How much support could we get for an XBL Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Tournament?

Fork 'em, Sparky!
I have been thinking this past month while playing 3rd Strike religiously for the first time in years that this is still the greatest fighting game of all-time. I bought SFIV right when it came out and never really got into it. I have played dozens of other fighting games over the years from all major players, but nothing floats my boat like 3S. Since release to the current date, I would be undercutting it by saying I have played it thousands of hours.

The cast of characters, the variation between each shoto, the best-in-class parry system, all of the various combos, the music, the beautiful hand-drawn sprites with deliciously detailed animation, etc. It is the complete package.

Unfortunately, when it came out, I was taking a pseudo sabbatical from gaming. It wasn't until Foxy Fox 39 PMed me and told me that I should look into buying it again on XBL at the end of June that I started playing it again.

This was years after it had been rereleased, so I had little hope that there would be legitimate competition still online. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are still many people playing every day. Sure, you will run into the same person frequently (especially ufcgym, who I am shocked has not been banned for his shenanigans...), but there is a deep enough variety of player to get some decent matches every night, (even when multiple people refuse to play you after you green bar them a handful of times and they rage-quit, followed by an angry message in which they call you a cheater. LOL.)

THAT being said, the Community thread is a ghost town and I want to play the best of the best of GAFfers who have a copy of the game and XBL Gold at their disposal.

I was thinking a tournament would be the perfect opportunity to accomplish that. I could put up some prizes for the top X place finishers. Games would need to be scheduled between each player, so some level of personal responsibility would need to be exercised, but it would definitely be to each player's benefit to play each match. The matches could be spread out over a 3 days window across a months time, or whatever, in order to allow each player enough time to get their matches in.

If this took off, we could even have other tournaments with a registration "fee" that would go to a Paypal account and then be dispersed to the winners at the end of each tourney.

I would be willing to work up brackets, tournament ground rules, and logistics if anyone is interested.

The game is currently on sale on Xbox Live for less than $5.00!! Even if you aren't necessarily interested in a tournament, add me on XBL and we can play some games at your leisure. My gamertag is AlteredBeastGAF and I will even take it easy on you, if you so desire!

I will be heading online for a few hours tonight in about 15 minutes, hope to see you there.

I'd be down but I only have it on PSN, sorry.

Maybe I should get a PS3 and a. Copy of this game? :)

I wonder how good the competition is on PSN?

Regardless, I am going to set this XBL tournament up and see how it goes. Hopefully, people will even just sign up for the prizes... My intent is obviously to win the tournament so as to not lose anything, but we will see! Lol

Im down. Altered destroys me but it's always fun lol.

edit: and if you have prizes maybe you should have 1st 2nd 3rd depending on the number of registrants so it doesn't seem weird that you set prizes only to win them yourself lol.
