Whazzat? What's wrong with X/Y?

The campaign. It's the best multiplayer in the series, but 90% of the reason I play Pokemon is the campaign, and I just didn't like it at all. So easy no matter what you do, and nothing really remarkable about it. I was really dissappointed with it.

Can I ask where all this sudden disappointment arises from?

People playing the game for the past two weeks are starting to get bored with it somewhat, due to the lack of content.
Also, this game gives Destiny a run for the money in the contest to have the worst grinding mechanics this month.

Pokemon X/Y is the most recent game on that list and you didn't even bother challenging it lmao

I actually havent really played it although I got it at home...but maybe because I'm 25 now and dont really feel like Pokemon anymore...

3D Land was actually loads of fun if you ask me and Mario Kart 7 was very good

I guess Sticker Star was something else, but I wouldnt call Sticker Star a AAA-title...

They made it easier for the competitive scene to blow through the campaign & compete, hence the added emphasis on multiplayer.

I'd rather not start anything because the vibe is good here, but some pros & fans have shown some distaste for the game. I don't want to point where because we went through that convo earlier today, but it's online.

Regardless, i'm excited!

The demo hyped me up and when I got the email this morning that my copy went into delivery hype rose even higher... but tastes are different.

I agree, but why? It doesn't cut down the time to get to the multiplayer by much, it just makes it easier and less remarkable. Instead of an enjoyable ride before the multiplayer, its a dull drag.

Ehhh, fair enough.

You guys do know that when you refer to "abundant single player" in a Pokemon game, you're mostly referring to the third version right?

My favorites are FRLG, Emerald, and BW. Only one of those is a third version.
Plus Z would need major, major changes to salvage X and Y's problems.

When the game came out in Japan:

- Guys. This game is awesome. Can't wait for you all to play!!!

Right before the game comes out in the US:

- Smash 4 sucks. Don't buy it. IAmSoMadAtSakurai.jpg

we're almost there! see you all online soon!

This will be the Smash-Cycle since Brawl.

While I enjoy the games. <3

Yup, but it's all good. Different strokes for different folks!

Here's my friend code for you guys. PM me when you've added me so I can add yall back:

Seems like the same troll Shit like back then with brawl. Just enjoy the game for what it is. People getting themselves dehyped cause of pro players shouldn't game at all. This is the first smash for a handheld so keep your frets on the ground.

It's by far my least favorite 3D Mario, and Mario Kart 7 was incredibly light on content and failed to fix issues I had with previous entries. Really didn't like either of them.
MK7 is the first Mario Kart I genuinely liked after Double Dash!!* personally ruined the series for me. Items weren't as out of whack, presentation and music was great, really neat tracks and I liked the gimmicks in it for the most part. Character roster was terrible but other than that it's why I was even anticipating MK8's unveiling at E3 2013.

*Ironically the one thing I really liked about the game (2-per-1 karts) is the only thing the rest of the series ignored while the completely out of whack item balance, weak music after MK64's catchy jazz and overall 'slowness' stayed for quite awhile.

Sah, do you own the jp version? If so, what's your thoughts on the game?

History does tend to repeat itself.

I'll see you online though. Better watch out for my Duck Hunt!

Amen.

I'm a little bit disappointed, but I'm still pre-ordering. It's just not going to be as good a game as I'd hoped, content-wise. It still seems like a good enough engine, and the characters look fun enough that I can justify owning a portable Smash. Here's hoping beyond hope that the Wii U version has an amazing level of single-player content. Smash Wii U needs to have

More challenges than ever - perhaps 480, four panels, one for the four main Smash characters (Mario, Link, Pikachu, and Kirby)
Event Mode w/ co-op (but make it GOOD, not like Brawl - I want some really awesome and creative events!)
Adventure Mode - Straight up return to Melee's style, but on a grand scale
Target Test, w/ 51 stages
(optional) Board the Platforms, w/ 51 stages
(optional) Battlefield Mode
(optional) Characters unlocked through linking the 3DS and Wii U versions (though it'd be pretty annoying :v maybe it would be a bonus at the time for those who owned both versions, and single-version owners could buy them as DLC?)

I don't think it's fair to dismiss all complaints because it's on a handheld. There's legitimate issues with the game, and I'm starting to feel that being on a handheld will be the only reason to come back to it once the Wii U version is out. The unique draw isn't really there for me, it doesn't have satisfying single player content, there's a lot of missing multiplayer components, and the stage roster is terrible. The core combat, easily the most important thing in this type of game, is fantastic-but it's also going to be on the Wii U version. So I just kind of wish the game had something else to give me a reason to return to it once the Wii U version is out, but I just haven't discovered anything worth doing that for.

I can definitely go with this. It'd be a plus for fans who bought both versions, but for those who are sticking to one version only, they can still enjoy the DLC characters for a small fee.

Good thing I don't care about opinion of "pros". Still, I could swear I red they were mostly positive about the game.

This would be so stupid. Even though I have both a 3DS and a Wii U, I don't want it to happen.

You are literally the first GAF member to mirror my own thoughts on Double Dash in the seven years I've been on this site. Most people who mention that game call it the best in the series and I just can't help but feel all

Mario Kart 8 though is completely and thoroughly legit but this is a Smash thread so I'll end it there.

I don't really feel the single player content of the 3DS version is a problem but I'm still interested in seeing how it will eventually get filled out with DLC

They were positive! It's just, you know, the negative bunch who are a bit more louder in expressing their opinion. Which is fine because everyone is entitled to one and they make sense for the most part because the game isn't perfect, but I just feel like the game seems pretty solid as a release. New things might be planned for DLC too so there's that.

But it's good you think this way. I feel like more fans should play the game in order to formulate their own opinion instead of taking these pros as if they're the gospel or something.

legs=sales after the launch period, and they have sucked at least in Japan

nothing subjective about that at least

To me, it just doesn't feel like Pokemon is in trouble sales wise or anything. At my university, basically everyone with a 3DS has Pokemon. I see people sitting down and playing X/Y all the time. Hard to imagine sales are falling...

I don't think single-player content is lacking. You guys are just too spoiled :p

Solo
Smash
Smash Run
Trophy Rush
685 trophies
400+ customs
Training
Home Run
Bomb Blast
Multi Man and all the variants
Various options and modes in Smash
Huge ass roster
33+ decent stages AND FD versions
All-Stars Mode
Online play and it's tons of modes
Replays
Music
Items
105+ "achievement" challenges
StreetPass

Yeah, game is damn light on content! /s

I didn't think Double Dash was bad, just not a classic in a series of classics.

Then again, I loved MK Wii (because I lived in a dorm where we all played it all the time) and everyone thinks that game is straight up garbage, so what do I know. Our enjoyment of things is so dependent on the context of our lives that arguing about it is borderline pointless.

I agree. Plus, it might be just me, but after one or two weeks I only really play multiplayer and Classic/All-Star mode, never touching any other mode again.
But it's good you think this way. I feel like more fans should play the game in order to formulate their own opinion instead of taking these pros as if they're the gospel or something.

Yeah, definitely. I find it kind of sad when someone dismiss a game in the series because tournament players said the game isn't good. I mean, even if they are right, a game not being good for tournaments isn't a bad game for other purposes. Brawl sucked competitively but I still played it far more than Melee, a game that is (supposedly) good for competitive purposes.

I can't fully hate a Mario Kart which let me play as motherfucking Funky Kong racing down a mountain on the Wario Bike while he screams incomprehensibly.

You forgot the Streetpass Smash Tin Pin Slammer Battle Extreme!

And Conquest Mode, whatever that is :p

Edit: Stealth edit. Damn it :p

Do you think we will have trailers for Duck Hunt and Bowser Jr?

I'm not sure - they couldn't serve the function of a 'reveal' due to their unlockable status, but it seems to be a priority for every newcomer to appear in at least one trailer, even for characters like Dark Pit, so they might be included in the Wii U version's intro or a reveal trailer for a DLC character.

But you don't even know if there will be more in the Wii U version. :) Just wait then or shell out 40$ for a good 50-100 hours of enjoyment. People should stop bitching (not you, your reasoning was fine). The game is cheaper on the handheld, it is to go for training. Just use it for what it is - a handheld game.

They would even be able to refund people who bought the DLC once they bought the other version. Do it, Sakurai

Good thing I don't care about opinion of "pros". Still, I could swear I red they were mostly positive about the game.

I don't see why this is stupid. Like, at all.

Someone who spends $100 on two versions of the same game (w/ pretty different content outside of engine and characters admittedly): They get a bonus
Someone who spends only $40 or $60 to get one version: they have to pay a little extra.

Sounds perfectly fair

In my hype for Smash 4, I've been desperately trying to play/finish up some Nintendo games.

Metroid Prime 2
Wind Waker HD (finished before)
Earthbound (been at the beginning forever)
Mario 3D Land (gold flags and Luigi)
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon
Xenoblade (sorry kitty)
Link Between Worlds (haven't started yet)

Hyrule Warriors came and ruined everything, and got me all hype on Zelda again, so I turned back on Wind Waker HD and I'm now to the wonderful Triforce hunt.

I really want to finally play ALBW, so should I just shut off WW for now and dig into that? I'm free the next few days so I've got time. Also, will my experience be better if I finish LTTP first which I regrettably never have and lost my data? Arg it's so hard to choose because I know when Smash comes out all my attention will go to it. I'd really like to really dig into Earthbound too.

Also, what games are YOU playing Gaf in Smash hype?

It needs very little to be better than the 3ds version :P. And I've already shelled out my $40. Well, not $40. $160 for a JP system and $60 for the game. Been playing it since launch. Already at 70 hours.
