FreezeME |KS| A colorful 3D platformer inspired by N64 classics (PC, Wii U)

Kickstarter | Trailer | Site
FreezeME is a 3D platformer in the style of the N64-era but wait there is a twist! “R” the main character, has one special tool – the camera around her neck. This camera allows her to literally freeze the objects she photographs.

Glad this is coming to Wii U, it looks really good. I might have to back this, since I can't have too many 3D platformers in my life.

Fuck yeah!!!

Count me in no matter what, i am currently playing through Grow Home on PC and it's SO awesome that i will try out pretty much ANY new 3D platformers just to support the genre even though i have very limited gaming time nowadays!

Backed.
This has always been one of the more promising projects when indie 3d platformers get brought up in gaf threads, I hope it gets funded!

Ugh. Why WiiU? I dont have a wii u.

I want this.
I imagine that more consoles might be potential stretch goals
Additionally, we are hoping to release FreezeME on more consoles in the future.

Since the game is being developed on Unity, it should not be difficult to port it to PS4 or Xbox One - given the opportunity.

Please note, though, that we are only focusing on the Wii U and PC releases for this Kickstarter and we are not able to promise anything for the other consoles - so stay tuned and cross your fingers for future updates!
Anyway the dev's on NeoGAF so I imagine he could answer any questions

So there's:

  • FreezeME
  • Happy Hell
  • A Hat In Time
  • Lobodestroyo
  • Project Ukulele
  • (Maybe) Banjo-Threeie

Am I missing any?

Viva la 3D Platformer!

Oh fuck yes. The more 3d platformers the better.

And having a console release is better than no console release, so bring that Wii U version

Haha, the protagonist looks like what Edna Mode would look like if she were younger. Love it.

That said, the movement physics look a bit off. I'll wait to see other people's impressions of the game first.

No stretch goals.
Very last line of the Kickstarter said:
As you can see, we don´t have any stretch goals. We know what is left to do and the time needed for that, and we don’t want to add any uncertainties to the equation.
Kind of refreshing, actually.

I can't remember what it's called, but there's a really cool upcoming 3D platformer where you can change the environment or something similar. I don't think it's any of the ones you mentioned. Sorry, I can't remember what it's called.

Scale?

Don't know if I'd count it as a platformer, but it looks really cool :)

I like how somehow kickstarter is basically going through the video game era motions, we had tons of notable NES platformer games from it, some SNES/Genesis type stuff, now we got N64 3D platformers outta the wazoo.

I imagine next we'll start to see a wave of Playstation era games.

Probably Olivia & Spike. That's an older GIF though, the game has gone through some visual changes since

As for 3D platformers, I'm most excited about Hover

Oooh Hover! Forgot about that.

Didn't Olivia & Spike get picked up by Amazon Games Studio? Or am I misremembering?

That deal fell through. Game is still development though. The devs actually just released Shiftlings, so I imagine they'll be focusing on O&S now

I know they address it in the kickstarter, but 15k still seems pretty low.

They also don't say if they have already talked to Nintendo and if yes, if they have a dev kit or not. This is a very basic thing that should be talked about in my opinion.

Another thing they don't talk about, which is a lot bigger thing in my opinion, is the team. There are very brief mentions of the people working on it, but there's not even the company name (I know, it's in the side, but still it'd be good if there was a mention of it elsewhere clearly too). Who are these guys? What kind of experience do they have?

I think it's good that they decided to do no physical rewards and no stretch goals though. Very refreshing. The game also looks really cool.

We could ask them directly in this thread, one of the guys behind this is a Gaffer.

The main character's model looks like Mario's from Mario 64 but reskinned. They move exactly the same; running, jumping and swimming animations are pretty much the same.

Good luck to the developers I suppose, because it's nice to see more indie developers able to do their own thing, but that video just reinforces how focused Nintendo's design teams are and why so few imitators have ever come close to them, outside perhaps Rare for the first Banjo-Kazooie. The levels showcased in the video have clutter absolutely everywhere, no discernable central landmarks around which to anchor everything else, no great visual or gameplay themes to each level that I could see, random appropriation of certain mechanics (the Mario Galaxy anti-grav stuff) that doesn't fit in at all with anything else shown... frankly, it just looks like a mess. Hopefully I'm either wrong or these things will be ironed out come release, but the designers could do with embracing the idea of doing more with less rather than, it would seem, throwing stuff in and seeing what sticks.

Clive n wrench.

There was a thread a while back with a large list of upcoming indie 3d platformers actually.

I'd love it if some of them collaborated to get their games on a compilation disc on Wii U.

Splatoon is a 3D Platformer too, apparently, in single-player mode. But its not indie so I don't know if that counts.

Only $10? Nice. Backed!

Looks like a nice mix of Mario 64, Mario Galaxy, and Banjo-Kazooie.

I only hope that most of these turn out good!

There was a thread a while back with a large list of upcoming indie 3d platformers actually.

The kickstarter fell through over the weekend. Although i think the devs are going to try to still work on it despite that

Orignally it was going to be an Amazon exclusive, but that deal fell through. The devs had been busy working on Shiftlings, so O&S had been somewhat on hold. But it's still in development

It's on my radar now, but once new info comes out I do hope for a new thread os I'm reminded of it heh.

Speaking of 3D, this one looks to be an adventure game but its kickstarter ends in 2 days

This recent fad of N64/PS1-era 3D platformers is great. However, all of them seem to have some gimmick they are using to set themselves apart. Are any of these projects just nailing down great core platforming?

For example, FreezeME looks cool, except the only platform-based traversal they show involves using the camera to freeze fast-moving platforms in place. For my taste, that seems less interesting than timing my traversal over a slower moving platform. If the majority of the platforming is freeze-based rather than utilizing the awesome-looking traversal mechanics, I'm less interested.

The one where you can switch to swimming is another example. I don't look forward to a game where I can expect 50% of jumping challenge opportunities to be replaced with slow swimming over just-too-wide gaps.

Check out the update videos. They show more of the general gameplay (exploring, platfoming) and some of the other world designs
