Back Nothing To Hide here
---
A Story of Insecurity In Security
In this anti-stealth game, you're forced to help with your own surveillance. Act like you're always on stage. A fake smile for the camera. If you can't hide who you are... you have to hide who you really are.
- The game is a satire of our own self-surveillance, as expressed in both in the puzzle mechanic & story.
- The puzzle design is curious and challenging, but fair. Think Braid or the original Portal.
- The entire game's code and art is open source, under the Creative Commons Zero public domain dedication.
- The game is built in HTML5. Open web standards!
- 10% of the campaign goes to digital rights groups. (EFF, Demand Progress, Mozilla, Creative Commons, Press Freedom Foundation)
- The crowdfunding mechanism in unique: "Your pledge is claimed in parts over time. You only give your full pledge when I finish the full project."
- The crowdfunding site accepts bitcoin.
The puzzle mechanic is to move around these iEye cameras in such a way that you're *always* seen by an iEye as you get through the level.
The game was actually originally going to be a survival horror, believe it or not. "Nothing To Hide, Nothing To Fear." After a while I realized that I couldn't come up with either a good story or mechanic for horror, but accidentally stumbled a good puzzle mechanic for it! And luckily, any game mechanic about "line of sight" definitely works well in a story about "surveillance".
Pledging
You only give your full pledge when I finish the full project
Your pledge won't be claimed all in one go. Instead, I only claim part of your pledge for each milestone I hit, like so:
You can cancel your pledge at any time. Because I also update openly on my progress, I will be kept transparent & accountable.
- 25% claimed if this initial campaign succeeds (March 2014)
- 25% claimed when I reach the alpha version (estimate: June 2014)
- 25% claimed when I reach the beta version (estimate: Sep 2014)
- 25% claimed when the game is finished (estimate: Dec 2014)
