Nintendo sure loves Isabelle

I don't believe you've ever played New Leaf... but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and ask what she did that was annoying.
Actually I have, but I'm sure assuming that makes it easier for you to discredit my opinion, so go for it.

In new leaf, you really aren't the mayor. She is. You make the decisions she allows you to, when she allows you to and where she allows you to. You don't actually have any control - you're the figurehead, she's the one in charge.

That's because she's a secret dominatrix.

I like Isabelle but I can't believe everyone is excusing the monstrosity that is Hipster Bowser.

Animal Crossing U should really give you more freedom as the mayor. The public works project feature is extremely inefficient in New Leaf. Why can't we just drag and drop the objects instead of asking Isabelle if the spot is good or not? That shit's tedious.

I was actually amazed how generic and lame all of the characters suddenly look after they get their new clothes and am rather surprised people like this ad.

So, will she get her own platformer?

Yeah, that was awful, especially considering I have a touchscreen RIGHT THERE perfect for drag and drop. AC is HUGE on the "dialog as menus" and minimal UI outside of that and the inventory so Im' not surprised.

This is a chicken/egg thing, do you recognize more Isabelle because she was popular and Nintendo picked on that and decided to use her? Or was she pushed by Nintendo from the beginning as the new AC face, making her popular from the start? I think is the latter.
Doesn't really matter how it started (though after looking at early Japanese ads and TVCMs, the initial marketing didn't focus on Isabelle as far as I can tell). If it actually was Nintendo, they made the right choice. People like Isabelle, I heavily doubt KK or Resetti would be as marketable no matter how hard Nintendo would try to push them. Those characters simply don't have the same universal appeal. I need to know who Resetti or KK are to care about them, Isabelle on the other hand is just a cute and recognizable design, she resonates with people who've never played Animal Crossing.

I think Nintendo is just giving the audience what it wants. They don't really have a reason to push Isabelle (or Rosalina for that matter) over any other character, they own all of them. If they focus on certain characters over other characters, it's because they're more marketable. And that's almost certainly true for Isabelle.

I agree. Also let us choose where new villagers are allowed to build houses. My poor roads and orchards...

From the New 3DS commercial, my favorites are Trendy Dress Toon Zelda, Hipster Bowser, Top Hat Toon Link, and of course, Adorable Dress Isabelle. (All names coined by me!)

Made this 1600x900 wallpaper for the laptop:

Creepy time now?

Really wish we could appreciate characters without bringing up Rule 34.

For real. It also extends towards the stupid notion that popularity means that it's now "pandering", as if that hasn't prevented people from enjoying all those other mascots Nintendo use on a regular basis.

Isabelle is just another character among those. She's a character with universal appeal, she's helpful, has a very marketable and distinct design, is capable as a host character and is overall a very endearing character. She's become "the face" of Animal Crossing and manged to trump that position from Tom Nook in no time.

Saying "oh people sexualize her" is hardly detriment to any of those qualities. People sexualize a shit ton of characters on the internet.

Know what's funny/sad, OTs for "lol Compile Heart" game threads: quite clean. Posts about Nintendo characters? borderline NSFW fanart threads. Persona? You better believe that's a waifu thread.

That can be said for any OT. PGaf is pretty strict about the no waifu stuff, as is Smash GAF regarding stupid gross shit. The thing is it's mostly stirred by shit posters. Shitposters don't go into OTs stirring shit up because they'll get banned, and actual discussion regarding the game is encouraged!

As much as I dislike Compile Heart id never go into a neptunia thread calling it ass (which they are).

On topic: I hope AC gets a Wii-U release.

And its kind of unfair because Tom Nook has been here forever...

Seniority < appeal

Doesn't really matter, honestly. If another character manages to become more popular over an already established one, you best believe they'll be thrown under the bus for the new face.

I find it funny that DK high-fives Diddy after the... transformation happens.

I mean is he like "Hell yeah, she dyed my fur yellow with blue polka dots on it, I've become a horrible abomination and have no idea if it's permanent but this is awesome!"

I know you were not talking to me, but I want to explain why I find her annoying, haha. I'm just frustrated that she refuses to do any work when there's an event going on (even something as trivial as setting up a cut-out standee next to the big tree), and I hate how imprecise it is to build things in the game. You have to make sure she stands right where you want your Communituy Project to be. Oh, and she won't let you build things on the beach. Plus she talks too much.

And yeah, I know it's not her fault per se, it's just how the game was made.

I absolutely loved New Leaf, still play it to this day (since june 2013), but she's the only character I find "meh" ("hate" is too much of a strong word for a character so vanilla). Everybody else is so cute and lovable.

uug i'm awake again, I wanna punch Isabella in the face. fuck her and her ugly dress. fuck animal crossing in general.

only exception is Villager in smash, he alright.

Tom Nook is a relatively flawed mascot to have for Animal Crossing in hindsight since his role is akin to a debt collector, which is the obligatory grind for having to experience the game as a whole. You could argue that it's symbolic to the whole life necessities but Animal Crossing is more than just that. He feels more like an infamous "side role" kind of mascot. Isabelle, while new, serves a lot better for getting newcomers acquainted since she's there to help increase the reputation of the town in various ways and make it a much more accommodating place to live. She encompasses more of the things Animal Crossing represents and has more functions to cover, not just Tom Nook who exists for the sake of shopping and mortgage.

I'm amazed at the amount of people hating Isabelle or Animal Crossing in general.

I can understand that you don't care about it, but actually "hate it" is incredibly silly IMO... It's such a harmless game.

Unless you've never tried to play with friends, there is no way you find Isabelle more annoying than Porter. Hate that monkey. Just let me go.

It, along with Kirby, seem to score very highly in the "nintendo franchises you hate" threads. It's also the only game I've been insulted by a (best buy) employee for purchasing. Can't like those Kid Games™ amirite

1: New Leaf was very well received
2: Animal Crossing has been in dire need of a likeable, marketable mascot character for a long time (Villager has too many variations, Tom Nook is marmite and K.K. just isn't prominent enough)
3: Nintendo has been clearly pushing to give their female characters more prominent roles over the last year and appeal to a wider audience
4: Isabelle is a really well liked character (much like Rosalina) from a family friendly game with a cutesy design, just like Pikachu she's pretty much perfect for merchandise opportunities

Personally I think she's well suited to become one of Nintendo's main mascots, ticks pretty much all the boxes.

You mean that backstory from one game 7 years ago? I think the statute of limitations has run out on that claim.
That back story is all she needed to be more interesting then the decades of Peach and Daisy doing nothing to themselves apart.

Rosalina is also a space goddess with powers, she protects the cosmos. Peach and Daisy sometimes join in on sports, racing, and a few other side adventures. They're boring characters that don't amount to much more then "Girly-Girl" stereotype and "Tom-Boy" stereotype.

Tom Nook's basically an organized crime figure, isn't he? Into construction, real estate, commercial distribution, predatory lending, and implied threats, with lots of shell corporations run by his family.

Hey dude you're not really the one to talk about ugly dresses.

Remember the Summer we spent down at the beach? That dress you wore that one time was HIDEOUS!

I love Porter! Have you tried doing the Dr Shrunk dance next to him? He just looks really adorable while doing it.

I'm surprised she wasn't playable in Smash given the push Isabelle is getting.

Considering the lengths they've gone to make "palette swaps" that are full remodels, I'm kinda surprised she's not a Villager skin. Model animations would probably work the same after all.

To me he exists solely to add 30 seconds to each attempt to join/invite someone else online.

She is basically the mascot of the Animal Crossing series at the moment, so I expect her back in the Wii U version.

Lol at people referring to Rosalina as a "goddess". Please. She's a great character and all, but you're giving her a bit too much credit there. Referring to the other two princesses as boring is also kind of subjective. And you can't ignore the fact that Rosalina is practically devoid of any overt personality in comparison.
