The times it would take up using certain formats are listed below. The time shown is the amount it takes is if you were to partake in all matches, so it mostly affects the top 3 (for double elimination):
95 minutes (1 hour 35 min): 8 players only, double elimination, best of 3
110 minutes (1 hour 50 min): 16 players only, double elimination, best of 3
95 minutes (1 hour 35 min): 32 players only, single elimination, best of 3

All of them will be 1v1 / 2 stocks / 5 min / no items.

And stages would be whatever is popular with tournaments (Battlefield, Final Destination, Yoshi's Island, & Lumiose City so far).

Thing to note, ! forgot about doing best of 5 for winners final, losers final, and grand finals when calculating the time and was too lazy to to redo it lol. The most it would add is probably 50 min assuming that the loser reset the bracket. Best of 5 would be the format used for those rounds, unless the players agree to go with a best of 3 format due to time or something. And all of the times shown are just time estimates and can be off in either direction.

With the 8 player ruleset, I was thinking we can have multiple small tournaments and use it for seeding or something to place players with people with similar records together. Could be like a mini-league of some sort.

Also would like to have EU, JP, and NA players separate unless lag isn't as much of an issue.

Suggest your own format (number of players, single or double elimination, or best of #) if you want. And leave some feedback or something.

Also, it would be easier if people signed up for Challonge and use its tools.

Shofu isn't that great of a player to begin with. The only reason you should be watching him is for his reactions and how funny he tends to be. I mean, sometimes he has good gameplay but not all the time.
 
Why did Falco get a new voice and yet most of the characters still have their Brawl voice samples being recycled? I was hoping for new ones :(

(Not necessarily new voices, new samples....some could use new voices....like Bowser...)

The Star Fox crew had a VA change between Brawl and SSB4 (or more that SF643DS reverted back to the original voice cast) while a lot of other characters like Meta Knight/Ike/Marth who either don't show up in games still or simply don't have new VA's made more sense to recycle stuff for.

Bowser/DK/Diddy still having generic animal grunts is dumb as all get out though.

I think this sounds like a great idea! Sunday works pretty well for me most weeks, so I'd love to play regularly. We'll also have voice chat up and running by next week if you want to incorporate that.

Oh that's cool. So are Fox and Falco using their SF64 voice actors? Were they using Assault voice actors in Brawl?

Yeah that's the main reason haha. He and the Japan Time crew are cool but he's ok. He has gotten better since it came out in Japan so that's something.

Pretty sure they were, yeah. In Melee they used the Japanese VA's for both versions, though the English easter egg bits were done by their VA's in Star Fox Adventures. In other words, Slippy and Peppy Hare were voiced by Conker.
 
Gaf, how bad is the lag between US and Asia is? I'm on South America but I wanted to play badly with US people lol

I'd be down. Sunday is good for me and the formats seem fine as well.

edit: Not sure if this is a good idea, but how do you feel about having multiple eight man tournaments running simultaneously with the winners of each facing each other afterward if there's 16/32 players?

I would absolutely be down for this! Seeing as I'm living in Japan, though, I'm perpetually 13-14 hours ahead of EST, meaning that scheduling could be difficult. If it takes place around 5-7 PM EST, I could probably participate since I don't leave for work until a little after 9 AM JST. :D
 
Adding y'all's friend codes is so tedious. You would think Nintendo could have devised an easier solution to mass friend adds.
 
My local gamestop doesn't know if they're doing a midnight release yet it's on the website... :(

Campus has a Smash Bros. group and I checked it out for a bit. Tried out Project M for the first time and won a match with Yoshi. Sounds like there will be 3DS players in the coming days. Feels quite nice.

Well, they have that community feature in Mario Kart 7/8 which was really useful since you could just make a GAF room.

I would probably enter. Should be fun. I think more than 32 people would want in, at least in the first few weeks. If there are a lot of entrants maybe do separate tournaments at different times/days.
 
I think one of my bigger problems with this game isn't that shields are too effective, but that there's not enough drawback to using them. They regenerate so quickly that it makes the match just last longer overall, and I don't like that. They need to have more of a drawback to them. It's really starting to wear on me and is making the gameplay feel more boring and tedious. I get to shield stabbing percent, only to have them be back at almost full shields a second later. That's just boring and makes the match lose a sense of progress to it.

I feel that way, but I only have the demo and play against AI. Maybe it is less of a problem in other situations.

Where is this from? As in, the screen. The Smash chest looks familiar for some reason, too, even thought the 3DS' chests are all from Uprising (Makes sense, since Mimicuties are among the game's mooks).

Thankfully, Lucina's reveal already killed the hopes of getting my old boy back. I still want Roy DLC intensely, but Roy's the best Koopaling anyway. It'll be alright.
