COMICS! |OT| April 2014. Truly, there is no shame in continuing to read awful comics.

Amazing Spider-Man #1- Eh, fuck this shit, just give me back SpOck. I do want to stick around to see what happens to Anna-Maria, but that's it for now. Glad to see Ramos didn't go back to his crap style he had originally in the previous ASM run, but that's not saying much. At least this issue contains the best only well drawn Ramos-Mary Jane

Batman vs Bane was everything I could of hoped for with this book. It made the mediocre FE Arkham War worth it. Tomasi crafts an intro and an ending but the meat of the story is a badass fight between Batman and Bane and he lets the artist (Scot Eaton) do the heavy lifting and for the most part, is up to the task.

Surfer stays amazing, it is a whole lot of fun and very well done all around.

Avengers and New Avengers got REAL very fast.

Amazing Spider-Man, what can I say other than welcome back Peter. This shit could only happen to him.

Agreed 100%.
Adaptoids, Banner and The Great Society fight that comes soon???
I love those books. Oh and welcome back indeed, Peter. :D

thank god. lets get some real talent on avengers.

Hickman is probably one of the best writers at marvel at the moment.

His books are overly ambitious and he tends to nail his landing. If you want an example of this read his Fantastic Four run. Probably one of the best runs on a book in comic book history might be up there with Simonsons run on Thor.

Oh man, you just raised my excitement level for that book by several degrees.

I would agree that his books are overly ambitious but i think thats his failing as well because to me he doesn't nail his landing. Except on Secret Warriors, i love that book.

I'm reading Waids run of Fantastic Four at the moment and i'm enjoying it a lot more than i did his.

Guys....seriously Deadly Class. This fucking book. Amazing! You know you are reading a good comic when the flow is so great that it turns into a cinematic in your head.

While I agree with you on FF, I think that was a lot more rounded and human than Avengers has been. Avengers is massively high concept but is often cold and at this point full of narrative non-sequiturs and has next to no emotional reasonance outside of a few characters. I'm certainly enjoying it but I don't think it's going to have the same legs as FF does.

Do they explain why the main character
beat the hobo to death for no reason in the last issue? The one who hadn't done anything but be nice to him?

Yes, they explain that. They further explain the girl killing the cop in the first issue. It's slowly being revealed that Marcus has some demons inside of him.

I hope Hickman leaving the Avengers means I'll get the Manhattan Projects spin off that I now want more than anything
The Einsteins Killing Around the Multiverse Projects

Wow, Black Science ended with a bang.
Looks like we're going to get split stories with Grant sliding to different realities and the rest of the gang doing the same. With maybe some chance reunion down the line.

but I am taking tiny steps forward

Ooh awesome. Great to see the first of hopefully many Image hardcover collections. Does anyone know if any more were solicited yet? What I'm really looking forward to reading are the hopefully-upcoming Hickman, Fraction, and Remender comics in hardcover collections. Edit: Oh, and definitely Manifest Destiny too. Edit 2: Oh, and Zero, obviously. Man, there are way too many good Image comics right now.
I'll very likely pick up Saga though. The library had the first trade and I remember enjoying it, but I don't think my mind was totally blown like with some people. Definitely good comics though, and I do like my oversized hardcovers.

Almost picked up ASM#1, but I didn't wanna spend the extra $6 when I have two copies of the Gamestop variant on the way, anyhow.

I just can't believe people think Saga is legitimately great. It's coasted one the creators reputations far too long....

It's awesome. It just might not be suited to your tastes. The fantasy/sci-fi blend doesn't always click with everyone. But I've been enjoying it immensely. The quality definitely took a bit of a dip around issue #15 or so, but it seemed to have gotten its footing back after that.

Silver Surfer is what they call, "schway." Issue 2 was schway. The art is schway.

Love Silver Surfer. But I know it's mostly because of Allred. I doubt I would have picked it up if he wasn't on the creative team. But this story just suits his art style so well.

Dunno if this is common knowledge or not, but Hickman only has a year left on the Avengers.
Damn, wonder who will be on it after? Remender would be my choice but I'd much rather see him on the main X-book to repair the damage Bendis has done. Charles Soule, maybe?

I've read the first three or four issues of it and I don't see what the hype is about. It's good, but not best book of the year Eisner winning good. It comes across as far too smug as well

I'm caught up with Injustice and loving it. I've just bought some digital firsts in comixology to try out. 6 issues of Justice League Beyond, Superman Beyond, Adventures of Superman and some Ami-Comi Girls.

Even having to use the website to order it's just too damn convenient

I'm with you, Rafa. It's not bad by any means, but it's nothing amazing just yet. With that said, I do think it has the potential to be up there with BKV's other great works, it's just taking its sweet ass time to unfold.

Nice, I needed a laugh. And that's exactly what I said when Bendis got off the Avengers entirely. New Avengers volume 2 is soooo fucking boring that it borders on unnecessary most of the time. Not to mention that Bendis always tied New Avengers and Avengers together (and really tightly) that I often found myself wondering: "What is the point of two Avengers books?"

Oh my god, that would be awesome.

edit: Wait, Black Science is over?! I haven't read the new issue yet, but damn.

ASM#1
  • I never really understood Black Cat and her kleptomania so I hope she gets taken down
  • Interesting and IMO good to see Peter not even bothering to explain himself to the Avengers. If they want to know whats up, they can ask.
  • Regardless of whether or not he succeeds, he seems pretty committed to the company which is nice

Yeah, I tried the first issue of Saga and couldn't get into it. Vaughn just seemed like he wanted to throw random stuff at the wall and see what stuck. It was this weird huge mishmash of aliens and sci-fi gobbledigook. Which might pay off over time, but I couldn't get pulled in and invested. Which was the great thing about his Y the Last Man, it felt so familiar and relateable that you were pulled in right from the beginning.

Anyone else ever wonder what Dan Slott would come up with if he did a creator-owned series at Image? Would it be better or worse than his work at Marvel?

I think it's safe to say that most of the biggest names in comics have written their best stories outside of Marvel/DC.

I liked Superior a lot, but I was so happy to see Peter again in ASM today.

Was entertaining enough, I'm really excited for the 2099 ongoing.
