An interview with one of Digimon's directors, Hosoda Mamoru has revealed that in the very first season of Digimon Adventure's ep.21, they tried to explore Tai and Kari's relationship that crossed the boundaries of normal sibling love.

So we can get incest but we can't even get ONE cannon gay love moment between Matt and Tai?

Yeah this. There was no indication of their love being more than brother and sister unless the US version really censored some nasty stuff.

That's what is said in the video, apparently the US editors went to town removing a bunch of those scenes and redubbings stuff...

this is insane

No.

... Don't tell me people do this shipping tumblr stuff with kids' shows as well.

Its mentioned in the video and it was censored out.

The interview is coming from Hosoda director of the first movie and episode 21.

Of course they do.

Heck, I discovered shipping through Pokemon, as an actual kid. Serebii's forums are actually the first place I ever encountered "shipping"

thanks joe, lmao.

I was unaware Tumblr invented shipping
I guess I'm old. But the only time I'm seeing "ships" are those posts on imgur that collect dump tumblr posts.

Don't tell me you're surprised.
I am! The first time I learned what shipping means was here on GAF in the Flash thread. Didn't think people would be invested in a show for kids like that. Are there little Pony ships? Do people ship ponies? Do I want to know the answer to that question? I don't know. The Internet was a mistake.

It's best if you leave this thread immediately and forget this ever happened

Kids Anime/Cartoons is usually where a lot of shippers started from. Avatar in particular is notorious for having some particularly loony ones.

A lot of shipping comes from teenagers, so it makes sense that the shows they watched as kids become ripe for discussion in that regard. At least for me, it was a pretty big part of growing up on the internet, except my things were Cardcaptor Sakura and Harry Potter.

Young, more like. Shipping (in the modern, fandom sense) goes back the the original Star Trek, fan magazines, pre-internet Kirk/Spock slash fiction.
