood starved beast
Every one of his attacks one shots me inbecause ofstage 3and I can't seem to counter any attacks with blunderbuss at that pointpoison
What would you guys think if the game had a combo mechanic with the transforms?
I just warped out of the second half offully cleared up until what i assume is the boss to spend 50k, but oh god that hurts to acknowledge i have to rerun this area.forbidden forest

Wait, really?! I avoided that because it had killed me in another area.

Use your gun! They are quite easy to parry and ripost with their huge swings.Any tips for the first area? I love the souls games but am getting super frustrated. I've made it to the two wolves on the bridge but I keep dying. Should I be buying better equipment before heading further in that direction?
You can run past pretty much all of the enemies in the second half
Losing my mind...
Father G is wrecking me constantly.
I farmed the town up to level 24, Hunter Axe +2 now and bought all the upgraded gear from the bath merchant.
*Spoiler warning*
I also have the music box and use it a couple times during the battle, but he still wrecks me.
Seems like once he gets into Beast Mode, I'm dead.
Should I just keep farming Echoes until I'm like level 30 and just out-level the damn boss? lol
Ha, just got mine... Love it!
I decided to stop leveling yesterday and continue the game while helping low level people get past bosses 2,3 and 4. I do it for the new blood. But I don't help them completely. I charge the bosses and knock them down to below half health, trying to show them not to be afraid. then i take some steps back and take a seat. I watch the rest of the fight, encouraging people to finish off the bosses. It's kinda entertaining. I also feel it strikes a balance between helping them move forward and facing their own fears while improving their playstyle. If you summon someone named Terteryan, don't expect him to finish the fight for you.

Run past the wolves andunlock the shortcut. Between the wolves and the next big ogre guy there's steps to the left leading down into a house. go to the main floor, open a door and go up some steps to unlock a gate and voila the lantern. Now you can get back to the bridge quickly
To be honest I never even bothered beating the wolves, they were too hard

Is it just me or does the netcode really suck?
Do I need to go down ladders? There's a hole next to a house that looks like it leads into a sewer.
Nope, you went the wrong way. That is before the wolves.
You need to gopast the wolves towards the far end of the bridge, but turn left shortly after them. If you reach the big guy and crows you went too far. It's a very narrow path leading down into a darkened room.
I'm not sure. I seem to have no problem finding folks to engage in jolly cooperation with. If anything, the response to search another online player seems to be much better than Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2.
Just finished it. Sorta lengthy write up below.
Really good, though I'm not sure how it stacks along with the other Souls games yet. Starting up a NG+ game.
I think the biggest strength of the game is the setting and tone. I LOVE the Lovecraftian elder god kind of mythos and while we've gotten some of the in the other Souls games, this one takes that and turns it up to 11. In fact I might say that aesthetically this nails that kind of tone better than any piece of media I've encountered yet. Especially toward the end when every monster just looks completely jacked.
My biggest problem with the game (besides load times... yeesh those are awful) so far is that it didn't feel like you were rewarded for exploration like you were in other Souls games. In those games exploration might unearth a cool new item or armor however this game's very restrictive weapon-set and interchangeable armors made that not really an incentive. While the weapons are indeed amazing (I used the cane-whip and mercy blades in my run), the very limited selection meant that you weren't finding items very often. And the armor didn't vary a whole lot statistically which meant it felt like every piece of armor I found was mostly just for aesthetic differences.
As a side note, I felt the game may have been a bit short (my finish time was somewhere between 30-35 hours) and I had a MUCH easier time of the bosses than I usually do in a Souls game. Now I definitely didn't uncover everything and I didn't spend much time doing Chalice dungeons, but I felt like Dark Souls 1 and 2 were more in the 50 hour range.
As for bosses, I only died on 4 of them, and 2 of those I beat on my second try. The other two were a half dozen tries each, but one of those was the first boss where I will still sorta coming to terms with the mechanics. One thing I noticed early on is that while the general strategy in bosses in Dark Souls 1 and 2 was to circle strafe and wait for an opening, the strategy for most bosses in Bloodborne was to wait for the boss to start their attack animation, dash or back out, and then once it's finished close in for a hit or two. If you're having trouble on a boss, try to stay in front of the boss, relatively closely, and wait for them to go through their attack animation, then dash in. Works on most of them, especially the "Beast" ones.
I do like this game, but I do think that without the kind of build variety and the sense of exploration you get in a Souls game, this one might have less staying power. I felt like maybe I enjoyed this one while I was playing it more, but that I'll probably not play it as much.
Thanks, so by going past them you REALLY mean going past them lol. That's going to be tough.....
Anyone else go back to the clinic where you start the game? There's a woman all the way up some stairs which I didn't even know we're there until I just happened to backtrack a little...
Get 10 insight and another merchant unlocks the hub. Insight is also used for playing online.Speaking of Insight, I'm guessing the number in the HUD with the eye-symbol is I guess what we might as well call Soft Insight. It doesn't seem to go away when you die, how do you activate it?
