Guitar Hero consistently outsold Rock Band until Warriors of Rock/Rock Band 3. Still, Rock Band consistently reviewed better.
Your right, my bad. Still, it proved that money was apparently not an issue with the game's appeal.

People were certain the game would be pure & utter shit, but it ended up being a good game. Not necessarily on par with the depth of DMC3 or anything, not even close, but still a very adequate action game.Being inferior to its predecessors and selling worse than all of them qualifies as serving crow now?
The only OMG for the game at first was just the announcement that Kamiya was doing an exclusive for Nintendo. We did? I got the impression that pretty much all of GAF were pretty excited about it.
The same with XCOM:EU. The response to the unveiling of that game was an OMG!!! from most people.
GAF always gushes over Platinum Games though, regardless of the system or genre. They are a forum favourite along with Obsidian.
Fuse
Insomniac served themselves
As many others have said, Batman: AA.
Before release: "Oh, another licenced game from some no-name dev."
After release: My personal GOTG.
I don't quite get this one.
Didn't they release a demo like a month before the game came out that had everyone dancing in the aisles?
People were PUMPED for Asylum before it launched.
Eh, it's ultimately subjective but I still legitimately think DmC was the worst game I personally played in 2013. The gameplay stripped a ton of things from the DMC formula, contributed nothing new in place of any of that, and the story/writing was stunningly awful.
Jstevenson had to make the thread to announce them going multiplat because nobody cared, rofl
This is one of the ones I was going to mention. Bulletstorm got so much shit prior to its release because the advertisements for that game made it seem like nothing but grade-school humor and insults. They did a terrible job at actually showing off the gameplay, which ended up being a ton of fun. I really don't think most people would have expected to see that game sitting at about an 80% at Metacritic today.
Crackdown is another big one. Most people dismissed it as a way to get to the Halo demo. Then they had some time to kill prior to the demo and holy cow, Crackdown was actually really good! I wanted the game half because of the Halo demo and half because it actually looked fun. It ended up being one of the best games released on the Xbox 360 and remains one of my favorite titles to this day.
More recently, Wolfenstein takes the cake. It didn't get much in the way of good promo prior to release. I wasn't much looking forward to it simply because I didn't much care for the previous entries in the franchise that I had played. Then I received my review copy and wow, I was insanely impressed by what I was playing. I never would have expected a Wolfenstein game to play as well as that nor have a story that I actually gave a damn about.

One of the best videogame protagonists and antagonists this gen...such a good game
Where does this expression come from, "eating crow" ? I'm only seeing it on Neogaf and it came around about two years ago, maybe ?

Yep, still hoping that we'll eventually see a sequel. But currently People Can Fly is stuck with that weird Fortnite game.... :/One of the best videogame protagonists and antagonists this gen...such a good game
Well you certainly don't speak for everyone.huh? Tomb Raider ended up being just as shitty as we expected if not a little worse. None of the concerns people had going into it were proven wrong in any way. It selling well and appealing to game reviewers was never in doubt.
I thought this game only existed so they could sell you a Halo 3 Beta.

Ended up being better than Halo 3 and some of the most pure fun I had all generation.
Have you played any F2P Korean MMOs?
Why am I bothering to respond to this bait?
I think it was before the demo and later previews. There was the usual "it's a licenced game, but it might actually be good" stuff coming from early impressions, but I think a lot of people didn't take much notice as we'd heard it all before.
People are talking about before that; when the first shots and other material came out I recall the game being treated as a complete joke with things like the bulky art being mocked. Then people actually got to play it and realised it was legit. Sort of like a less protracted version of Human Revolution's turnaround.
Deadly Premonition
Went from $20 shovelware,
to joke game that's "so bad it's good,"
to genuinely great.
.This game is called Demon's Souls and it looks like this. It's so cliche, bland and uninspired that I cannot comprehend why anyone would be looking forward to investing their time in something so mediocre.
Oooh. Red Dead Redemption is another. Remember that it was a sequel to Red Dead Revolver.Yeah, now that you mention it, that makes more sense.
Nice pull.
DP tied with RDR for my GOTY 2010.
Killzone 2. From a mediocre first game, to the infamous 05 trailer, the comeback was a gritty and unique shooter that will always have a place among the GOAT lists of the genre. The perfect example of the anti-Cod game, a beacon that came out in a time when most were trying to replicate the rising CoD success with tons of generic clones. (even GG fell victim with the sequel).
Cool to hear some F2P Korean MMOs out there actually do have combat worth talking about then.Almost assuredly more than you ever have, and I will tell you right now that Xenoblade's combat wishes it would be anywhere near as engaging as some of the better F2P Korean MMOs out there.

I shake my head when people blame the mp for the ending debacle. Can't wait for the next ME multiplayer.Mass Effect 3s multiplayer is definitely a good choice.
I feel like Neogaf is the only place on earth that regularly uses the phrase "serving/eating crow" anymore.
Dude, don't bother. I've seen him do this already, if he's in a thread and he sees Xenoblade mentioned in some sort of positive light, he will make sure to express how much he dislikes the game. It's no use trying to argue because he already has his mind made up. The game just isn't for him.
