As long as there's a persistent walk off somewhere, somebody's gonna go up there and stand, waiting for you to walk over so they can throw you backwards. They might get killed for trying, but it still devolves the game into something less.

But why wouldn't you ban that camp instead? The fact matches are timed means that strategy doesn't even work. Your opponent could just NOT go.

I mean, I'm a tournament player and that had never ever been a problem before. If you can ban laser locks you can ban edge camping, especially on a stage where that option is extremely limited.

WOW that online lag is real.

Did two free for all For Fun mode matches, and it was definitely a horrible laggy experience. Didn't have these issues when playing the JP version a few weeks ago.

And the people I played with were no better, two Duck Hunts and a Jiggs, the former spammed disc and kick-the-can and the Jiggs spammed roll out and rest.

Are moving stages generally banned? Some of Dreamland's phases would be excellent For Glory fields.

This game needs more platforms. I recognize that and I don't even like platforms.

Friends lobby need a chatroom, it would be much easier.
Yeah. It's pretty disappointing that a mic is built in, yet we can't chat with friends. Nintendo likes to talk about how it's more fun playing in the same room together (and they're right), but having voice chat would go a long way towards making online closer. Maybe the 3DS can't handle the bandwidth or something.

It's also frustrating that I can't see someone online in Smash and tell them I want to play. I see them online, I'm online, neither of us doing anything... but unless I call them or contact them on another device, there is no way to catch their attention.

It's no less limited than on any other stage though. They're there and prominent, and the stage is small enough that you're always fairly close to the ledges with walk offs.

Though I think Gaur Plains has bigger issues in regards to the sizes of the other platforms. Fighting only ever seems to take place on the top because it gets crowded really fast on the bottom platforms.

I really enjoy playing items and stage gimmicks but the people I've played in For Fun have been pretty awful. One Charizard used nothing but flare blitz the entire time, a Sonic just spammed neutral B... that stuff. But a Dedede just did his crouch the entire match one time. That was pretty hilarious.

It's much harder to enforce something like that. Where do you draw the line between luring them to the edge, edge guarding, and then edge camping?

And if they get a lead, the timer means that they don't ever need to approach.

so,... I got a 10 minute ban yesterday because I abandoned a fucking lagfest match.

feels bad, man.
That happened to me once too. No big deal or anything. It's cute that there's something to keep people from disconnecting, but it doesn't take long to just jump off a couple times anyway.

Though if you're in a timed match.... :(

Marth.

I think part of the problem is that I have this suicidal desire to approach Ike as he's charging moves. I keep thinking I should hit him before he does it, even though standing clear and whacking him after would make more sense.

Basically, the primary problem is that I'm an idiot.

You've taken the first step by addressing the problem, which is good. The thing to keep in mind when fighting Ike is that his moves have incredible range. You can eat a lot of damage by getting hit by well spaced Forward Tilts/F-air. You should play in a manner that avoids those moves, while still throwing out your own forward tilts/f-air's to rack up damage. Marth is exceptional at midrange, and he should be soundly beating out Ike at mid range due to his faster speed/equally solid range. A good deal of Ike's moves are horrendously slow. Slow in start up and slow on recovery, so he's susceptible to being punished (if you're too far away to punish with a tilt, a dash grab should suffice).

Secondly, Ike's recovery is linear—exploitable. You should be able to heavily damage him with spaced F-air if he's using his recovery specials (remember to avoid Aether range), and even KO him if he's at a high %. I know it might harder in practice to KO him while he's offstage, but that's arguably your method of KO (outside of landing a lucky tipper forward fsmash). Finally, it's worth noting that Ike's mobility is really poor; he has a subpar run speed and his air mobility is poor. Marth on the other hand, has good mobility and is nimble in the air. You should be able to make Ike come to you and punish him for recklessly pressing buttons.

Basically, Ike relies on the opponent making mistakes to win. If you play defensively and safe, you should do significantly better in that particular matchup.

Bahahah dude wtf happened that amazingly bad. Your Ness seemed awesome though! Ya know...in the pictures.

lmao thanks man

Yeah, the connection's all over the place. I get error messages, then I suddenly enter a match without problems, and then suddenly a slideshow. I hate my university, lmao

Anyone else bothered by All-Star mode's replacement of the usual Superstar music with a chilled-out Smash 4 theme?

As much as I like the Smash 4 theme, Brawl and its successor have been way too insistent on saturating every corner of the game with their leitmotifs. Thankfully, the Smash 4 theme is so much more listenable than the droll Brawl one.

I can have a really steady connection if texts aren't being sent back and forth like crazy or if my daughter isn't loading a video on the iPad. Besides that though I have a pretty good connection.

Online isn't perfect but it's completely playable and a good way to get better for real like battles.

Try living at a university where the online connection is notoriously bad, lol.

I'm sure it's okay on it's own, I'll probably just head home this weekend for some smoother connections.

It's a stretch to call it the "usual" Super Star music when only Melee did that, and that's over ten years behind us now... but I do agree. I love that Smash 4's theme is much less grating to hear on repeat, but I wish they'd have made some unique themes too.

It's awful that there's no platforms in for glory. At least let me have Battlefield. It'd destroy a lot of the Little Mac game.

I'm not one to bitch and moan about competitive elements of the game, but this is a huge dropped ball. Omega Levels are more of a curse than a blessing. Removing platforms from for glory aside, they also allowed the team to go overboard with stage gimmicks in the non-omega versions.

Man that Circle Pad debate from the previous page was obnoxious. I sometimes get side B instead of up B when hitting up-right/left, and I do feel the Circle Pad is less than ideal. It's user error, but much like other fighting games, I'd make errors too on a control scheme not suited for me (like some people can play Marvel 3 with a 360 pad, I need a PS3 or an arcade stick). It doesn't mean I'm not used to it, it just doesn't suit the twitch play of how I play.

Awful Little Macs maybe. ;p
Seriously though... I dunno I feel like the platforms also benefit Little Mac on Battlefield since I can jump around to avoid projectiles easier, hit people through platforms with up smash, and the stage is still small enough that I can abuse my ground game.
Like I'd rather much fight Rosalina on Battlefield than any FD as Mac. It gives me a non linear approach method (jumping on platforms). FD is more predictable.

Oh. Somehow I repressed the details of Brawl's All-Star mode and invented an ideal unreality. The wonders of the human psyche!

That Superstar theme was perfect. Why fix what's not broken?

In Brawl and Melee I used to use side B instead of up B all the time. Despite a regular control stick being more comfortable I've always had that issue no matter the controller.

god jungles japes is the worst

actually that stage is the most beautiful thing in the world

i could watch cranky kong's silhouette for hours...

We'll hear it again.....in the Great Cave Offensive stage.

Yes. Yes yes yes. I'm only barely competitive but the need for counterpicks is apparent with masters of neutral like Mac.

god jungles japes is the worst

can't take the japes, get out the jungle
