Bloodborne Press Preview Impressions (16/03/2015)

I've pointed this out multiple times in this thread - and I have a direct source on the BB team - the embargo is there because of the day 1 patch. There is a lot of important content coming in late, and they wanted reviewers to play the latest build for review so they can experience the complete game.

Doesnt make sense to me, they want reviewers to post their reviews after experiencing the patch, but the patch isnt out yet and the reviews post tonight?

Im sure the game will be incredible i just dont see this being the reason? Or is the patch already out?

I hope he embargo isn't last minute because of game quality... I hope it's just to prevent spoiler...

Strange how "embargo" is all of a sudden a bad word when it comes to games. It's like people hear that word and have a pavlovian response to question the game's quality when in fact nearly every game review has an embargo of some sort.

It's probably because the game is large (so reviewers need as much time as possible to beat it comfortably) and had last second additions (day one patch for online features)...

Because if the first 8+ hours are anything to go on, it's not because of the quality. So far it's a masterpiece. (I got it this weekend in NYC.)

Maybe the Day 1 patch will come out before midnight.

I'm not sure of the specific reason, I take your word for it, but yea, the person I talk to reviewing the game also said there's a day 1 patch too.

This embargo thing doesn't bother me as much as not getting any shipping info from Amazon yet... Has anyone had their game ship out yet?

Got my tracking number March 20. Said on schedule for delivery March 24th, but now it's showing March 23 - out for delivery now. This is Amazon.ca FWIW.

pretty sure i overheard some people say it hit the early release games a few days ago or something like that.

if the embargo is due to the patch, giving the reviews extra time with the " complete " version of the game, that makes more then enough sense.

Haven't seen a single video or trailer of this game. Im aware of the setting and the game mechanics, that's it.

Looking forward to Friday.q

I've done pretty well. Stayed far away from the spoiler thread. But did do the dumb thing and watched like 5 mins of that " first 18 mins of Bloodborne " IGN video. So I know the opening.

I got the text from Amazon that my CE shipped last night. Looking forward to tomorrow!

It's been painfully boring at work lately, so I have no idea how I'm going to make it through these next two days...

My wife will usually pop the games into the PS4 and download any DLC or patches it may have day one. Although I suspect she may play this one. She played quite a bit of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls.

i've downloaded the patch days ago.

How does it rank in quality compared to the previous 3 games?

I'd love it for BB to review well, and I'm as excited as anyone for the game's release, but I don't think it's a publication's job to put someone on the review who they think will be predisposed to like the game, or even be good at it. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls both reviewed well and they were first round goes for almost all the reviewers. Part of the magic of the series is when you first start to think "this really is just too much for me"– then finally triumph. You don't have to be good, or be experienced with Souls games to enjoy that.

Miyazaki's philosophy was to make a game for people who like games, not just those who like Souls games. So as someone who really wants the game to review well, I also hope people don't damage the integrity of the fan-base by getting out pitchforks and torches and start accusing the press of being bad or not being experienced enough to enjoy the game, should they give a lower score than you hope for.

The fanbase could go REALLY WILD and just play the game and then return to the reviews to discuss what they agreed with and what they didn't agree with. That's just crazy talk, though.

I believe the functionality in the day 1 patch was made available to reviewers already. I don't know the specifics of what's in each patch because to be quite honest I've tried to remain as unspoiled as possible. But I do know the contents of what the dev/pub want reviewers to be able to play, and it's really important they get a chance to experience it.

There's a good reason for that. Bloodborne doesn't get a free pass just because it's been hyped to the moon. If it's disappointing then it's disappointing. How much you hype a game shouldn't affect that.

I'm really excited for this game and have it digitally pre-ordered. I really hope the constant sub-30 framerate isn't true, that would absolutely ruin this game for me. There's no reason for that shit on PS4 at this point in the game. I've loved all the previous Souls games, but Demon's was by far the jankiest experience due to its PS3 only availability and From's lack of belief in stable framerates.

Constantly sub-30 is not true. Its generally fine, but there are frequent dips here and there. There will also be less frequent moments when you'll whip the camera around too fast (ie you get under a boss for example) and then it really drops significantly.

My Pre-load downloaded a 29GB base game installer (5GB up front and then the remaining 24 GB downloaded in the background overnight) and then a 2.96GB Update.

I presume that is everything, right?

There's only one patch. Those who got the game early already downloaded it. Servers are just not live until the game launches. One reviewer stated they will post a review in progress at 10pm est. He said it will not be a full review because there is no online functionality at the moment. So no one has online atm, not even the reviewers.

Even if it's not true that embargo = bad, it's good that people are starting to wise up to that kind of thing. At worst it leads to less pre-orders.

Anyone else order from Amazon? Thought they provide release day delivery for prime members and my in scheduled to arrive on wensday. Anyone else got this from their tracking?

What the fuck ? How can people complain about framerate when the game has been out in the wild for a while now and no one complained about framerate ? Guys who were streaming actually praised the framerate. It doesn't make any sense.

Right, but I don't think a review embargo by itself is any reason to be worried. Review embargo + other shitty signs = a reason to be worried. I don't think some people realize that every major game review has an embargo.

That's everything they've released so far. On the server side of things, they still haven't enabled multiplayer for non-press members.

It could possibly be different sensitivity to framerate or maybe some are coming off the PC version of Dark Souls 1 and 2 and so on.

Sounds more like one guy (Gibbo) saying he "feels like" it is less than 30. We have no real data and nobody else is complaining.

I opened up this thread to ask a question on embargo and I see this post. Thank you for the information. But my followup is, how will the magazines and websites review the day 1 patch if the reviews are supposed to hit around tonight?

Its a matter of perspective- I played DS2, so this is definitely waaaay better than that framerate-wise. But there definitely are drops, and if you're new to the series I can see that being jarring, especially those times when it really chugs.
