Before was a mild curiosity, something where I would probably watch some gameplay or streams during release week and then never really buy. Now that I've played the Alpha I will most likely be buying at release

Someone a few posts up mentioned it being boring, and I was at that point briefly, but then it kind of clicked with me and I understood how the game was expecting me to play. Once that happened I had a hard time putting it down. Not to mention the fact that I don't have PS+, so I was doing all solo content. Will probably spring for PS+ when the full game releases so I can do the Strike missions and whatnot

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny…was mixed. My interest level was: 6/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny…got much better. My interest level is now: 9/10.

Before the Alpha my impression of Destiny was pretty low. The videos made the game seem exceedingly boring and stale. I would say roughly 4-6.

After the Alpha my impression of Destiny is much higher. The gameplay sells the game, the only thing that I have an issue with is exploration mode. I would say I'm sitting at a firm 8-9. I will be picking it up.

conclusion: we need a new demo culture

Not gonna happen. Demos have a far easier time turning a consumer off than they have of getting one to pick up the game. This demo worked because of the rather tepid response it was getting.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was that it's a generic sci-fi shooter with little to entertain me and no cohesive vision guiding it. I really wanted to believe it would be grand, but just couldn't. My interest level was: 4/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has drastically changed. I don't know if I didn't pay enough attention before or if they were bad at communicating their vision before, because after what I've seen I've fallen in love with it. My interest level is now: 10/10.

I've had an amazing time and I'm really looking forward to it. Destiny captured me with the attention to detail, all those little things like handling of the hoverbike thingy, loading screens, how movement (and jumping!) feels, how all classes are perfectly equipped to handle all weapons and the differences lie somewhere else, the enemies, the gorgeous art design and the world that has finally grabbed my attention. I want to explore it and learn about its origins and history and now I want to believe it's as grand and ambitious as they seem to hint, and now I can.

1. Before the alpha my impression of Destiny was some kind of Borderlands-meets-Halo-MMO-FPS. My interest level was about a 4 or 5.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny...was still pretty much the same. Very Halo/Borderlands imo, it's an FPS obviously, but with MMO/RPG elements. And honestly, that's not a bad thing. I like it. My interest level is probably an 8 or 9 now. I'm definitely going to try out the beta when it starts, and I'll most likely keep my preorder. I had a lot of fun with it, because it's so open what you can do and where you can go. If you want to go through a story, you can do that. If you want to explore the world, maybe do sidequests, you can do those. If you want to raid dungeons and defeat a few bosses, you can do that. And if you just want some pvp fps action, you can do that. All with the same character you build up. I like the unique approach that kind of blends everything together.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny…was that it looked like an unfinished, unpolished mess, and really had no idea what the point of the game was. My interest level was: 4/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny…is that I am super excited about the Retail release. The game is intensely polished and is incredible fun, along with addicting gameplay and pretty visuals. My interest level is now: 9.5/10.

Alpha is my current GOTY (lol)

love on your sleeve
Didn't change anything for me. I was hyped before the Alpha, I'm still hyped after the Alpha. The game is basically exactly as I imagined it would be based on trailers and descriptions.

I've always been at 10/10, but that shouldn't be surprising.

It will be interesting to see how these scores change once the Beta is out. I've heard it will add quite a bit to what was available in the alpha.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny...eh. Pretty uninterested. Nothing I had seen sold me on the game. Honestly, I only kept up with it because of the Bungie name. My interest level was: 3/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is better. The world is interesting and honestly it reminds me of Halo. My interest level is now: 8/10.

I liked what I played.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was that I was not that interested. My interest level was: 4/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has completely changed. I registered for the Alpha during E3 and have not stopped playing it. My interest level is now: 10/10.

This is me. Must have

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was fairly high. Watching the gameplay vids, reading about the various aspects of the game, and the fact that Bungie is creating it, made my level of anticipation quite high My interest level was: 9/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has fallen. The production values are through the roof, yes, but everything else is so...convoluted and weird. Levels are barren w/o much loot, bullet-sponge enemies, loading game sequences (flying around in my ship...okay(?). The amount of time it takes to load between the different modes of play, and the multiplayer that feels very little like Halo, tries to be Call of Duty-ish, but pulls off neither successfully. Overall, at least going by the Alpha, Destiny doesn't seem to understand what exactly it wants to be. And that's quite worrying. Still, I have high hopes that the final product will probably impress. Probably. My interest level is now: 6/10.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was it's next Bungie game - I love Bungie! ...but was cautious about the potential lack of story/plot - didn't seem to have any strong characters like the Master Chief. My interest level was: 8/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that Bungie have struck gold again... It's phenomenal... every aspect of it... Just want to play it more and more!. My interest level is now: 10/10.

I knew about the game but honestly never quite gave it a second thought.

I tried the Alpha and was very impressed. I really liked the overall presentation of everything. I loved the main theme that played in the title screen/mission select menus. Gave a calm and serene space-opera vibe that I haven't really experienced since Mass Effect 1, and that same experience carried throughout the game. It was so well put together, complete with the great world building and vistas that it really made me want to plunge head first and take in the whole game world.

Though I didn't really make an opinion on the gameplay since I sadly didn't have that much time to play it this weekend. Why the hell did they do this Alpha during Father's Day weekend + NBA Finals... >:|

So pre-Alpha: meh/10 (don't wanna score it low since it implies I actively disliked it)
Post-alpha: 7/10 (not higher because I wasn't able to actually see enough of the gameplay for myself. My positive impressions were pretty much from the outstanding presentation.)

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny very negative, I had resolved never to buy it. My interest level was: -5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has changed dramatically for the better, I even went and pre-ordered it.. My interest level is now: 10/10.

I can't think of a number to tie to what I thought before the alpha . Definitely wasn't excitement. I was curious to see what the game was about and Bungie wouldn't give up any useful info

Let's just say 5/10.

After the alpha I still don't have a good idea about what to expect of the content in the full game. One story mission that takes 5 minutes, the Strike mission was kind of cool and the free roam was by the numbers. Actually, I thought it was kind of bad. Boring quests having me cross over the same areas that I just came from and the enemies respawning maybe 30 seconds after I kill them. Pretty archaic design. Multi was decent

I'm going to hold out and see what we get in the beta. I'm sure Bungie will drop a quality product in the end but for now, I'm still waiting for a better glimpse at the game.

5/10

Seems like I'm in the minority. Levels seem kind of barren, the gameplay is very generic and derivative of other shooters, and the story is absolutely worthless. Overall the missions just seemed incredibly boring. I will say that the production values are incredible, and the multiplayer was decent. I may cancel my preorder.

Before the Alpha: 6/10
After the Alpha: 3/10

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was pretty muddled. I knew all my friends would get it because they had all played Halo, but I was always horrible at Halo. I was extremely worried I would hate the gunplay. My interest level was: 4/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is one of purely excitement. I couldn't stop playing the first night. I absolutely loved the mechanics, and playing with friends in a fireteam was a blast. My interest level is now: 9/10. Would have been higher, but I didn't think I could recommend playing solo, unless it's in The Crucible.

1) Before, I thought it was Borderlands. The only thing that was different, was that it was prettier looking.

2) After, I still think it's Borderlands. I just think that the multiplayer is fun (nerf those shotguns seriously). I'm not sure if I still want it or not. The exploration part looked fun, but it turned out to be kinda boring. The areas were beautiful at least. It's one of those games that are fun with friends, and less without them. Since I don't have any friends to play with, to have shenanigans happen. I have to be skeptical as heck if I get interested in it. So I'm still as 50-50 with it as I was before the alpha.

Before the beta interest was at a 6/10 due to lack of knowledge on what the game truly would be.

After the beta, my interest and intent to purchase is 10/10. The game strikes a perfect balance of exploration, loot, action, MMO devices and team play to basically be the most intriguing and desirable shooter in years for me.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny…[finish this sentence]. My interest level was:Very interested. I really enjoyed Borderlands 2, as well as the single player campaigns of the Halo series. Hearing that Destiny was being made by Bungie and borrowed a lot of ideas from Borderlands 2 and MMOs sounded good to me!

My interest level was: 8.8/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny…is very positive. I'm enjoying wandering around Old Russia, solo or with a GAF fire team. Addicted to finding or buying new gear. I think the game looks amazing, and the gunplay feels solid. Really enjoying the teamwork necessary in Strike missions and look forward to more of them. Some minor gripes (shotguns and vehicles OP in Crucible, turn speed feels slow even with stick sensitivity increased, Dinklage's poor voice acting, the endless fetch quests and having to grind reputation for certain vendors.), but not enough to deter me from the game. I've spoken with other GAFfers, and one of them complained about a lot of the MMO elements being bad, but he was big on WoW and ran raids a lot, so I think he just had fatigue. However, I have much less experience playing MMOs, so I don't mind the MMO elements (Destiny is a "shared world shooter," not an MMO!) .

My interest level is now: 9.5/10.

Before alpha, 6/10. Had it already preordered but was waffling after seeing some gameplay footage. Never liked Halo, having second thoughts.

After alpha, 9/10. Preorder kept. This game is just plain fun. I see a lot of potential here. Feels like Halolands and that's actually ok with me.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was that bungie is unable to present us the game in an interesting way, everything seemed boring and cloned, I also had high expectations from them since I am Halo fan. My interest level was: 4/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is veeery good, I still think Bungie was unable to show us the game, but the game is a blast, sure I think the PVP needs some balancing and there needs to be more loot in PVE but the game itself is incredible. My interest level is now: 9/10.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was that this would just help Halo 5 sell more and it would either flop or sell out with DLC. My interest level was: 5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that it's better than playing in the Halo world and I can enjoy Bungie more than just being the guys who made Halo. My interest level is now: 9/10.

It's very impressive. It's way more satisfying than Halo in terms of playing it long term. I lost all desire to play Halo. I even played in a tournament at a church. It burned me out. This is a fresh new perspective, but who knows. I do want to play the real version when it comes out. I got to a level 8 in the Alpha, but there's not much to do and my progress will probably not transfer over. Destiny is one game I could progress a lot further in without feeling like I was missing a great sci-fi game. Halo was known as "that game" that "everyone knew about and played multiplayer". I just want more out of games than that.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was neither good nor bad. Thought it looked decent, but needed to see more than what was being put out by Sony/Bungie. My interest level was: 6/10

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is low. This game is meant to be played with others, and for someone who plays solo most of the time, the game just doesn't work. It also gets boring pretty fast.. Maybe that came down to it being the alpha, but I had enough at that point. My interest level is now: 4/10.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny…Looked good, but gameplay demonstrations didn't necessarily showcase all that well. I was confident they'd likely deliver given the pedigree of the developer, however. My interest level was: 8/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny…is that it's everything I hoped it would be and more. This will almost positively be my game of the year if the rest of the game delivers like the alpha did. My interest level is now: 10/10.

i feel like these should be prefaced with whether you are a super big halo player or something...because im not sure how much i should trust some of these super glowing impressions people have.

that said it certainly does seem like a lot of people enjoyed it!

I wanted it to be Halo but was severely disappointed, I highly doubt big Halo players would have that much more positive impressions

Before the alpha I had a mild interest, mostly because it was a Bungie game.

Now I'm hyped as hell. The alpha showed a lot of promise. Even with the lack of content in the alpha. I spent most of the weekend playing it. Hopefully the full game lives up to my expectations.

1. Before the Alpha I had a slight interest in the game but was really waiting for more info before deciding what to do. I thought it was Diablo with guns and a Left for Dead style level system. 2/10

2. After playing the Alpha on a whim I can say I'm 100% on board for this game. I didn't think it would have 'open world' like sections, a boss/raid mode, a hub-world like Monster Hunter, or really good PVP. My first hour of the Alpha I was turned away from the game because I didn't see the whole point in running around an open world for hours and there was so much going on it was hard to fully grasp. But once I tried the Strike mode ( which is a Dungeon ) I finally got it; run around the open world finding loot and leveling up to take on insane bosses that are actually boss fights and not 'shot the weak point to kill it' 3-minute bosses. Then take the new armor you just got, equip it, and do it again; this time on Legendary difficulty. And when you get bored of that? A fun PvP mode is there and the open world is so vast you can explore it for hours just looking at everything. 10/10. Might even break for a Collector's Edition if it's a nice one and decently priced!

The most I have ever played of the Halo series is maybe 15 minutes of Reach. That said the game looks like the lovechild of Halo and Star Wars mixed with some post-apocalyptic ruin.

1. Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was high initally but every trailer and piece of news after the initial reveal significantly impacted my hype. My interest level at initial reveal was 8/10 but just prior to alpha was more close to 5/10 and was seriously considering cancelling my pre-order.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny has increased dramatically. Yes this is not going to be my favourite game of all time because i have similar gripes as many others - explore mode quests are repetitive, loot grind, VA work. However i still couldn't help myself and i levelled all three classes to 8 and still at the end of the day enjoyed my time with it and it has made me keep my pre-order. My interest level is now: 8.5/10

Before the alpha, my impression of Destiny was to await for reviews from the final product before making my purchase. From the trailers I watched, I felt that the game was advertised poorly by not showing the full potential of what game mechanics were offered. My interest level was: 5/10.

2. After having played the alpha, my impression of Destiny is that Bungie has indeed developed a game that will give COD and Halo a run for their money. The art direction is top notch, and you really begin to appreciate it as you traverse the desolated planet in search of missions to fulfill. I was surprised with how massive in scope the map was, and how seamlessly the public events were introduced. It was just so enjoyable to explore a treacherous no man's land with your squadmates. I can only hope that the next Mass Effect can match this game's stature of epicness. My interest level is now: 9/10.

After getting use to the controls, it was really fun to play.
Played mostly solo, but saw how playing in teams would be a blast.
Overall, I feel this game has lots of potential.

Before, I was probably at a 4 or 5/10.

After, probably a 7/10. I'm sure it will be a fun game and all, I'm just concerned about the mission variety not being there. I can see it getting really boring and repetitive if there isn't a significant amount of different mission types.

Granted, this was a very limited slice, so I'll hold further judgement until closer to release.

Before I was interested but sceptical. I don't think anyone who downloaded the alpha can legitimately say they weren't interested.

After, I am more positive but I have deep questions about the depth of the experience. Every mode was the same, shoot lots of mostly respawning enemies. Not only that, but really, really dumb enemies. The challenge only came from sheer numbers or mostly their powerful attacks of the boss type enemies.

The tower is very bland as a social or RPG experience. Seeing other people running around and being able to use three emotes...cool?

The multiplayer is fun but suffers from its netcode design, I'm not sure of the proper term but whatever happens on your screen is accepted regardless of latency, so very, very often you and another player will kill each other a second after ducking behind cover. It reminds me of Resistance 2 as opposed to other games like COD or BF where its very precise and you rarely get the feeling of being killed by an enemy you just shot. I imagine this is a design choice to allow matchmaking to tolerate higher latencies but I don't enjoy it.

The overwhelming feeling the alpha gives is on a game laser focussed around visual customisation as the sole drive for the player, but it will wear thin.

I can empathize here. I solo'd about 80% of Borderlands 2 because I had very few friends who played it. I usually play single player games as well, so the majority of my gaming I do alone. But I was still interested in Destiny because I wanted to explore all the areas the game has to offer, and I really enjoyed just riding my Sparrow around Old Russia. Playing with GAFfers does make the game much more enjoyable, though. If you want to try out the beta, I'd be happy to team up with you :)

i think i still need some time with it, the gun play was solid, but the mission/rpg elements, failed to satisfy my needs. If i knew that there would be additional character faces/customization options , if the beacon missions were a bit more streamlined, and if the rough animations were smoothed out, it would be a 10/10. They very well may be working on these things, but they ended up dampening my hype just a bit. still looking forward to september but i need to follow the development of the game to see if some of my qualms are addressed.
