Probably

The ultimate way is if you get in sudden death and it suddenly stops lagging because the lagging guy isn't in it

You can cancel all landing lag on most of his aerials, bow on air, and airdodge to the ground by throwing a bomb right after using them. Pretty easy to do since all Link players should have a bomb in hand anyways.

Interesting, I seem to be unable to do any aerial normals with a bomb loaded. It just throws the bomb. I did notice that cancelling an aerial normal into pulling out the bomb makes Link get to the ground very quickly, and it also looks like there's less lag on recovery.

A Marth main introduced me to competitive Melee 4 years ago. He did it by wrecking me with Marth, then suggesting I counterpick with Shiek, then suggesting I start watching videos and learning to wavedash.

To this day I make it a point to do my absolute best against every Marth I face, even if the guys playing him are alright. It doesn't matter what game, I just hate Marth.
 
Been playing a lot of online the past few days, but now I'm getting back to the challenges. Went for the one where you have to clear 10-Man Smash within 20 seconds, but I kept landing at 21. Then I finally did it in 17 with Zero Suit Samus. Feels good man.

On a side note, has anyone gotten a Global Smash Power of over 1 million yet?
 
As a complete newcomer, I decided I should try to practice with mario first as he is the beginner character in every game he's ever appeared in. After a few hours practice, I'm able to beat lvl 5 bots pretty consistently now by building up damage with up-tilt/up-smash/up-special/down-throw 'combos' (spam) and finishing with forward-smash.

Now, here's a question I was hoping I could get some help with: People say Mario's cape can be used for recovery, but I can't tell how that move would be of any use for that. As far as I can tell it halts your momentum but gives no real added vertical or horizontal reach. What am I missing here? Thanks!

I haven't played randoms a lot, but I can see doing that, sure. Maybe I just don't want to play one person over and over, maybe I'm playing online cause I want to play a lot of different people one after the other. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Makes me wonder if I came off that way to others when I've wrecked people before. Truth is, I wasn't looking down on them at all. I just figured they were still learning a character's rhythm or how to play the game. No big deal. Hopefully they thought the same when I've been wrecked myself.

It's best to give people the benefit of the doubt when they destroy you. They might taunt, but that doesn't mean it's mean-spirited. :-)

I think, and I might be wrong here, that your global smash power shows you comparatively how much better you are than x amount of people.

example: If I had a Global Smash Power in classic mode of 928,645, that means that my score is better than 928,645 users.

it's explained in the April Direct at 12:20
 
So you basically are gonna want a Global Smash Power of about 3 million right now, otherwise you're bad and you should feel awful about it.

Thanks Sakurai, now I don't have to see all the people better than me on the leaderboard. I can just know it's most everyone.
