Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.

Aliasing proves they're not bullshots so looks really impressive! Graphical leap might not be that big from 2 to 3 but they're going from fairly linear to full open-world so if they can even maintain the fidelity they had in 2 I'll be happy.

The fact that this game is still ~9 months away (assuming a ~mid-2014 release) is just depressing.

also Geralt needs more beard, like this:

and not like this:

Please have far better combat than 2/essentially throw out all those old janky systems. I want to like you Witcher series!

Lovely mood and atmosphere from the screenshots!

Any idea if the game still running on DX9 mode? I noticed any game engine that utilize DX10 and higher as their base (e.g. Sleeping Dogs, Just Cause 2) runs much more better than DX9 renderer. The Witcher 2 still looks beautiful and managed to get some impressive looking shader through DX9 though.

I hope they still let us turn off the sharpen filter.

Other than that, there are some incredible shots there, some look like concept arts.

The others suffer from the sharpening.

So, I too don't like the new armour. I don't like the way it hugs his body, like a weird leather/chainmail wetsuit. And I don't like how it's so simplistic and one tone over the entire body, compared to the armours of The Witcher 2 which had a lot of variation between boots, pants, belts, jackets, shirts, hoods, and trinkets on a single suit. But given I expect plenty of armour variations, like The Witcher 2, I doubt it will be "default" for long, so I'm not concerned.

Sharpening is a non-issue for me as if it's anything like The Witcher 2 it will be effortless to turn off. And, to be honest, sharpening is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. Hated it in Crysis 3, liked it in The Witcher 2 (well, sometimes).

The only other thing that jumps out to be is the hair, particularly on the horse's head, and from what we've seen of NPCs so far. It's using that same layered method that most games use because hair tech fucking sucks, and to me it just looks really obviously fake and plastic. But I also understand hair tech is a nightmare and very difficult to get right, so I'm not too concerned.

Otherwise, the only real thing I'd note to the team is to watch the bump/normal map they use on the horse's body. I've spent many, many years around horses and it's incredible how many games totally get them wrong, at least the way lighting falls on their coat, opting for a traditional bump/normal shader that shadows the body. Really, the fur should have a slight shine/shimmer. Otherwise you get a look that makes the horse's coat look like it's a solid object, as if the horse itself is made of non-organic material. For reference, The Last of Us got it basically perfect, to my surprise, as it's one of the most properly "authentic" looking horses I've seen in a game.
