What is The DC Cinematic Universe?

JLUpromo.jpg
After decades of producing independent comic book movie franchises, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment will attempted to create a connected cinematic universe, not unlike their highly success animated universe, which spanned over a decade and several shows.
The universe kicked off in 2013 with the release of Man of Steel, and will expand in 2016 with the release of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. After that, there is at least 10 DC Comic films slated to be released over the next 6 years, and this thread will be used to discuss the coming and goings of this films.

What Is in The Works?

Then what are these films exactly? While we don’t have exact dates for all of these films (though we have exact dates for the years), this is the slate of unreleased movies in this DC Cinematic Universe:

  • Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice- March 25th, 2016
  • Suicide Squad – August 5th, 2016
  • Wonder Woman – 2017
  • Justice League: Part One – 2017
  • The Flash – 2018
  • Aquaman – 2018
  • Shazam – 2019
  • Justice League: Part Two – 2019
  • Cyborg – 2020
  • Green Lantern - 2020

Who Are Our Heroes?

We have all of these wonderful films announced, but who will be starring in them? Luckily, Warner has been kind enough to announce most of the major heroic roles for these films, and we’ll update this as more are announced.

Henry Cavill – Superman
(Films: Man of Steel, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League: Part One and Part Two)

Ben Affleck – Batman
(Films: Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League: Part One and Part Two)

Gal Gadot – Wonder Woman
(Films: Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Justice League: Part One and Part Two)

Ezra Miller – The Flash
(Films: The Flash, Justice League: Part One and Part Two)

Jason Momoa – Aquaman

Ray Fisher – Cyborg
(Films: Cyborg, Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League: Part One and Part Two)

Who Are Our Villains?
You can’t have good without evil so DC is busy filling their world with some villains. We don’t have as much information on their current crop, but here is what we do know!

Michael Shannon – General Zod
(Films: Man of Steel)

Jesse Eisenberg – Lex Luthor
(Films: Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice)

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – Black Adam
(Films: Shazam)

Who Are Our Anti-Heroes?
The Suicide Squad neither fully good nor fully evil are starring in their own film.
Jared Leto - The Joker
Films: Suicide Squad

Will Smith - Deadshot (Floyd Layton)
Films: Suicide Squad

Margot Robbie - Harley Quinn
Films: Suicide Squad

Jai Courtney - Captain Boomerang
Films: Suicide Squad

Cara Develinge - Enchantress
Films: Suicide Squad

Joel Kinnaman - Rick Flagg
Films: Suicide Squad

Viola Davis - Amanda Waller
Suicide Squad

Who Is In Charge of This Whole Party?

While DC doesn’t seem to have a singular point person like Marvel does with Kevin Feige, there does seem to be a creative brain trust at the helm of the project.

Zack Snyder – While not the official architect of the universe, he will be responsible for directing 4 of the most marquee films in their line-up with his work on 2013’s Man of Steel kicking off the series, he will follow that up with 2016’s Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017 and 2019’s Justice League: Part One and Part Two, respectively.

David Ayer – Writer/director of the 2016 Suicide Squad film

Patsy Jenkins - Has been confirmed to be directing the Wonder Woman film set to be released in 2017.

Chris Terrio – Seemingly coming along with the casting of Ben Affleck, Terrio has taken over writing duties for DC’s major films with his first being Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and intentions to write Justice League: Part One and Two.

Geoff Johns – While he is more hands on with the TV-side of DC Entertainment, he will still help to bridge the gap between the Hollywood types and DC Comics branch.

The Speculation
The place for all that talk that isn’t quite confirmed yet!

-Warner Bros/DC Comics looking at Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Margot Robbie to headline the Suicide Squad film.

-Jesse Eisenberg to Appear in Suicide Squad as Lex Luthor?

-DCE Seeking Female Directors for Wonder Woman

-Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice Teaser Due Before Year’s End?

-Batman v Superman news will still mostly be discussed in its own thread
-New Thread for New News. This is more of a catch-all and rumor thread.

In before "grimdark", "no jokes allowed", the use of gender equality as fuel for fan wars, and "dc only has batman".

Otherwise nicely done OT.

Nice OT

The hype train(wreck) is moving full speed ahead

Also I think we'll see Ezra Miller in Batman v Superman. Ray Fisher said he met him on set.

I want these movies to be good, I really do. superman is my favorite even tho he isn't too 'popular' anymore and I get more out of the disney/marvel stuff.

What I would do for a superman movie with the charm of chris reeve supes and the action of MoS with a better script.

Which is why I'm glad Goyer is off and Terrio is rewriting it.

I like Zack Snyder though, given the right script I think he can do amazing things.

what you ask for is too perfect

I want the same thing

Now this thread seems like a perfect place to ask everyone their opinion on my fantasy characters to see in future installments and respective casting.

Charles Dance as Ares

Ryan Gosling as Steve Trevor

Nicolas Cage as Bizzaro

On a scale from George Clooney Batman to Christian Bale Batman, how great/terrible are these casting idea? What characters do you want to see?

Even though MoS is overly depressing toward the end, I think we'll have a superman that everyone knows and loves by the time BvS ends. If not its Justice Lords time.

Some nice casting choices, I feel like nick cage should be a part of these movies somehow (thought not in any major role). His fandom for superman is so crazy. I'm interested in seeing casting choices for Dan Turpin, Olsen, Shazam (wizard and hero), Sivana, Darkseid, fuckin' Orion, and Mera.

I watched Green Lantern a while back and got the impression that Amanda Waller was in the movie to serve a similar role as Nick Fury in the Marvel films.

Was that true and this is their second attempt after GL flopped or am I reading to much into the character's appearance in the film?

I always thought it was that purpose as well.

Instead of recruiting heroes, she would recruit villains or form a group like Checkmate to oppose their rise

Error

Jealous of the Glory that is Johnny Depp
That's interesting about Lex on Suicide Squad, maybe one of their mission is to investigate Lex and that's when Waller gets to know about Lex and Brainiac team up, leading to JL1.

I dunno who I would cast but they better make billy batson in the SHAZAM! movie a kid.

Billy being a kid is the problem with Shazam Movies.

You have to film them close together (Harry Potter).
Recast Billy every movie
Don't use Billy, just Shazam for all movies henceforth from the origin story.

Or just do what HIMYM did , film most of the scenes with the kids at the start and then you won't have a problem.

Yeah I'm not serious about that.

I wish I had good photoshop skills, I think a cool logo for this topic would be the Bat-signal projecting the GAF logo in the sky :)

Probably will be new 52 Billy, closer to 15-16 so he can at least be bros with cyborg to some degree (assuming it is linked). As for how they'll accomplish it, they could use the same actor with a Steve Roger type effect but not nearly as drastic a change (more use of makeup and camera tricks to pull this off) or film scenes with the actor as Billy then pump him up and film him as Shazam.

You're suckin the fun out of Shazam being a Man-child, but then again "No Jokes"

Guess you missed the whole topic about it. Not that it mattered. The usual clusterfuck, trainwreck and DC doesn't get it posts.

It's possible that I read it then just phased it out of my head.
We get those threads like every week it gets kinda dull.

He's more of a manchild in new 52 than he was pre nu52 really. Prenu52 he was pretty much pure boyscout.

Now he summons ping pong tables, plays video games and smashes people's cars. Some people hate this change, but it has made way him way more interesting and a deeper contrast to supes imo.

I'm not against two different actors but it introduces a whole lot of issues like other people have said. It's pretty amazing what people can do with makeup, I think if they get the right actor they could make him look more boyish or more masculine easily with makeup and clothing.

This is the place for rumors and heavy speculation, I won't link to the site... but apparently Cara Delevingne may be up for a role in Suicide Squad, some are speculating, Harley Quinn

https://www.google.com/search?q=Car...KPsQTp24HQAg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=891

And some are pointing to this as possible evidence?

Besides being a model where have I heard that name before?

Also, did she have to pick a Harley pic with the nipples detailed in that way? Lol

She doesn't have much of a resume, the only thing I could imagine is she provides a voice in GTA V

I'm still not sure how I feel about having Harley on the Squad. I just hope they keep her character origin tied to the Joker.

Welp, Warner certainly have their work cut out for them. Now I'm really curious to see if they'll release a teaser trailer for BvS with The Hobbit just to get the hype train going now - even if the film is still 16 months out. It wouldn't even have to be elaborate, just a logo with some dialogue over it and then a release date.

After reading some of the comments in the Marvel announcement threads, I'm convinced GAF believes Warner and DC are simply pants on head stupid

I mean, I didn't like Man of Steel either but c'mon

The worst place on GAF to mention WB/DC is in MCU threads, you won't find many neutral opinions in there. What you will find on occasion is an amusing lack of self-awareness. The same fans who were vehemently defending Marvel when everyone said movies like Thor, Captain America, and GotG would bomb terribly are now turning around and claiming DC's movies will surely bomb. Which is strange to me since the success of Arrow and the new Flash show are proof that there's an appetite for DC characters who aren't named Batman and Superman, just as long as they're treated properly.

It's a bummer that so many are hostile towards mentioning DC in the same sentence as Marvel these days, it makes discussing all of these comic book adaptions not nearly as fun as it could be. Heck I feel awkward just mentioning that I think X2 and DoFP are better films than any of the MCU stuff for fear that I'll be ganged up on.

Well they're not necessarily wrong. They turned an absolutely no name comic series in the Guardians of the Galaxy into a massive hit both critically and at the box office.

DC has yet to actually make a good Superman movie.

I thought it was pretty good. >_>

Is there a thread for fans of both? A neutral thread where Marvel-GAF and DC-GAF can coexist in harmony. Where all we fight about is who in the MCU could beat MoS Superman.
