Assume that it's faithful to the source material.
Assume that it's well directed and the actors all get good performances.

What anime and manga do you think could seriously work well in a live action Hollywood adaptation?

I for one think Death Note and Mirai Nikki would work phenomenally well as a serialize hour long drama.

There's already a live adaptation of Death Note. It's pretty decent.

As for what other anime/manga would work. I think Hellsing would translate pretty well, Cowboy Bebop (naturally), Full Metal Alchemist would work pretty well as a series, same goes for Samurai Champloo.

Berserk could work as a big budget HBO show. The budget would need to be HUGE though, like considerably bigger than Game of Thrones. And they probably would need to tone down some things.

Definitely Ghost in the Shell then.

I wouldn't mind seeing more fantasy works done (Berserk would be an insane choice; for better or worse).

Everything that does not require too much special effects and doesn't rely too much on anime slap stick. Seeing japanese live action, recreating the latter turns out pretty bad.

Eve no Jikan, Black Lagoon, Ghost in the Shell and Eden of The East were shows I could and would want to see see in a decent Live Action.

There's probably plenty, but the only one I can think of that wouldn't require tons of CG is Monster.

There's always talk of making a TV series or movie of it, but I haven't seen anything definite.

Blue Blazes can be done right. Just change the manga/anime setting to U.S. College setting with U.S. comic book/animation involve. Still would be fun comedy series if they find the right comedic actors. Doesn't have to really be based on real people though it would be cool if they can have people base it on someone who was trying to get into the comic industry during their time in college.

I personally would never trust Hollywood to ever produce a quality adaptation of an anime or a manga.

That said, i would love to see a western live action adaptation of Memories of Emanon.

Monster would work great as a TV thriller.

I mean, Guillermo del Toro is making one, last I heard.

It just takes time to get things like this moving, but I saw an article only a couple months back where he talked about the HBO pilot for it he's working on.

The first arc of Attack on Titan is pretty much a Hollywood blockbuster movie.

I think a miniseries or something of the sort would be good for Thermae Romae.

Cowboy Bebop
Psycho Pass
Wolf's Rain
Tokyo Ghoul
Akira
Ghost in the Shell
Votoms
Macross
Guyver (a new film with modern tech would be amazing)

Just off top.

There have been rumors floating around about a Hollywood Death Note live-action movie with Gus Van Sant directing. Apparently Warner Bros has the rights and they wanted to change a bunch of stuff (of course). Namely, removing shinigami and changing Light into someone looking for vengeance instead of justice. Sounds bad all around, but this was before Van Sant was on board so hopefully he'll stay true to the source material.

As others have pointed out, Guillermo del Toro is working on a Monster series for HBO which I'm REALLY looking forward to. That show would be perfect for del Toro and HBO.

Monster is supposedly in the works by the BBC Sherlock guys and Guillermo Del Toro.

I already know who I want to play as Dr. Tenma. Keanu Reeves. Finding a Johan is going to be Tough though. Same with Grimmer.

Shouldn't Dr. Tenma be an Asian guy. I mean, its sort of like integral to the plot that he's the only Asian guy in a sea of white people.

Guyver (a new film with modern tech would be amazing)

it still blows my fucking mind that a film which was

- direct to video
- a hollywood adaptation of a manga
- a sequel to a shitty movie

ended up being a pretty damn competent adaptation.

The even bigger mystery is how there's never been a Guyver game, not even some generic 90s sidescroller. Modern one
with David Hayter
please.
