Gamescom - English Pokémon X & Y Demo footage

Looks phenomenal.

Hope you can still turn off battle animations though. Battles look slow for end-game or just training.

there's too much text during battle. they should learn how to visualize damage, effectiveness, misses/critical, etc.

don't tell; show.

A wild Pikachu just like that? I hope that's in the final version. It would be awesome to be able to get a Pikachu right off the bat.

People aren't complaining about it yet but I'm guessing that several months after the game is out, we'll start seeing complaints about how battles load so slow and how it takes so long for a battle to start.

Just like every previous time we started a new generation. Slightly disappointed that battle loading looks like it takes longer than in B2W2. But I'm willing to accept that for awesome THREE DEE

Someone did a comparison and it's pretty much the same

The movement around the overworld looks really fast, that might make playing older gens harder. Shame about that loading out of battles though.

Regular Mewtwo looks so much cooler. :/

Ugh....

I saw Mewtwo, he was about to do something cool, then BAM! uggo Newtwo ruins the day.

Well, least normal Mewtwo looks cool in this.

That 2-second waiting time before the menus (fight/bag/etc.) come up on the touchscreen, and the 4-second black screen after each encounter are concerning.

Yeah, they're redoing the cries and instead of revamping Pikachu's, they seem to have given it its anime cry

It's a real shame they haven't done that across all of the other Pokémon, although I can imagine the volume of work that would require.

Hell no. Having anime voices for the Pokémon would be horrible. Japanese ones perhaps, but the English ones are typically horrible.

They're redoing classic Pokémon though, recording from the PGS have Mewtwo and Crobat having updated cries to bring them up to the quality of Gen 4 & 5s

Pokemon actually saying their own name as a form of communication was always really damn stupid anyway. Keep that shit out.
I thought the reason for doing it in the anime was to reinforce the name for marketing reasons. Then again some were too badass to do this with (Charizard roars)...

Regarding cries I guess the Factor 5 work will never be revisited (I would use the argument it should not as the 8-bit sounds are iconic like the Dragon Quest menu sound effects but then anime Pikachu makes me feel that argument is not right either).

With the Japanese anime, for the most part they manage to do it so it still sounds like an animal or creature making the noise, but it sounds like their name. Whereas in the dub, it sounds like it's a person saying the name

Oh yeah, no more same "Go! Name!" dialog!

I don't know what's up with that 2 second delay from when both pokemon are released and when the bottom menu screen shows up.
Seems to be the demo thing, since the 2vs2 match didn't show any delay. I hope that's the case.

I want it now with that bulky Sylveon D:

Seemed everybody was saying how fast you move in the underworld, but now I see it and it's like JESUS I AM MOVING AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT

...Well, it is pretty darn fast. Wonder if it's just for the demos?

I always thought they named the pokemons in universe after the sound they make or something.
Most of them don't even utter their names.

With that said, outside of Pikachu they should really just be growls like what Gen IV onwards did with the cry.

I hope this issue is limited to the demo versions, which are apparently older builds of the game.

I mean, the 3ds is a decent piece of hardware, and the games are all stored on flash memory...why would there be such prominent loading times?

Man, the battles look so good. As far as I am concerned, Pokémon Stadium 3 just became obsolete.

Forget that. Talking Pikachu's? Yellow is the game that became obsolete just now!

I'm loving all the animation overworked hard terms are displaying in that video. It's really gonna make the world feel more alive when characters emote and stuff. I can't wait to see more. :)
