Nope, they didn't hide it. Looks absolutely nothing like the woman in jail. I think the firebender is probably related to Zuko in some way.
I don't recall see her face, just a bit of the bottom of it

Well, the major plot point of the season carries over into the next book. I guess I can PM you like a basic break down of the season that will allow you to watch Book 3. Let me know.
Its worth watching if you like bending action. It had some really great fight scenes.

Just go through it. Theres some S2 characters in S3, and the 2 parter "Beginnings" is amazing. Fights were cool too.
You'll be missing a lot of context, but you can just find a summary if you don't want to deal.
Definitely watch Beginnings, though. It's a two part episode that explains what Harmonic Convergence is as well as how the Avatar came to being.

Yeah. At the very least, he should watch Beginnings Pt. 1 and 2, and then read a summary if they absolutely can't stomach the season. But it's pretty short, that you could plow through to Beginnings. And at that point, might as well just finish it.
Neat the wait for next episode is going to feel like an eternity

They need to keep Korra and Asami adventuring by themselves together as much as possible. Korra's insufferable attitude finally evaporates when paired with her.

the korra/asami friendship is fucking great. this is a VERY promising start of the season and definitely the best episodes of the series so far.

Can't find the post I was thinking of but according to another post by Mike, Book 2 was written from May 2011 to May 2012. So it seems likely Book 3 was written after May 2012.

It's a win win. Asami gets more screen time and personality, and Korra is more toned down (and thus becomes more likable). I think them pairing off characters was done so well.
i'm trying to understand the history of this show. the behind the scenes has to be pretty interesting. i can only assume that only book 1 was greenlit in 2009 or early 2010 as an attempt to have a companion series to the shyamalan avatar trilogy that never happened, kind of like tron uprising, and sorta like the tmnt series/movie. so book 2 had to have started after nick knew the first movie was a bomb, but they may have still had eyes on a trilogy. obviously, that's not happening now, but in 2011 it could have still been in discussions.
books 3 and 4 were greenlit at the same time, and i assume that was after the initial success of book 1. it shows that nickelodeon had some faith in the show, and it's not like the ratings were bad for book 1, really. so what really confuses me is their attitude in shifting book 2's schedule around, putting up multiple episodes at the same time, and then seemingly doing that with book 3's 1.5 hour premiere. something happened that seems to indicate they lost faith in the show, and just want to burn it off as fast as possible. maybe they still had dreams of a movie trilogy when book 1 aired? maybe some high level staff was shuffled around and new people didn't want a girl as the lead in an action show?

I finished watching the three episodes and they were awesome. What a great start for the new season. Korra and Asami are amazing together.

I thought Book 2 was crap pretty much from the onset but Book 3 is freaking great! Love this season so far and thank you getting rid of all the damn spirits. They were easily the worst thing about book 2. Loving the new villains so far!
I can see that. But I still think it was important for Mako to react to the break up. One of the things I hated in Book 2, is how Asami showed no emotion about her break up. They just had her randomly off screen. At least with Mako it made sense why he was drifting away from the group. Plus, most of his awkward scenes were humorous (much better than the typical douchey/cocky/aggressive mako).
So basically, this show's behind the scenes has been a clusterfuck of broken dreams?

I was thinking about the reason that why the convergence only gave air bending, and i think the answer is balance. When Ozai's father destroyed the air benders he screwed with the balance of the human world. Suddenly a whole culture was gone. Avatar and Rava create/maintain balance. So i a way giving people air bending is a way for the avatar to return balance and recreating a lost culture that only shared by very few people.

Yeah that definitely sounds like the explanation. Although I find it strange how the Lion Turtles initially had the elements and individually gave them to people. So how does the spirit world magically give people air bending (if it's not them)? It then makes you go back to the question: who are the lion turtles? What are they? Why are they doing now after convergence and the gate is open?
I'll be curious if they try to explain the air bending and the balance aspect, or if they will just say "the spirit world is trying to bring back balance" and leave it at that.
I think the writers are just pulling another Jinora ex machina.
So i watched the first 2 episodes of the first series when they originally aired and absolutely hated them. However after watching the whole thing to season three over the last few days, I have to say i love it. It has it's problems (love triangle for one even tho i dont hate it as much as some) But I think when you look at it as its own show and not comparing it to ATLA It's really enjoyable.

I doubt Korra was really meant to extensively tie in with the films given how standalone it is. I remember an interview from a while ago that Nick wanted more Avatar after TLA, but they didn't want to pad out the show past the planned ending, so they waited until the idea for Korra came together. It's also interesting that Korra season 2 integrated some of the plots that were rumored to be turned into TV movies back in the TLA days (Iroh's travels in the spirit world and the first avatar).
I went back and watched clips from the Book 2 finale. Speculation and stuff.:

Perhaps those vines are actually that tree's roots?
It was Unalaq's goal to unite the physical and spiritual worlds so it would make sense and explain how they are not so easily removed.

I can see what's going to happen, while she'f off fighting the new four baddies, the Earth kingdom will invade Republic City and the president will be shit all willing to let it happen. It'll be the spirits that save the day and thus Korra's reasoning will be just and everyone will love the Avatar again.

Oh yeah, I got that. I more so meant, how does bending tie into spirit world. I don't think we've actually seen that connection (closest I've seen is the ability to bend energy, and Korra bending her spirit energy at the end). But in terms of the overall mythos, have we seen a direct connection between the elements and spirit energy?
It was in the Wan episode that they established how Elements were originally created and given out (and it was the Lion Turtles). So that's what I meant. I don't know how that plays into convergence or the spirit world (as like an entity) balancing out things by giving people air bending. But I guess if that is what happened, the convergence happening and the energy covering the world would make sense in terms of a delivery system for it.
I hope I wasn't the only one who thought Kai was pretty unlikable & unsympathetic, so I hope some time in that prison will set him straight. Though I will admit seeing him having a cutesy romance with Jinora helps a little, and Tenzin would be the ideal person to provide guidance for him.
Also, do you think it's possible that a bender could also be able to gain the ability to airbend? I think it would be kind of cool to have Korra take on a bunch of pseudo-Avatars.

Nope, he's a little jackass. But his character will be okay if they redeem him in a proper way. If they drag him out for an entire season continuously being a prick, then it would get old fast. There is something about his voice + his actions that drive me nuts. It's basically a little kid that is a shit head (imagine Aang being an asshole).
My guess is that since she no longer has contact with Aang, she doesn't know how to do it.
She might eventually be able to figure it out herself, but I feel like that would take a level of comfort with inner spiritual stuff that Korra doesn't have the patience for.

It does seem like there's some confusion about what the Avatar state actually is, since it was originally described as allowing access to past avatars' experiences, buuuut Korra can apparently still use it as a powerup without having that connection.
It's hard for a character like this to be likeable and I'm not sure if he's supposed to be but I can sympathize, knowing the kid has probably had a tough past and he misbehaves and acts the way he does as a way to have fun and exist in an otherwise harsh and unfortunate situation. It's what he's learned to do to survive. I'm sure his background will be revealed in more detail later and they will use this along with the guidance of Tenzin and the crew to help him turn a new leaf. Afterall, we see how Mako and Bolin have turned out and we know from the premiere alone that they were very similar in their youth which is why Bolin sympathizes and Mako knows he's untrustworthy. They lived the same life then they found probending.
The only problem that I have with the kid is that his character is predictable.
All I have to say is.. thank god we're away from Republic City. They should have never returned there in Season 2 and I hope they don't here. Otherwise, pretty good start, enjoyed the Zuko return and villain introductions. Some Team Avatar parts were a bit weak, but still enjoyable over all. Liking the new kid and more Jinora is always welcome.
Really shocked Nick.com still doesn't have them up. Jesus. No advertisement/marketing, random Premiere a week and a half later..and then they can't get them up on their site for a day and a half later? SMH
Plus, Amon was using his blood bending to block off their spiritual path ways (to cut off their energy). Korra was just re-opening them. I don't really think that's the same thing as knowing how to do the reverse. What Amon was doing wasn't the same as Aang? I think Aang was actually energy bending.
