jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action

I'm a big fan of podcasts & horror, so when this popped up in the top 10 iTunes list recently I gave it a shot. I listened to the first episode, thoroughly enjoyed it and figured GAF would too. Each episode is about 20 minutes, with the creator explaining the history of a specific piece of horror. The production values are great, with an atmospheric soundtrack to back his storytelling. I can see why it got so popular so quick.

Bonus Podcasts!

Be sure to check out The Black Tapes Podcast. Occult horror meets Serial:

Taking place in the same universe as TBT, there is a mystery unfolding. What is Tanis?

Also check out Limetown, a 7-part sci-fi horror podcast.

Hopefully better than the Reddit jawn. Tried listening to it after marathon listening to Sword and Scale and but the ham was too much.

I love horror so this sounds great. Thanks for the heads up

Hawaiian ghost stories would be pretty fertile content ground for a podcast like this.

Found out about Lore about a week or two ago and listened to the last two episodes. It didn't really catch me like Criminal, The Truth, and True Story did. Not sure what it was about it

I've listened to this since I saw it pop up a little while ago...I'm kinda undecided. I mean, it's good, and I won't remove it from my subscriptions, but there's just something about his delivery--the "dramatic" pauses, things like that, that makes me roll my eyes several times throughout an episode.

Interesting topics, though. The background music is great.

I like this, it's good. Any other podcast recommendations?

depends on what you're looking for

my favorite podcast of all time is How Did This Get Made?

it's basically mystery science theater 3000 in podcast form with hilarious comedians. i suggest listening to an episode from a movie you've seen before:

i kind of like it, and i have a feeling he's really new to this so i can see his style sharpen up over time

I made an OT last week if a mod can merge them.

i got you, b

Thanks. Love the podcast so I was disappointed my thread didn't get any traction.

Lore sounds awesome. Will add it to my rotation.

If you like smart comedy and satire, listen to Sean Clements and Hayes Davenport's Hollywood Handbook. They're also responsible for the Thank God It's the Guardians of the Galaxy Original Soundtrack podcast (T.G.I.G.O.T.G OST - February 6).

Thanks for the tip. Been listening today while out walking. Wishing there were more episode out now.. almost finished them all. :(

Thanks for the recommendations, I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I've been getting into them lately and just wanted recommendations in general.

First episode didn't catch my attention. Production is top-notch though. Going to give it another episode or two.

Okay, I've listened to the first two episodes and I've got the next two spooled up.

I love it. Mahnke is a great narrator, especially for someone who is new to the game. The stories are fascinating with a tinge of unease. While the first one was okay, The Bloody Pit (Episode 2) was great. The music playing throughout is a great touch. Really gives it a moody, atmospheric feel.

I'll keep listening.

Agreed. I've listened to the first three episodes, and I'm really enjoying it. Bloody Pit has been the best episode so far. Refreshingly different format to other podcasts I subscribe to. Will keep listening.

Added to my subscriptions to check out soon. Really gotten into podcasts in the last year or so. This is something different though so hopefully I enjoy it.

glad to see some people who like it!

not surprised to see some crossover from comicGAF, it's got a little pulpy feel to it despite being true-life

You know what really grinds my gears? The word "biweekly." Its inherently ambiguous because it can mean either every two weeks or twice a week. They are used the same way and are interchangeable within a sentence, but mean wildly different things.

I swear thats like the english language in a nutshell lol

There are a lot of English words that have dual meanings, but usually there is a contextual clue as to what meaning is intended (since often a sentence will make no sense unless you interpret a word a specific way). But here, it's like saying "Let's set up a meeting tomorrow" but "tomorrow" means either 15 minutes from now or two weeks from now.

fortnightly?

This problem exists with "biannual" as well, although that ambiguous phrase can be made less ambiguous by saying "biennial" if you mean every two years."

i enjoy this show as much as i dislike the word "bi-weekly"

Yeah, I've been listening to this for the last few weeks. It's very good. Do not listen by yourself at night time. :D

that's the best time to listen

or on a walk at night with the dog

Some who like Lore may enjoy this podcast.

The difference is listeners send in their personal ghost stories and Lex reads most of them, but listeners can read their own and Lex does all sound effects and music.

Lex is also pretty masterful at creating creepy music.

Interesting stories but I wish he would cut back on his commentary.

"maybe we were the monsters all along"

Ugh.

Well, I guess the idea he's blending the story-telling/narration with the folklore so it's like he's telling us a campfire story.

I found it a bit silly at first, but I've grown to like it.

Heh, small world! I just started listening, myself. Loved the "Woods" episode while taking a nighttime walk two days ago. It's fun and quick.

I also started listening to "Nightmare Magazine". Lots of good stuff to listen to lately.
