I don't know what away from home means, but it goes to fairplay before drawing lots and chances of them finishing on equal yellow cards must be low.

Well, technically there still are home and away games. Turkey for example played away this game and scored two goals. Czech scored only 1 away goal, so the turks would go through with a remis.

I hope Croatia improve like the Czechs and Turks tomorrow.

Portugal have topped the group so they can rest players if they want. Maybe start Veloso, Nani, Quaresma, Almeida, Meira etc instead of some of their stars.

:lol That's ridiculous. So I believe it.

Scolari :lol:lol:lol

Good riddance. Poor Chelski fans though, he doesn't have what it takes to manage a club, sorry guys. Let alone an english Champions League club.

Won't last more than one season.

Well Turkey is a food and so if UEFA are feeling hungry at the time then they would let them through. That said the Czech Republic is the birthplace of Petra Nemcova, and as UEFA use their peni to think with they might give it to them.

Well you'd know better than me looking at your avatar, but Scolari has won the world cup with Brazil, taken Portugal to a Euro final and then to a world cup semi...doesn't exactly scream not having what it takes.

I think he'll do ok, but to be fair club management and managing a national team are very different things. Being successful in one doesn't necessarely mean you're good at the other.

well it could have been worse too :lol

Damn, what does it take to get into the USA these days? I'm doing a clerkship there in october (6 weeks) and I have to fill in form after form with the silliest questions. I even need to get all kind of exotic blood titer values, which are ridiculously expensive (over a 100 euro) to get here in the Netherlands.

Oh well, once I'm in, I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay.

He's blessed by the gods, i give you that. Do you remember the dreadful start of Brazil's WC2002? They were playing like shit. But suddenly Ronaldo (who had been injuried since who knows when until then) and every other brazilian player were in absolut top shape. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo... it was hard not to win with that team.

With Portugal first he tried to play with all these old players, ignoring the team who had just won the Champions League (Porto). Loses the first game and THEN he finally says "ok come on Deco, come on Maniche, come on Carvalho". Truth be said, he ended up losing again against Greece but whatever.

WC2006 was kind of nice. Still basically the 04 team and now more mature. But the qualifying stage was awful and so was the one for this european championship.

Ok, the bottom line is: he has EXCELLENT motivational skills. He can make players like Ricardo think they're the best in the world. However i think this will be moot in other language than portuguese. He is very stubborn. And he can make a team give their best in a two weeks competition but i doubt that the same is valid for a year long season.

Good luck though.

Well deserved. The rain saved the Swiss when they were cornered in the first half, as soon as it disappeared the Turks prevailed.

I have to agree with mio on Scolari.

I didn't have to to do that much shit but I was only there 3 weeks.

I don't know about the Scolari appointment will Abramovich have a more hands off approach if Scolari brings in flair players, because Scolari has a big personality in a similar vein to Mourinho we could end up seeing a similar situation with the in fighting.

good for Jozy. Looks like they welcomed him the right way. What's with the "6" business? I don't get it..

As long as he turns Chelsea into at least a somewhat interesting side, he'll earn my praise, whether he gets the results Mourinho and Grant did or not.

Where are you visiting, Falch?

Syracuse, NY. Not the most exciting place in the USA (or so I've been told ;)), but it's close enough to NYC, Niagara Falls and Boston.

Well it's a medical clerkship (Psychiatry) so they need a lot of medical information.

Rumor-palooza:
  • Ticket sales for the US-Barbados game on Sunday aren't going very well at the moment. MLS reps have been enlisted to try and sell a few more.
  • Feilhaber is jogging again after his recent knee surgery. He's slated to begin training by the end of the month. It'll be a rush to get him fit before the Olympics, but there's no guarantee he'll make the team.
  • LAG are supposedly sniffing around Edgar Davids. Not sure how they'd fit him under the cap.

I <3 Football, too.......

I don't know much abut Syracuse itself, but you should be able to check out some fun cities from there, as you point out. Plus the local university mascot is the Orangeman, so you'll fit right in. ;)

I know, it's pretty pathetic. :lol I'm annoyed with the fanbase if we can't get a good crowd down there. Might have been a better idea to do it in other city if they can't put butts in the seats.

Woohoo, got myself atleast one buddy there, then. :lol

Anyway, I've heard only great things about the clerkship there, so I'm sure I'll have a great time. Got my own studio there with all relevant appliances and facilities. I'll probably stay a few days in NYC before or after my clerkship.

Oh, my predictions for tomorrow:

Croatia 3-2 Germany
Austria 0-2 Poland

I'm a little bit worried about what Scolari is going to do with Ballack once Chelsea signs Deco. Ballack still has few good years in him, probably even the best years of his career, which he plans to end at Chelsea by the way.

I hope he doesn't end up being the old german dude who can play for 10 minutes from time to time to secure the scoreline.

I think that was the best game of the tournament so far in my opinion. The Spanish and Dutch have been fantastic but I personally prefer close, tight, tense games like that than complete rollovers (although they are fantastic too).

The tournament has definantly got better, I hope it continues to do so to.

It may end up being the best match of the tournament. It had the drama, the entertainent value and it had me on the edge of my seat for the majority of the second half (rolling on the floor in the first half).

Switzerland has a quality squad. Give them 2 years under Hitzfeld and they may become the black horse at the next World Cup. Behrami, Fernandes, Barnetta, Derdiyok, Inler and maybe even Senderos could be great players in time for the WC if they play for the right clubs and make the right choices until then.

This experience will make them much stronger.

Colin Farrell karate chopped a midget! what more could you ask for!

"Listen Harry, with all due respect, you're a cunt, you've always been a cunt and you'll always be a cunt, maybe you'll have some more fucking cunt kids..."

"YOU RETRACT THAT BIT ABOUT MY FUCKING CUNT KIDS!"
I often paraphrase the, "If I'd grown up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me, but I didn't, so it doesn't," line in the analog world. :D

I know someone that's trying to study abroad here next summer (she's from London) and the hoops she has to jump through sound retarded. They speak English in her fucking country fer chrissake!

I need a fucking passport to go to Mexico and Canada now too. So retarded.

It's about 4-5 hours each way by car from there to any of those destinations. Maybe a little less than that for Niagara.

:lol Man this weekend is going to be fun.

:lol :lol @ another over 30 player being linked to the Gals. We're the Milan of MLS.

That was a fun game this evening. Turks a tad lucky, but a great game to watch.

So Scolari to Chelsea, seems a bit of a gamble, what with him having ZERO club management experience in Europe.

  • Yeah, good luck with the MLS reps strategy.

Well, that's a shame, but I can understand people not wanting to spend money to watch the US blowout a country nobody's ever heard of.

I'm upset that they didn't schedule any qualifiers in Columbus this year. They usually got good crowds here, and they played very well here. Plus, Crew Stadium is a great place to watch soccer.
