Indie Gala 3: Trapped Dead, Greed Black Border, Grotesque Tactics, and more (PWYW)

Note to everyone considering Indie Gala 3:

Twin Sector is like Portal if there were no portals and the physics sucked and everything else sucked and it was made by a rough-around-the-edges Eastern Euro team. I can't speak for Grotesque Tactics, but you do NOT want to raise the amount of money you pay just to get Twin Sector :p

Why oh why don't these guys separate bundle premiers from other major bundles?

I think at this point we have the HIB, which is huge and dwarfs everything in comparison, and the regular Indie Royale which focuses more on the dev side of things and does nicely with each new bundle. And then you have Indie Gala which seems like a direct lift of HIB, doesn't do much to differentiate itself, and has confusing rewards tiers and seemingly changes things on the fly.

I'm not sure why they chose to release the Gala after two almost back-to-back Indie Royale bundles and the Humble Bundle going on now. I get that it's hard to space it out sometimes, but man, they're shorting themselves sales. Not only that, but the revenue the Gala makes and the amount of devs they get involved with this thing really couldn't equal a very big payday for the devs. And once those devs are in the Gala bundle they're ineligible for future HiB/Royale bundles. Gah!

Ok, rant over. Had to get that off my chest. :p

Based solely on the preview trailer: what a great selection of games (that I'd not heard of previously.)

Am I right in assuming these are all Windows only? It doesn't say Mac OS X anywhere, so I'm assuming the worst...

keeping tabs on all these bundles has been quite annoying, considering there are only a few good ones.

Yep, and this is why I pretty much only get the HIBs. I picked up the last Gala more for the music than any of the games included, and it really seems like most of the bundles outside of the HIBs are "Uh, what forgotten indie games can we scrape from under the couch this month?"

I hate to be so cynical about it, but it really feels like being included in a Humble Indie Bundle is a bit of a point of pride, while being part of the Indie Gala is more along the lines of "Please, PLEASE, love us!"

Well they all redeem through Steam, so let's check Steam
Greed Black Border - No Steam Play logo
Future Wars - No Steam Play logo
Trapped Dead (50 metacritic) - No Steam Play logo
Twin Sector (49 metacritic) - No Steam Play logo
Grotesque Tactics (65 metacritic) - No Steam Play logo

So, nope, none of them will be OSX.

chubigans had two of his games in an Indie Royale bundle, so he's probably alluding to something in the bundle contracts which stipulate some measure of bundle exclusivity?

Honestly, for PWYW no minimum bundles, the only reason to avoid a bundle is if you literally have 0 interest in any games. Even if you have the slightest bit of interest, you could just pay $0.50 or whatever and get the bundle. Not that I'm advocating scamming the system or anything, your own conscience dictates what to pay, but I mean the option is there if you want it. I paid $1 for a few of the bundles because I had the faintest interest in one game and no interest in any of the others, but I pay $5+ to all the bundles I actually have an interest in.

This. I don't understand the "There is too many bundles" comments. It's like complaining that there are too many retailers offering too many deals.

Well all Royale bundles have had the tag of "not in a previous bundle" excluding the "lightning rounds" so I'd assume that's the case going forward.

When do we find out what 'friggin Gala Points do? Also all we need now is Be Mine 2 to launch early then its like an indie bundle multiball but not a game to play...

For not launching with music I'm paying less this time yet at the same time music is likely to be the bonus for paying more than the average so I still have to pay more than average. At least I hope I count as that given last times shenanigans (where people bought he second tier and got the first as they changed the goalposts).

Grotesque Tactics grossed (*sigh*) enough to get a sequel made so I guess from the value point is fairly worthless...

Edit: Galapoint for dollars are based on whole dollars. What is the point of gala points being in hundreds then (i.e. 100 points=$1=100c yet $1.50 would get you 100 points...)

Ouch at the Twin Sector metacritic score: the trailer makes the game look rather polished. Then again, Hydrophobia looked quite polished from the trailer too...

Still, bundle bought: I'll no doubt get a few dollars entertainment outta these.

This. I don't understand the "There is too many bundles" comments. It's like complaining that there are too many retailers offering too many deals.

I see the argument against it from the dev point of view -- that shoddy bundles contribute to maybe ruining the bundle concept for everyone, that the signal to noise ratio gets worse and it gets harder to promote good bundles when bad bundles are around -- but yeah, from a consumer point of view, what's out there is what's out there, ya might as well take advantage of it!

When do we find out what 'friggin Gala Points do?

I accidentally bought this IG on a different email than the previous two and momentarily said "Oh no! My Gala points!"... and then realized "Why the hell would I care about Gala Points?" hahahah.

Yup. I understand why people maybe feel a little crappy paying so little for a bundle, but if your interest is so low that you'd only be willing to pay 50 cents or so than it's more money than they'd get from you otherwise. I'm sure they'd much rather you play their games for 50 cents than not at all. And if you get surprised and like one or more games in it you can make up for the low payment by buying the next game from the developers.

As long as you aren't paying so little that you're costing them money, and when it's a Steam key I can't imagine the bundle costs are very high, it's fine to give a small amount if you're not that interested.

edit: Apparently the minimum for this one is $1.

A vast imporvement over the second Indie Gala! (By the way, I really dig that version of Around the World in the trailer)

I have Grotesque Tactics wishilsted on Steam, so I'll pick it... When there's a happy hour, of course.

What's the happy hour that some are referring to in here? May purchase this but the games all seem to be just "OK", no must haves really.

Last time they had happy hours whereby if you bought gift copies you got at least two. So essentially BOGOF. There might have been something else too...

I know someone found the 3 secret games in the Steam thread ages ago. It was in the Steam registry, but i can't find that post as to what it was.

Goddammit. I should have looked before just blindly buying that. I already bought the facekick one lol.

And all I wanted was grotesque tactics too, and I couldn't even be bothered to read that you had to beat the average. Woe is me.

Edit: what do I get with these indie gala points anyway. Looks like I have a ton.

Future Wars is a poor clone of Advance Wars without the fun and the whimsical personalities. But I guess you don't have many options if you want to play games like AW on your PC...

Honestly these appeal to me the same way as renting random NES games back in the day. Yeah, they're probably going to be kinda shitty, but for whatever reason it's interesting to give shit a try now and then. That said, I paid more than the average because the indiegala guys seem to have a good mind for selecting music partners.

Now, about Grotesque Tactics, all of the screenshots I have seen seem to not just have bloom, but it's almost like there is image doubling. It hurts my eyes to look at. Is there some way of turning that off?

I came close to buying Grotesque Tactics once, but I don't know - you go through all the trouble of making a SRPG for the PC, then make it a parody? SRPGs are so rare on the PC why not just make it a serious game?

It was mentioned in the last Indie gala thread, but I think it bares repeating. Check out the default split on this bundle. They have 20% going to the gala tip and only 10% going to charities. Sure, you can manually adjust it (and I suggest that you do). But supposedly most people don't. And the indie gala people know that.

Fucking slimy bastards.

So many indie bundles coming out nowadays, I stopped buying indie bundles a long time ago (I just have way too many games to play on Steam right now)

Fucking slimy bastards.

After reading through this thread, I'm coming to the conclusion that buying this bundle was a mistake. Bad games I can deal with, not every bundle is going to be amazing. But these weirdo policies that the organizers have... 'happy hour' where you can buy one and get one free sounds nice in theory but as an early adopter, it just makes me feel foolish. Some strange concept of gala points which they keep wanting you to 'earn' but they don't even tell you what you can use them for. It was okay in the last bundle where they had just initiated the idea, but by now they should outline a plan on what exactly they are going to do with it. If it turns out to be anything less than a price reduction on the next bundle, it's a complete waste of time. And finally this default split thing which is kind of creepy. One thing I'm glad about is that I split my money equally between devs and charity and gave them nothing. You won't believe how tricky it is to actually set the sliders to the above configuration. You can set the tip to zero and while you're moving around the other sliders it will increase by itself :\

I noticed it too. You have to do it the other way: equal tips for devs and charity, then zero tip.

With the Humble bundle, what touches zero stays zero.

In both cases, you can just edit the numbers.

That's pretty shitty. Especially considering they only give you Steam keys.

The gala tip does pay for the indie music...which there is usually quite a lot of (and honestly is the only reason to buy the bundle)...my order was still charity > developers > tip (normally developers and charity are other way round but with these games...).

Though the hosting cost of the music is well...they're on a box.com account so that could be as little as $15/month.

Double post whatever.

We have bonus content. Its a game:

Flatout.

For crying out loud...of all the games it could be it could be the one I own the sequel to and also the one I won in the Chirmstas coal coupon thing steam did. At least that copy is still sitting in my inventory (not that I'll be able to trade it for anything due to this bundle potentially saturating the market) so the key I got from this bundle has a use...

I hope the secret bonuses are better...than again everybody giving the gala tip a pittence probably means it won't be much...

Soon, maybe?
