First The 90's Arcade Racer gameplay

JsLqq23.jpg

They used the holo-shark from BTTF2!

Also, that Virtua Racing big-forest knockoff is great

Saw that. Was just watching with my wife and was like "Holy shit, it's the BTTF shark!"

Some surprisingly awesome track designs.

Two years since it was funded though? Jeez. I can't imagine the 16k pounds they got lasted them long.

I can't help hoping the devs unintentionally make it easy to replace the audio files so can I throw in the Daytona USA 2 music and announcer.

Incredible work, especially taking into account that they're using the Unity engine. Feels a bit slow. I'm looking forward to seeing an updated build down the road.

This too, I'd love to plug in the R4 soundtrack, maybe even the original Need For Speed 3D0 music too.

Oh I though this was gonna be more Daytona than Outrun. Looks nice.
Seems like it needs still a bit of work before being done.
Also too much smoke.

Loved the "retro tracks" =D

Awesome art design on the tracks ... but the turns looks a little open compared to Daytona.

That video just gave me some good ol' Daytona/Sega Arcade racing vibes. Both in style and the way handling seems to work very much encompasses arcade racers from that era.

Man, I was already excited for Drift Stage, but hearing about this and seeing footage has me pumped way more. I need a new one of these games in my life.

Drifting doesn't look very compelling and sounds awful to me.

That could be what feels wrong about the drifting.

Not too impressed by this. It looks slow, the track is mostly straight and boring and the handling looks too stable and controlled. It looks the part on the surface, but I'll be truly surprised if they're able to pull off the nuanced car handling of the games they want to emulate. And for Christ's sake, change that stupid name.

Ever since they announced this game i wanted to know more...

The game looks amazing, reminds me of the good ol days of Sega games and Dreamcast. Looks like a mix of Daytona and Super GT.

More games like these should come out, i miss the simplicity of these games. Just racing and beating times.

I love it, I hope it plays as well a its predecessors. This would be absolutely perfect on Vita (I have really fond memories of Ridge Racer on PSP), but Wii U works too.

Good to see an update just as I was wondering about the status of the game. It looks great! It has that old school racer feeling of the road moving under your car, rather than your car being on the road. That's not something I particularly care for, but it looks great nonetheless.

I would have loved to compose a 90s style dance music track for this game. I feel like it's the only thing it needs to get that authentic feel.

Terrible quality vid, but the art style is awesome. However, the "turning on a popsicle stick" driving is kind of a turnoff. I'm guessing that was a throwback design decision...?

Have you a played an actual 90s arcade racer? That's part of the genre known as "Arcade Racer."

Now this I like! It's like a spiritual successor to Daytona USA. They definitely studied their Sega arcade racers when making this.

Wow, they really nailed the classic Blue Skies Sega look. I look forward to playing this in 20 or so years. (Or whenever Nicalis decides to release it.)

Nicalis asked about Playstation interest for the games a while back so it's confirmed for those platform more-or-less.

Looks fine but I think Drift Stage is more my bag right now. I was hoping it'd look more like Daytona's speed, but then again it is early footage.

suddenly this is '90s daytona-versus-ridge racer all over again

Yeah you're right. And yes I've played a ton of racers from that era, most of them in fact. But a lot of modern era ones as well. After playing the latter for so long its kind of easy to forget the style of the old games. I don't know why that little detail jumped out at me when I watched this vid this morning, I guess its the fact I was still waking up. That's the excuse I'm going with, anyway.

Looks amazing!

The video makes we wish this were more than a love-letter to Sega racers though. I would love to see some tracks in the style of San Francisco Rush and Hard Drivin'.

It looks really great. I still remember the day I pledged for this game, I was really young back then. I was hopeful and full of life. And then Nicalis was announced as a publisher for this ...

This looks great but there was an article on Nintendo Life ages ago about how this may be US only.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/02/nicalis_wed_like_to_support_europe_but_nintendo_doesnt_make_the_process_easy

I don't know about this, there are a lot of pledges from Europe on the kickstarter, I hope Nicalis won't try to scam us.

Definetly looks good, OST is pretty weak, but aside from that I'm pretty much sold.

There's so few arcade racers these days. After Drift Stage demo I need more.

Thumbs up for excellent taste.
