Today, Nintendo released a new Firmware update for the Nintendo 3DS. Took a long time to download for me, about 5mn or so.

Bring the Firmware to 11.5.0-38, but no idea what it does just yet... support page isn't up to date yet.

Edit: JP support page only mentions "stability"... so yeah, bring on your GIFs, I guess.

I wonder if they added a new ways to trace homebrew. has anybody checked if the upgrade turned the "send information" thing on again?
From what I recall, a few people claimed that one of the earlier updates (before the ban wave) did something like that

Would the 3DS require a system update to allow for system transfers to the new 2DS XL? Or does the 3DS OS use thumbnail images to identify the various system iterations somewhere in the OS and they'd need to add a new 2DS XL image? Stuff related to the launch of the new 2DS XL are the only things I can think of.

system update required. this is probably to stop people from hacking the n2DS on day 1.

I suppose it's possible that the new firmware would allow it to detect if it's running on "new" hardware with the enhanced capabilities but still know to not display the Super Stable 3D calibration and stuff. Has anyone said what firmware New 2DS XL ships with and does it match this update?

AFAIK this doesn't patch any publicly known current exploits. It does break *hax payloads (probably by accident since the *hax payloads are kind of fragile due to their nature) but I think the updated payloads for N3DS are already out, O3DS payloads remains broken unless you're on a CFW (as they have been for several updates now)

The main purpose of this seems to be bringing the various system titles into line with the versions on the 2DS XL.
