Alright hear me out - a lot of us have experienced apartment life. Noisy neighbors, bullshit like that. I'm not here to talk about that problem, because I don't have it. My problem is...weirder.

I live in a 3 story apartment, with 2 apartments on the north and south on each floor - making 12 different apartments in one building. I'm on the third floor, on the north side (not that it matters) - and with the exception of one guy (I've been here 2+ years) I've NEVER met or SEEN my neighbors.

When I first moved in, I saw people come and go - move in, move out in 6 months or even less, etc. It wasn't until about 2 weeks ago I realized nobody appears to live here except one person and me and my roommate.

We have a dog, I take her out pretty often - and I only see one dude in the apartment building. Big shits, right? Well, this one dude, I've seen going in and out of multiple other apartments in the building. It's like there's NOBODY else living in my apartment building except this guy, and he apparently rents all the rest of them? I honestly don't know. That wouldn't make any SENSE. And I am absolutely sure it is the same guy. I've never spoken with him, but I've seen him coming and going all the time, everywhere else.

We all have visible balconies - all of them, save mine, is empty. We all have a window leading to one bedroom that's easy to get to, next to the door - and my roommate sleeps there. The dog went nuts at about 3am last night, and she goes nuts when people are around. So someone was right outside of her window.

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being running for the hills, how freaked out should I be? I'm going to casually ask the apartment office if the same person is renting the rest of the entire building or what. I'm tempted to do nothing, but it's too freaky at this point and I have to know the truth. I know most people would KILL for a silent apartment building - but I hope this dude doesn't.

EDIT:

The short answer? Den of swingers, but the guy renting them is in charge of the apartments and apparently the swingers in his club think he's too creepy and don't want to go to a fuck building.

dude just grow a pair and ask the 'neighbor' next time you see him if he rents all the apartments... simple enough to just attempt a conversation with a human being.

probably a drug dealer

rents the rooms for growing

That's a good point. Doesn't make me feel better. What if they're all meth labs? Kaboom.

HELL NO BRAH

Especially if he was at the window! Fuck! No way!

Could be a live-in maintenance guy.

My roommate knows the two maintenance dudes, it's not that for sure. I'll find out tomorrow at the office.

it could be the groundskeeper.

anyways, alot of people moved back into their parents house after the tough economic times. congrats on having an apartment

Why would you have to casually ask? Just ask if it's got you concerned.

Or an even bigger revelation, talk to the guy when you see him! Worst case scenario, your fears are right and he kills you.

Better than making stuff up and being paranoid.

There's no way I'll talk to the dude! Maybe I'll need to be silenced!

I would talk to him had the window shit not happened. I didn't think much of it before, but now...I dunno.

I give it a danger level of 4, not that creepy but if the guy looks intimidating and you wouldn't start a conversation with him then a 8

I don't understand this window configuration you're talking about. How is somebody outside your window on the 3rd floor?

See, it's not so difficult to describe a situation without using the phrase "legit shook".

Him going in and out of other apartments is strange.

It's weird that you never see anyone else. My mom lives in one of those gated apartment communities in Austin and because of how new it was, she's like the only person I ever see when I visit her. Like in an area of maybe 100 apartments, I'd say 10 of them are lived in. It's kinda weird because you walk around this huge area and there is nobody to be seen, day or night. Nobody in the club house on the weekends, only a couple lone cars space out in the parking lot.

I'm like 6'7" and look like a terror. He's definitely not intimidating.

I'll do some shitty art.

My apt is on the left.

*Shakes fist*

dog couldve been barking at anything. the apartments are probably empty and someone checks in on them

The possibility entered my mind, but we have limited parking and I should probably add to the OP, we have about siiiiix? cars out front that never move. Adding to the weirdness.

this picture really helps! ~_~

I did my best!

Wow, I'm in the same situation. There's only one guy in my building and he looks like a total freak. Whenever I see him he's walking his annoying dog who was barking all night long and kept me awake last night.

That is sorta strange, maybe the other units are being used for storage or something? Like the owner needs storage more than he needs rent from the units? That'd be strange, but not unheard of.

Edit : Lol prez

I dont get it where is this window that standing in front of it means death scare to you? It is the window a 3rd story window with a sheer drop on the other end, or a normal window in a hallway anyone can walk by?

Just ask... whats the WORST that could happen, he tells you to mind your own business?

I've been in similar buildings.
Usually it's due to an owner turning apartments into condos/selling building.

Hopefully that's the case, or something that isn't a drug tycoon. Either way I'll find out in about 12 hours. If it's one dude renting them out and he is growing pot or whatever, fine - live and let live. Of course there's no way for me to know that, but if it's the same dude registered for all of them it won't be a big deal. I like a quiet apartment.

You can't get to the window without being on my doorstep, and nobody passes by - it's at the end of the walkway. You don't come up there by accident, basically. Unless someone did. I'm not really TOO concerned about it, but someone DID steal our little statue we kept out at the door. Maybe it was damn kids.

Based on your picture I find it entirely possible that the dog heard the guy coming up the shared stairs. He could have been nowhere close to the window.

is this a jab at Disco :(

OP just go knock on all the other doors and see who answers

I did this on a whim a few days ago, no answer - but I didn't knock on ALL others, just two. I'll find out what's what tomorrow.
