Game Informer's Best Of E3 2014 Awards

Splatoon getting ignored again? Shocking.

After watching their Nintendo recap video (I stopped the video after a few minutes...too much

) I'm not surprised.
You would think these guys are super excited about games with all the almost perfect scores they're dishing out...

What's the source of that gif?

The funny thing I keep seeing in these E3 recap videos is 'gaem jurnalizts' missing the joke spectacularly in the opening Robot Chicken segment. Nintendo wasn't ripping into its fans. It was taking the piss out of game journalists.

You'd think people would be able to tell when they're getting the piss taken out of them. I mean, they were wearing press badges and everything...

Anyways... on topic: games were chosen that I would not have chosen, but it's all opinions and PR, so bleh, no need to get riled about it.

Its pretty funny, I've heard someone else call them ''fans', probably was GT or ign dont think ive bothered anywhere else

Edit: I GUESS... having treehouse live show these games off, and us all watching it, we probably just know these games far better than people trying to visit everything at E3 and having to travel between booths.

Seeing this list just makes me appreciate GAF's E3 Awards that much more. Glad to be a a part of this community.

Yeah, definitely.

If you're going to have a video game magazine/website that is supposed to cover all games, at least hire some people who are willing to get excited for each platform. You should have a fan of Sony a fan of MS and a fan of Nintendo on your team so that they're each willing to get accurate information about each platform. If they had someone on their staff who truly loved and cared about Nintendo that recap video wouldn't have been so bad.

What's the source of that gif?

Woah, I thought Evolve will be a run-of-the-mill shooter. The character designs didn't appeal to me at the reveal. The monsters are cool though.

All these awards pique my interest. I just watched some gameplay on gamersyde and it looks cool. Still would have preferred if there was a singleplayer portion.

Thank you kind sir.

Also, I love that Destiny is finally being called what it is, an MMO. no matter how bungie or activision are trying to not call it one. It is an MMO.

Sad that my game of the show No Man's Sky isn't on the list though. It looks like the game of my dreams.

As insipid as I expected them to be, its great that this E3 was so full of variety that the ranges of favorite games are so vast and yet...this guys decide to go with the choices that they think their readership will approve.

I really need to check into Evolve more

My beef is it seems to be one type of mode, on multiple maps and that seems to get old fast, but everyone comes out impressed

Indeed, what a strange thing to pick Mario Maker instead of Splatoon for example. Kinda makes me wonder if they paid any attention to any Nintendo games. Of course, it's possible they just found Mario Maker really exciting I guess.

B-b-b-b-but I thought Nintendo won.
Stop with that shit. Not only is that outright stupid, but it's also unclear what it is you're wanting to say - are you laughing at Nintendo fans in general, or at the Eurogamer's article or what? Either way it's not relevant as the people are different.
It also isn't nice to people who actually stutter.

Nintendo can't win whatever they announce unless they abandon their identity. Another reason is probably that it's not economically viable to care about Nintendo as mainstream gaming press, typically every Nintendo related article caters to the MS / Sony perception of Nintendo. Guys you are the ones who asked for online games in genres that are popular in the west; this is why Splatoon exists. I'm not angry, the whole situation is just sad because if things keep going like they are shareholders will eventually oust Iwata and turn the last company I care about into a pile of shite like the rest of the Japanese publishers.

I'm starting to see a pattern with these online-only multiplayer games at these expos.

The journalists have an incredible amount of fun with their colleagues playing them for a couple of hours -> they create hyperbole ridden previews -> game is released and the hype for it is at stable levels

EDIT: Just saw the game had a single-player to it. Color me surprised.

If anyone from GI is reading this, I have a few more categories for Evolve to win.

Best Evolve Game
Best Use of the Word 'Evolve'
Best Game to have the Letters E, V, O, L, V, E in the Title
Best Turtle Rock Studios Game
Best Game Not Coming To The Wii U

First time hearing about Evolve, can't say I'm excited by it after seeing gameplay. Will need to have a good single player to keep my interest

Not being a mutiplayer fan, especially that kind of multiplayer, the amount of fucks I can give to Evolve is a whopping 0. Zero, zero fucks given. Ah ha ha.

Xenoblade and Bloodborne were my favorite games from E3. Captain Toad was awesome too. For things that we actually got to see Gameplay of anyways (including Bloodborne's leaks). Favorite trailer was Dead Island 2, that shit was hilarious.

And seriously GI, Mario Maker? I have absolutely no clue how anyone could rationally come to that decision given the quality of the other titles shown, especially with all the coverage of Actual Gameplay from Nintendo's Treehouse.

Woops, GI, not IGN, acronyms hard, too early, etc.

If Splatoon was coming to the other consoles from a indie dev it would be getting even less love. I feel like it gets brought up pretty often for what it is.
It's notable because it's from a major publisher and is getting a big marketing push.

Evolve isn't online only.

Old 52 minute video of Evolve from all four players perspective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51YhRPYQHtY&feature=share&list=LLGt_DM0v5TaRBsJo-JQScbQ&index=22

It looks really, really polished. Can't wait for it.

Thanks for the video. But man, the announcer's play-by-play on this is soooooooooo bad.

This game looks like it would get old very fast, but probably fun for a little bit I guess ... really don't see how this could take best game of E3, but that's just me.

Just want to reiterate that I've never been so underwhelmed by a gameplay demo as I was by Evolved at PAX East. I just...don't get it. So much downtime.

I hope Evolve sweeps the E3 awards so we can have a repeat of the Titanfall hemming and hawing for months on end due to the press actually getting excited over multiplayer only games these days.

Probably because Evolve is a little more ambitious. I know it was clear that Rainbow Six was the MP game I was coming out of E3 the most excited about, by a country mile.

Why do you think Evolve is more ambitious? Genuine question since I haven't followed either game that closely.

I guess I should re-evaluate my hype level for Evolve. And it's coming this fall? This year's not looking too bad after all.

Destiny is an MMO now? I doubt you will even reach average Call of Duty match player count outside the tower.

It's not like they can call it a MO, that would just be silly.

6vs6 or 6vsE is massive. I wonder what PlanetSide 2 is by that standard. ;-)

Maybe its my opinion, but Titanfall actually looked really cool and the view was shared by many, not only the press hyped it up. Maybe it was because it was exclusive. But anyway I haven't seen anyone really hyping up Evolve on forum level, especially Neogaf, so I'm baffled by this hype.

Going by the results of the GAF E3 poll, you aren't alone here.

They really need to get an open beta/demo out there.

Had zero interest in Destiny until playing it, but that changed after 20 minutes with the thing. I'm sure Evolve is the same way.

i'm surprised that grim fandango earned the top adventure game spot, when you can't preorder it. gamestop, what are you doing?

I think Evolve is interesting and all but it doesn't seem the type of game to light the world on fire.

The fact you get the 4th monster out of pre-order DLC kills any hype I had for the game as well.

I love Batman:AK as well but Bayonetta got ROBBED.
