lolwut? Referring to my weekly posts? I think they're anything but copy-n-paste, but ok. :^\ I try to be part of this thread even though I'm not one of the PSV-focused folks... Thanks.
Meanwhile, yes, there is a
new Drop. Let's go over it, shall we?
- Earth Defense Force 2025 (PS3) - This is the latest entry in the series that started as Monster Attack (or Chikyū Bōeigun) on the PS2 back in 2003. It's third person shooter sequel to Earth Defense Force 2017, and has been out since mid-2013 in Japan. The creatures featured are newer developments of the monsters in the 2017 game, and apparently it includes spiders -- therefore I will be staying clear. It's also getting a retail release, if you swing that way. (Not interested.)
- Forest Legends: The Call of Love (PS3) - This looks like a conversion of the hidden object adventure game created by Alawar Entertainment. That's previously come out on Windows and iOS, sometime in 2013 I think. Hidden object game? No thanks. Unsurprisingly, this is digital-only. (Not interested. This looks like part of the long-term decline of the PS3 -- getting quick conversions of cheap games on other systems.)
- Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry Standalone (PS3/PS4) - Originally released as single-player DLC for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, this has been converted to a standalone game. For you PSV fans, it was written by the same author who did Liberation (the game bundled with the white PSV back in 2012). It's set 15 years after the main Black Flag game, and follows a freed slave who faces the forces of the heartless slave trade in Saint-Domingue, where he is shipwrecked. (Might be interested. I'd like to see AC4 on my PS4, since I hear it's good looking and not bad to play either...)
- Strider (PS3/PS4) - Named for its main character, Strider Hiryu, this series has its origins in the arcade and NES back in 1989, adapted from a manga with the same name as the character. This is an arcade action side-scroller that I have read is a kind of rehash of the original game. We'll see. I'm waiting to hear what others say about it. It's digital-only. (Might be interested, but still stuck in TxK land right now...)
- Rayman Legends (PS4) - You played it on the
PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, and now you can play it all over again on the PS4! This is the latest platformer in Ubisoft's long-running Rayman series, which had its previous high point on the Atari Jaguar. Digital and retail, but honestly why would you buy it at retail? (Not interested.)
- Gunslugs (PSV) - Another hit adapted from the mobile world (in this case, iOS and Android and ... Blackberry!), this is a pixel-art, side-scrolling shooter that reminds me of (what I remember of) Quartet and Alien Hominid. Unfortunately, I don't think I need this. Olli Olli and TxK and (replaying) Gaucamelee has me covered on the PSV. Digital only, but then you knew that already since it's on the PSV. (Not interested.)
- Mr. Driller (PSV/PS3/PSP) - Hey, this is a classic I remember from the PS1 days! It began as an arcade game back in 1999 and was ported to about a billion platforms. Sequels have appeared on mostly Nintendo platforms (GBA, GC, NDS) but this is the PS1 version that came out in 2000. Basically, a block-drilling game which I remember reminding me of Tetris and Boulder Dash, back in the day. But then, I'm old and easily fooled by my faulty memory. (Not interested.)
- Tomba! 2 (PSV/PS3/PSP) - At long last, the sequel to the beloved Tomba! will be available here in the U.S. I'm pretty sure people have been asking for this PS1 game for a while, and I'm a little surprised it's listed as an import. The game was released at retail in the U.S., because I have a vague recollection that it was kind of rare and hard to find in the later PS1 years (early 2000s). (Not interested.)
- Neo Contra (PS3) - Another week, another PS2 classic. Sony's doing a pretty good job of doing this, although I'm not sure why it took so long to start pumping this out on the PS3. Makes me think they're getting them out to have them ready to run on the PS4 too. Anyway, this is a mostly-2D-with-a-few-3D-touches side-scrolling game in the same vein as previous Contra games. Also, its title is actually a pair of Latin prefixes, which I find amusing. (Not interested.)
Nothing for me this week, but I am still hopeful that there will be some update on Pinball Arcade tables for the PS4 version.
