BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - Idaho Fish and Game has confirmed that campers who found a lost puppy outside of Ketchum back in May found an actual wolf.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says the puppy was taken to a local veterinarian who thought the puppy might actually be a wolf pup.

Zoo officials are compiling a list of facilities accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums that would be suitable for the pup.

The pup is gaining weight and his health is improving.

Fish and Game says it spent the next few days searching for a wolf pack in the area to return the pup, but couldn't find any sign of one.

Fish and Game says took a blood sample from the pup. Biologists earlier this year said that there are between 500-600 wolves roaming throughout the state.

Defenders of Wildlife has put some video of the pup on YouTube. You can watch it below

Wolf pu.. IT'S SO CUTE!

I will take him and call him Montgomery and pet him and feed him and play with him and love him forever.

He totally looks sad in the video, almost as if the knows he should be out doing wolf stuff, like howling at moons and fighting liam neeson.

Hopefully they find a pack to introduce it to, or a zoo to take it. An ex-gf of mine had a wolf, they don't make very good pets.

Any stories? I'm curious as to what it's like attempting to raise a wild animal like a wolf. I hear that people who attempt to raise foxes often regret it.

Whatever you say, Joffrey.

Hahaha!

The wolf wasn't very much different from a dog, but you could definitely tell she was a wild animal. She acted a bit more skittish that a normal dog (kind of like the pup in that video). I would never trust her around kids, that's for sure.

She howled every morning, which was really irritating. Her fur was different from any dog's fur I've ever felt, it always felt greasy and dirty. She wasn't fixed, which caused a bunch of other problems with her running away or dogs trying to bang her (I've never owned a non-spayed female dog, so I'm not sure if those problems are common.)

There were some cool things about her though. She was playful once she got comfortable around you, even if that took a while. If the howling didn't bother me while I was trying to sleep, it could have been cool. It just seems like everything I liked about her was more present in a dog. Just get a damn dog. Haha

At some point, a neighborhood dog (lab, I think) got her pregnant and she had a bunch of pups. We gave them all away. I haven't talked to my ex in a while, but I wonder if she knows how they turned out.

There was a BBC documentary called "The Secret Life of the Dog" or something like that, that was studying the origins of dogs and how they were once most likely a breed of wolf and they went into how untrainable modern wolves are to dogs. They even showed some people who were fostering wolf pups and they seemed much more disobedient.

Well, if our governor had his way the pup would probably be dead since he loves to keep the ranchers on his side.

Most likely?

Yeah. We were never able to train her, and we'd both owned dogs before. She was not agressive though, so it was more just annoying than anything else.

Do you guys still have Butch Otter? Feel sorry for you, guy's a dumbshit.

(I used to live/grew up in Boise, but left four years ago)
