A woman in the UK was severely injured Monday after she asked a stranger to stop groping her and he punched her in the face.

Mary Brandon, 22, was attending the Notting Hill Carnival in West London when she says a man in the crowd assaulted her, the Telegraph reports. Brandon described the incident in a Facebook post Tuesday:

At Notting Hill Carnival yesterday a man in the crowd grabbed my arse. When I told him not to he did it again. I pushed him away, exercising my right to tell a man to stop touching my body without my permission, so he took a swing at me and punched me in the face.
She also posted a photo of her injuries, which she said landed her in the hospital for nine hours.

It's pretty fucking gruesome

“A woman should be able to leave the house without fear of being sexually assaulted,” Brandon’s Facebook post continued. “And she should be able to defend herself without being put in hospital.”

Brandon’s friend, 22-year-old Rebecca Hammerton, attended the Carnival with Brandon and said her friend had only been at the event for 15 minutes when the assault occurred.

“After she pushed him away he started walking off and then a couple of people were laughing, which we think damaged his ego,” Hammerton told the Evening Standard. “He walked back and swung round and punched her in the face with a right hook punch, using the force of his whole body.”

Hammerton also noted that the man didn’t seemed “really calm” as he made the punch.

Scotland Yard is investigating the incident. No arrests in the case had been made as of Wednesday.

Yo, fuck this planet.

That's horrible :(

I just.. cant... :( It's terrifying that saying NO can bring about such grievous harms.

... ugh. feeling a bit sick now.

Should have kicked him in the junk or something. Anyone forcibly grabbing you is probably not going to take too kindly to any words telling them to stop.

Also damn that injury photo. That's from a single punch??

Yep that'll do it. Strange (or not) how people laughing probably turned him calling her a bitch or something into a punch to the face.

Are guns legal in the UK? A gun would have been useful in this situation.

"A woman should be able to leave the house without fear of being sexually assaulted".

That means, they shouldn't have to carry guns all the damn time, not to mention it would have escalated the situation pointlessly.

Aren't carnivals... crowded or something too? Typical bystander effect.

Happened to my girlfriend. Same exact thing pretty much except not at Nottinghill Carnival.

She has 4 fake teeth because of it and they never caught the guys.

That's awful! :( What the hell, people....

... how are women supposed to feel at ease when going out?? >__<

TASERS

TAZERS FOR ALL

Say no to guns.

also the dude was prolly a druggy

Do you feel at ease when you go out?

I don't.

Then again, I generally don't tell people off when they grope me. They might get offended and punch me in the face, and I'd like to keep all my teeth. I just move away as far as I can.

Yeah, it sucks that the world is like this for us chicks, but it's not going to change anytime soon. Just look at all the people (men and women) that claim cat-calling is okay. With that sort of attitude, it's not surprising that some of those folk think they have a natural right to "express" their "appreciation" with their hands as well.

BSB, has groping happened to you before?

I've got friends that roll out with knives and whatnot in quick access, so this is no surprise to me. I just hope statements as such reach some of the thicker headed people. Sucks to have to live that way, but yo society. :(

Nooooooo

I dont feel safe at all. I've let people hug me or pull me close to sniff into my hair just cuz I'm afraid what else they will do if I'm not letting them do little things and then I'm afraid if I let them do little things what other things will follow.... It's like going out at night on your own = risking safety. And that's fucked up.

It's like, wtf people. How is it so hard NOT to be a terrible person >___<

Yeah, catcalling entitlement really denotes the underlying problem about how women are still perceived in the mainstream society :<

She is a tough girl, and has probably gotten stronger for it because of the incident. However, she does get pissed every now and then about having to replace her teeth in a few years. Usually when she is flossing or brushing her "teeth"/ Basically she has a reoccurring bill for the rest of her life while the guy who punched her and groped her gets off free. Mostly because the UK police were also to lazy to do their job.

I've heard it's best to kind of avoid Notting Hill Carnival nowadays. Never been myself.

I went years ago. Its alright during the day, but you have to be on your guard and probably best to go sober. There is no way I would stay there when it gets dark though, whole different place. I wouldn't go back though, its probably gotten worse over the years.

Notting Hill Carnival is beyond shit and lol @ people asking if guns were legal in the UK.

Even if they were and she used one, carnival is usually so stacked that you literally cannot move, you're stuck between hundreds of thousands of people.

Took me about an hour to try get out of the crowd last year.

.

Im glad that she's dealing with it so well! I dont think I'll be as strong, to be honest ... so props to her !

Recurring bills sucks though :< Specially due to assault.
