iOS Gaming Dec/Jan: GET

The locked app situation in The World Ends With You is pretty scummy (can't run the iPhone version on iPad), but for what it's worth the iPhone version of Final Fantasy Tactics runs on iPads and it scales very nicely. neoism, since you already have FFT on iPhone try it on the iPad with the fullscreen button, there's no reason to double dip imo.
Wow man thanks lol it works :/ it does look pretty good but still would like the HD version does that completely feel the screen? Shame they wouldn't at least charge something like 3.99 or something smaller to upgrade! Got my save to so at least I don't have to start all over. Almost forgot the game had iCloud support.

Haha, I picked it up on my WiiU (right before the sale, damn it!) and yep yep yep. Some things are definitely better on console, some on mobile. DPAD games belong on console for me!

With Icebreaker being one of the best puzzle games on IOS, always hyped for a new Nitrome game!

And yeah, Shovel Knight is fantastic. You're going to love Rex Rocket. Similar level of challenge and polish, in a sci-fi Metroidvania package

Rex Rocket does look good. Didn't know it was going to be iPad only, which makes me all the more appreciative that I have one.

JCho, did you get your Mini yet?

It's been said before, but seriously the Mini is the perfect size for gaming. I feel like a regular iPad would just be too big to hold comfortably for shooters and platformers.

I'm finally playing World of Goo. Well I've played it before, but now I can really experience it properly on the bigger screen. Easily tied with Icebreaker as one of the best physics-based puzzle games on IOS. The diverse challenges that the game crafts from a simple concept of building structures is just astounding. And it controls flawlessly with a touchscreen.

I held off on Icebreaker due to complaints about ads. Ads in a paid game are a no go for me, but since everyone here seems to like it, I gotta ask: how bad are they?

Gunbrick is fantastic! Such a simple premise used masterfully. Nice change of pace to have a new platformer that concentrates on thinking things through rather than how fast you can dash through levels. Last time I felt this excited about a puzzle platformer was probably Penumbear.

Tried out Tap Titans after hearing about it in this thread. Yeah... played a good bit of it, but I can't say I'm a fan.

Tap Titans goes all the way down the freemium rabbit hole. It discards all but a thin veneer of story and gameplay in favor of a pure feedback loop of numbers getting ever higher. As your numbers get higher, so do the "enemy" numbers. Luckily, you can increase your numbers by accumulating and then spending yet another number. These numbers all constantly increase at ever greater rates, but don't really ultimately mean anything. It's just--the "enemy" number has increased by a factor of ten, now you need to accumulate currency and increase your number by a factor of ten. This is made even more blatant by the way the numbers work--you go from K for thousands to M, B, and T, and then they just drop all pretense that the numbers mean anything and go to aa, bb, cc, etc. I mean, how many orders of magnitude even is that? It was around the cc mark that it really hit me just how much I was like a rat pushing a lever over and over (and over) again. This actually made me uncomfortably self-reflective about the whole idea of playing video games at all. And it was hard to stop!

But if the publisher can take advantage of my brain, so can I: I got frustrated enough when my main damage hero was killed to simply delete the app rather than waiting 10 hours for her to revive. And since I had already put in several hours, it pretty much guarantees that I won't ever want to start again because I would have to replay content. "Content," ha.

(Hilariously, the game can't even claim to be original: it's almost identical in structure to the browser game Clicker Heroes, even to the "Prestige" mechanic.)
Once I hit level 80 and realized I needed some super rare currency to get relics and the final goal was to prestige and start again, there wasn't any point to continue.

At least Cookie Clicker has a actual sense of progression, as you acquire bigger and better buildings, from factories and mines to time machines
And Candy Box evolves into an ASCII RPG. Those are similar games on PC, so they're free not freemium

Yep, it's pretty great. Love the music, too'

Long time no see, Matt. I (well, my kids) got a PS4

Add me on PS4, Flunkie44.
Happy Wheels IOS is still alive. The last update was in December
http://www.totaljerkface.com/news_comments.tjf?nid=75

I just played the demo on the website and wtf, lol. Gotta have this on my phone.

Also, I finally finished a game of 80 Days. Took me 77 days. Not sure if I posted that here or not. But yeah, mobile GOTY fo sho. Everything was going actually pretty well until my master contracted cholera, then the pinch was on as I had to sprint across America with a scarce inventory and depleted funds. I caught a break and my Atlantic Ocean trip wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be and ended up getting there 3 days early. I did miss out on the opportunity of making a lonely horny wife cheat on her husband by pressing the wrong dialogue choice on accident though. 10/10

Yes, sci-fi metroidvanias are love.

And no, not yet. Been busy lately and haven't been able to game that much. Will be picking it up by the end of the month at the latest

Love Gunbrick, but I'm finding the beginning stages to be quite tedious. Mostly because it sticks to the same formula most games do in introducing new elements. I see the next thing coming a mile away, and I just want to move beyond it.

I'm just being an old curmudgeon, really. It's a beautiful and very clever little game. Highly recommend it!

Apple's new EU prices are on right now.

Sol Invictus is 0.99$ and 1.14€. Damn that's a huge increase over the usual 0.89€...

(0.99$ is 0.84€ in real life apple...)

Which game shall I play next on my iPhone 6 out of Baldur's Gate, Banner Saga, Final Fantasy VI, Valiant Hearts and XCOM (Enemy Within)?

I was considering either Banner Saga or Valiant Hearts as they're shorter so can tick them off my list.

I may be biased but I LOVE Banner Saga. It has the strategy and RPG gameplay but rocks an awesome story, great Nordic lore and atmosphere. Just my 2 cents and even with the other heavy hitters on your list would be my pick.

That really does suck. I don't understand the reasoning if the old price was actually less than the exchange rate. If the Euro was really down the crapper vs the dollar, that'd be different. But this?

Mind you, Sol Invictus' pricing might be a mistake. I've been talking with some EU folks and it seems like the normal pricing should be 0.99€ for 0.99$.
I certainly hope so.

Might need to check it out. Nice to see one of these type of games as a premium game. With as much money as I've been spending I may have to wait though. Would like if anyone has some impressions.

First impressions on TA are apparently stellar.
I'm too tired now and can't afford to spend the night playing (which I would do if I buy it now), but I'm not sure I'll be able to resist tomorrow.
Still seems too good to be true.

Haven't been paying attention that much this week, only know about Drop Wizard, Gunbrick, Space Marshall, and Sol Invictus, all of which interest me.

Bronxsta and awp, what are you buying this week?

I picked up Gunbrick and Space Marshall. Both great in their respective genres -- although Gunbrick gets an edge for some truly original gameplay.

Adding Gunbrick to my purchase list, the flash game was great but the mobile version looks to top it by far, especially with dat art.

Have you played Meltdown? If so compare it to Space Marshalls
