New DriveClub gameplay videos (IGN)

The guy who talks about the DLC video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vTp6WWhMGuY) reminds me of Ewen Bremner:

I've got a feeling that when Horizon comes out you'll say it shits all over this game in terms of the fun factor. Just a prediction.

i was just sayin maybe that MS employee had a point. if this game was some third party game for all systems nobody would give a shit. im not gettin either i honestly could care less which is better ( and that will always be subjective), but even the old Horizon looks way funner than this, this game could be the racing Goat for all i kno just making a prediction.

it looks nice but it doesnt impress me one bit. I would certainly rather have motorstorm any day of the week. Motorstorm on ps4.... one can dream

At least this thread will supply me with a list of people to never take seriously again ...

There are a lot of "concerned" posters in here already.... Amazing how that works...

Start taking mental notes now, because it's usually the same characters; pretty sad actually. I can;t wait to watch the vids once I'm off my work PC.

I doubt Gamersyde can help, these videos are for IGN, Rushy would have to give new videos to GS I would believe.

If it wasn't an exclusive deal with IGN, he woudl probably send them over, shoot him a tweet and ask... It cant hurt...

I like the map, the mountain in the distance, looks moody... seems to have a good sense of speed judging from the videos. Everything else? It's another good looking racer, one of many... having a hard time getting excited about that tbh.

Amazing stuff, though higher-quality vids sure are needed. The macroblocking in these IGN vids is absolutely terrible.

I think mundane is the right word to describe the game for now. The game could be awesome and actually driving could feel great, but for me that's not coming across in the footage they've released. Rushy is a cool dude and visually the game looks pretty, but these vids aren't doing it for me. The other two vids explaining the systems in the game are just terrible. Why use those low-rent flash animations instead of footage from the dynamic menu and actual racing challenges and whatnot? It's baffling.
Define mundane. Is pgr mundane?

My favorite part of the first video with the Gran Turismo was watching the light cast by the headlights get gradually less pronounced as daylight started to engulf it. Amazing!

The silly nit picking when the overall quality and look of this game is just through the roof, drives me to distraction. I sometimes have to check I'm in the right thread because what people are saying and what I'm seeing are completely different. THIS LOOKS AMAZING.

Why are they on youtube, why is it exclusive to ign, the game still shines through that horrible compression but we need good footage and this is not good.

Yes, baffling, because these are the absolute last vids on the subject we'll ever see between now and October.

They're bloody intros to the features, that's all. Complaining for complaint's sake.

Pretty much. There is no other racing game that is doing the things this game is doing with real time lighting and reflections. Yet apparantly it looks no better than Need for Speed. The mind boggles.

To be fair, the vids are really horribly compressed...

IGN, at least post higher qulaity vids on your site..

Yeah, these videos look dreadful. I don't know how people think it looks good or bad at this point. You can tell the lighting, reflections and locales will look good, but that's all.

EDIT: The gamma seems messed up on these videos too. It's like IGN is trying to make their exclusive video look awful.

Evolution studios has been doing themselves no favors since this game was announced. The quality of that YouTube video was terrible. Man, this game just can't get a solid win.

Mundane means that it lacks excitement, and those vids kinda do. I never really paid much attention to the PGR games.

Feeling the tension and focus of playing a racing game is a huge component of the enjoyment. The experiencing the "feel" of the physics model can also be a huge draw. I'd argue that for these reasons the gulf between watching and playing might be particularly large for this kind of game.

Its not a realistic racer BTW.

It's a realistic racer compared to kart racers or other arcadey racers like Wipeout. Maybe that's what he means.

Even though they are compressed, you can still see it's amazing.

I've just looked at their site and they've only got them up at 720p, so the 1080p youtube videos are really only 720p upscaled for youtube.

We have situation normal: DriveClub looks fantastic, while the Youtube video looks horrible.

The lighting model in DriveClub is a generation ahead of any other racer yet seen on next-gen consoles and this clearly shows in these two gameplay videos. The ambient (sun) lighting + car headlights give DriveClub a realistic look that no other console racer has yet captured. The track detail is phenomenal. Track detail is where most racers skimp, but DriveClub keeps adding layers of trackside eyecandy. You have to slow down the video to appreciate some of it, but it is all there. It has come a long, long way from last E3! Car sounds are excellent. Sense of speed also looked excellent.

Two feedback points for Rushy/Evolution:
1) I'm beating a dead horse, but please find a way to release high quality, high bit rate footage. Youtube videos continue to make your game look like a 480p racer. :P
2) Call the folks at Sucker Punch and borrow their SMAA antialiasing solution. With a good antialiasing solution DriveClub's image quality will very hard to match.

Not life changing, but I'm probably going to put more time than appropriate into this game. I'm a sucker for racing games, provided the car line up is impressive. 55ish is kinda small, but padding the stats with 23 versions of the Skyline doesn't help either.

Do you play racing games? Do you enjoy GT, Forza, NFS? What about Horizon, PGR (although you said you didn't pay attention to this one) Ridge Racer, DiRT?

Any of those ring a bell, did you enjoy them?

SO Rushy said in the interview that there are 5 locations each with 11 tracks.

Which are a combination of point to point tracks, road circuits and race tracks.

No need to force us into thinking it looks amazing when there is a lot to be uncertain about.
My biggest worry right now is aliassing.

But yes. Lighting looks great. Even shadows seem to look good from what i van tell. Speed looks good. Environments..

Gran Turismo outlived its usefulness several games ago for me, since all of them are pretty much the same fucking thing. NFS games control like shit. Ridge Racer is my favorite racing franchise of all time. I haven't played the other games. Are you done calling me out now?
