DEADBOLT, made by the same developers of Risk of Rain, is an extremely challenging stealth-action hybrid that allows you to take control of the reaper to quell the recent undead uprising. Play and complete missions given to you by the mysterious fireplace as you become the avatar of death. While the reaper has an impressive arsenal and skillset to kill the undead, he has one flaw - he dies in one shot... leaving you with no room for error.

  • Complete over 25 extremely challenging missions
  • Unlock and obtain over 30 weapons, ranging from a reaper's scythe to an automatic grenade launcher
  • Fight over 35 enemy types, ranging from zombies to vampires to bosses and more
  • Choose your playstyle: quiet assassin, loud one-man army, or anything in between
  • Gib them all! DEADBOLT's dynamic gore system guarantees that all evisceration leads to satisfaction
  • Choose your own way to complete a mission - no mission has to be completed in one way
  • Accomplish a variety of objectives, like assassinating gang leaders and investigating mysteries

I honestly still don't know exactly how this game works, but i'll pick it up when i'm home later today. Looks exciting enough for that price.

I would have called the OT Risk of Red Rain to clue people in that it's by the same devs.

Was this was inspired by Gunpoint? Or like Gunpoint, inspired by Yahtzee's The Art of Theft?

Is this the one where you can come out of toilets and kill people while they're taking a dump?

Yes.

This seems a lot like Gunpoint, in a good way.
Also, why no door puns/jokes for the OT title

part of the song's lyrics looks spot on

"Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared
(Saying, "Don't be afraid")"

ok, this game is super good. it's got the twitchy, heart-pumping action of a hotline miami and the smoothness and style of a gunpoint. the soundtrack is phenomenal

don't sleep on this gem, friends

Played, and loved, the tech demo for this a while ago. Stopped following the development though. This release is a very pleasant surprise. I'm in.

Hell yes, I knew this was coming out soonish but the release somehow still feels like it came outta nowhere. Will definitely grab it later today.

Will buy day one when it releases on Mac. I don't play that much on my PC at the moment and Hopoo already confirmed a Mac version down the line.

This is really cool so far. I like all the improvements from the alpha. I'm only on the sixth level, and each one has introduced something new to the mix. Shooting is pretty satisfying due to the ragdoll physics and blood splatter, and the gameplay is a nice mix of room-clearing violence and fast stealth through vents and shadows

No spoilers, but 'Lux in Tenebris' is my favorite level so far. Quite difficult. Not sure how to do it without at least one silenced weapon.

Was only able to play for about an hour today, music and art are godly. Its very challenging too, I only got upto the mission
where you have to nab the machine gun in the basement
, should be interesting to see speed runs.

36 deaths in Lux in Tenebris, but I got it. God what a pain in the ass.

Hah, 13 over here. Took me a little over half an hour to do. But the payoff of
sledgehammering all the dancing vampires
was the best.

This game is absolute fire. Perfect blend of challenge, strategy and kill feedback. On top of some really fantastic atmosphere/music, although that's no surprise coming off Risk of Rain.

Would've thought this thread would've been longer tbh. Don't sleep on this game, GAF.

The game is pretty tight mechanics-wise. Like that you can knock on doors to attract enemies,

I do wish you had more abilities at your disposal. I mean, you are a reaper

The first vampire night club level is kicking my butt. Is there a way to get more $$? Only unlocked the silenced SMG, a few pistols, knife, and hammer

Just got to this level. What's your strategy?

1. get the free kill on the vampire sitting on a toilet through the vent by the car.
2. Go back to the entrance, go into the first 'dance hall' and kill the 2 vamps in there.
3. Go up the stairs and kill the vamp on the couch with a throwing knife, immediately go back down stairs, grab the sawed off and wait for the other (now agroed) vamp to come down and kill him.
4. Go up to the top floor, kill the vamp there and grab the assault shotgun and use that (and the second one further on the same floor) to clear the huge bumrush that occurs once you fire that thing off at someone.
5. From there is pretty rudimentary.

Loadout: Primary - Death and Taxes Secondary - Knife

Whats preferable, the controller or the keyboard?
Keyboard/mouse only

Dev on the subject
The game requires both a. high speed precision, and b. position based aiming, not just angle based, so controller support gets really clunky gameplay-wise. I had controller support but I think the game played poorly with it, and that's why I took it out. Compared to a game like Hotline Miami, the game requires much higher precision for headshots, shooting out lights, etc. I could've left it in, but I thought that might be deceiving because the game is truly played best with the mouse. Hope that makes sense!

Yea I definitely wouldn't want to try this with a pad, you need to be both super precise and super fast.

Damn, that was tough. 20 deaths on lux in tenebris.

My strategy (loadout: tactical SMG and knife)
- Come in through the door on the right
- Take down female ceiling vampire with a knife throw, headshot the other when he drops
- Grab the shotgun, blast the vamp that comes downstairs to investigate
- Use the vents to drop behind the vamp still upstair, use the shotgun on him, use the SMG to take out the light. Switch out the empty shotgun for the regular SMG
- Wait for the vamp to investigate kill him
- Lure the vampire in the bathroom out and kill him. Go upstairs and shoot out the light. Swap out the almost empty tactical SMG for the combat shotgun.
- Lure the two vampires out and take cover. Use the SMG on the rushing vamps and then shotgun the ones that come up to investigate
- Swap out the SMG for the other combat shotgun, and then use the lure/shoot strategy on the remaining vamps to take them out with the shotgun as they come through doors.
- Use the hammer and sledgehammer on the remaining undead

at least 50% of my kills across the board are hammer kills

also still the only weapon i've purchased. i feel like having, say, a tommy gun at the beginning of each level would make things too trivial, so i'm trying to work with what the level gives me as much as possible

Wow, I have zero fucking clue how to beat the timed mission. Once I
destroy all the ash totems, there's just a fucking army of those sledgehammer skeletons standing at my car.

It won't. Limited ammo means you want to converse your big guns for the right moments.

sure it will. the level is the level. you'll always get the same guns from the level (and you can beat them without bringing in any weapons of your own) so the weapons you bring along in the beginning are the cherry on top. it certainly impacts how challenging the beginning of a stage will be if i just bring a hammer or if i bring a tommy gun which i would never have otherwise.

'trivial' is obviously an exaggeration but i'm enjoying seeing the extra layer of design (which doesn't presuppose any weapon purchases) in action

that said, the main gimmick of the
vampire missions
is extremely smart in this regard since you
have to destroy the jars which are sometimes placed in a deeper part of the level, anyway, to finish off the enemies for good

Ended up wrapping this up tonight.

I got nothing but love for this game. Such an immense amount of variety between missions, characters and weapons and all in a nice little beefy package(ended up clocking in just under 8 hours when all was said and done). The level design in particular was phenomenal. So many asspulls you can make to turn shit around, so many ways it could go bad. I'm a big fan of Hotline Miami 1/2, but those games frankly ain't even playin' in the same league as this game as far as I'm concerned.

And that music/atmosphere. Gawd.

Finished.

The last few missions were dope, especially
the sniper one

That was a real fun mixup. I also really appreciated the mission with the
paranoid skeleton with wired bombs/shotguns.
Nice change of pace to play something that was more puzzle-like rather than sweat the encounters.
