I'm buying Bloodborne basically blind with barely seeing any media. Ever done this?

I think for the first time ever, I'm buying a video game solely off GAF hype. I think I've only seen one trailer for Bloodbourne, yet I'm intrigued enough to just say "Fuck it, Day 1!"

Anyone else do anything similar?

Nope. It sucks but when i see a really interesting looking game i need to dig deep and find what its all about. One thing will lead to another in order to satiate my growing hunger for whatever game it is.

I haven't even watched a trailer, at least not in full. Just webms/gifs from overexcited people who feel the need to post every instant of every trailer in every thread.

I've popped into a thread once or twice but for the most part I don't really want to know anything. I'm glad a Monster Hunter game came out recently because it's making it very easy to ignore Bloodborne until release.

I did that for Destiny. Although I did get some fun out of it, never again following the GAF hype for such an expensive game.

I imported Demon's Souls from Japan on the week of its launch (February 2009) with minimal details having not heard of it before.

It was the best game of last generation.

I'm trying so hard to do this for Bloodborne.

I still spoiled myself on everything up to the first boss.

I end up doing that for games that I don't really care about enough to keep up with pre release, that I end up deciding to buy sometime after release.

Most certainly! I remember buying Darksiders on a whim and not having seen one trailer for it.

I remember I tried doing it for Dark Souls as well, but I might be wrong.

And yeah before the internet I did this all the time lol.

Trying to

But they keep going out of their way to push media from the game all over the damn place

lol Seriously like they are dropping content for this game everywhere

I would never blindly buy something based off of GAF hype. Back in the day we used box art to decide, these days google and youtube.

I did that for Dark Souls II after learning my lesson from Dark Souls I. I watched a good portion of a Let's Play before buying DS1 and really regretted it. I robbed myself of the experience of seeing those amazing areas for the first time. Never again!

Why would I buy a game based on honeymoon impressions and cringe worthy hype?

Last time I did that I bought lords of shadows 2 and I got burnt for it.

You better not complain if you won't like it! ;)

Same here. I know zip. Watched my first trailer last night. I might wait till next pay but I think I'm going to go ahead and get it. If it turns out to be some incredible game, my lack of exposure to it will only make it better.

I purchased GTAIV without ever seeing gameplay.

Biggest... Mistake... Ever...

I know very little about the game also as I have been on a media blackout....and I am day one too!

I've sunk more hours into Demon Souls/Dark Souls 1/2 than I would ever admit.

Yes, I just did it a couple days ago. Bought Far Cry 4 and know pretty much nothing about it. Haven't played any of the games since Far Cry 1 like 10 years ago.

It was only $10 but still

I'm on a blackout for Bloodborne. With most games I'll limit what I view before release, so it's only official promotions and reviews so I can avoid stuff that I should experience for myself.

With Bloodborne it's been completely blind for a while now other than a few ifs that I couldn't help seeing. I would like to do this more often and I think I might with the upcoming Zelda game.

With the amount of overhyped games that end up being huge disappointments, I sa you're a brave fellow, but Bloodborne is a safe bet.

I did it for Dark Souls 2 because I ended up really enjoying the first Dark Souls.

Didn't end up liking DS2 nearly as much unfortunately. :(
I tell myself all the time to never preorder anymore, but every once in a while I figure it's safe enough that as long as there's a good discount it will be worth it.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

I do it all the time, but I don't fall into other peoples hype, I can't because I don't enter threads about the game either. Complete blackout.

I'm hyped for Bloodborne because I fucking love the Souls series.

I generally don't watch trailers for a game I know I'll be definitely buying.

I'll try to glance at non-spoiler reviews though, to make sure it's not a turd before I buy it.

I did this just last week with Ori & the Blind Forest.

It was money well spent. One of the most memorable experiences I've had in over 30 years.

I do it all the time for most other games.

For Bloodborne... not so much.
I've watched plenty of vids, read lots of interviews with Miyazaki and I played in the Alpha.
My media blackout was like staring into the sun and the blindness was worth it.

Currently on media blackout concerning Bloodborne, best thing to do. First playthrough will be offline as well. The last game I remember buying completely blind was Ring of Red on PS2.

You are not alone! I watched this interactive video where you get a free ps4 theme afterwards and decided I need this game. This atmosphere is amazing.

I never played any Souls game and I am really aware that it will be very difficult, nothing else I am used to yet. But I think it is time for a game where you really need to master the way you play and control your character.

Oh yeah, I need to buy a PS4 for that :P
