Probably not super shocking given what's come out so far.

EA take their first No1 crown of the year with ‘Battlefield Hardline’ becoming the biggest All Formats No1 of 2015 (Week 1 sell through).

Developed by Visceral Games & DICE the series moves into new territory taking on a cops and robbers approach. The latest entry goes one better than ‘Battlefield 4’ which made its debut at No2 in November 2013. Several other new releases arrive this week and its Square Enix’s ‘Final Fantasy Type-0 HD’, which takes the No2 spot.

Platform splits for week 1:

Battlefield: Hardline PS4 (46%)
Battlefield: Hardline XB1 (43%)
Battlefield: Hardline 360 (6%)
Battlefield: Hardline PS3 (3%)

Sales estimates via BKK:

01 (NE) BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE (ELECTRONIC ARTS): Between 83,000 and 185,145

Battlefield 4 comparison (these are not exact numbers by a long shot):

So at their April fiscal call in 2014, EA noted they were hoping for about 1/3rd of Battlefield 4's LTD for their mystery shooter (which was later revealed as Battlefield: Hardline):

The hole that we had to fill this year was essentially Battlefield sales from last year, if you don’t have the Battlefield in the year and so you got a hole that you got to fill.

The way we’re filling that hole is essentially new titles along the lines of FIFA World Cup, UFC, the Golf Game, Sims and Dragon Age. I would say that there was about two thirds of the hole. The rest of the hole we would assume was being filed by this new unannounced game.

Battlefield 4's launch week is a bit hard to put together since it was technically launched over several weeks, but here is a compilation.

360/PS3/Retail PC: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=88571693&postcount=78

Battlefield 4 (360/PS3/PC) - less than 142.931
---
Battlefield 4 360 (55%) - less than 78.612
Battlefield 4 PS3 (27%) - less than 38.591
Battlefield 4 PC (13%) - less than 18.581

XBO debut week plus week 4 of 360/PS3/PC retail: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=91230811&postcount=99

Battlefield 4 (+134%, XB1/360/PS3/PC) - 72,168

PS4 debut week (PS4 plus XB1 week 2 plus 360/PS3/PC week 5): http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=93022321&postcount=292

Battlefield 4 (-35%, PS4/XB1/360/PS3/PC) - 86,782

Hardly something to shout from the rooftops with how slow it currently is.

Hell, you have Mario Party 10 in the top five, that tells you all you need to know about the current state of retail releases.

Going by Eurogamer's wording, it looks like the game sold less at debut than BF4, and they're considering as debut just the first week, no mention about the fragmented launch.

Developed by Dead Space studio Visceral, Hardline beat the chart placing of Battlefield 4, which launched for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 back in October 2013 in second place, behind Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

But Hardline reached the top spot with fewer sales - despite the fact it is also available for PS4 and Xbox One. As expected, Hardline is the best-selling multiplatform launch of 2015 so far, although it has few rivals on that front

Is this supposed to be good?

It kind of depends which end it's closer to. It's not a bad opening though. You can get very high in the UK end of year charts with something like 500K LTD, but there are extreme exceptions where things sell 2 million in just the first week.

I guess another way to put this though is that it's not impossible it retains this record for quite a few months, but ultimately gets mega dwarfed by something like FIFA.

I think it's expected that it wouldn't outsell a mainline entry. A better comparison would be to the Bad Company games.

Yeah, EA noted they were expecting about 1/3rd of Battlefield 4's LTD: http://seekingalpha.com/article/219...-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single

I'll add it as an OP note as well since a lot of people seem curious.

Do we know what BF4's LTD is? I've looked around and can't find anything.

We do not, as it was about a year after EA stopped giving numbers.

That said, BF3 did 17 million and the impression EA gave was that BF4 wasn't especially far behind that despite the console transition, which is why I've assumed their LTD target for Hardline is 4.5-5 million: http://www.gameranx.com/updates/id/...d-bf3-premium-has-over-2-million-subscribers/

We'll probably have to wait for the fiscal call in April to really get a sense about how EA feels about Hardline given that adding up NPD/GFK/etc numbers for mega releases doesn't ever really reach the shipment numbers.

It would be notably hard to gloss over something this important to their fiscal year and their next fiscal quarter to boot.

Good split!

Battlefield: Hardline PS4 (46%)
Battlefield: Hardline XB1 (43%)

Interesting to see if we get actual sales numbers.. one can wish..

Seems really good for the XB1 in the UK. I think EA Access is turning out to be a great idea for EA/Microsoft.

Just in case it interests anyone. I've been looking at the concurrent user stats for BF Hardline across all platforms - one of the few games to actually show it openly. The highest numbers were from the first Sunday post launch (March 22nd)

It's a shame there aren't any stats for other BF spin-offs to make a good comparison to past games. I imagine there are a fair few who chose to stick with the mainline series. I assumed the numbers would have got a lot higher than that across all platforms. It's interesting to see so little from the old gen and PC

When I was looking around BF4's time it got up to... I think it was 300-350K concurrent at tops, which isn't so different.

It's been a long time though.

RexNovis deserves crow, he posted twice the exact same thing in two different threads how it was going to bomb.

Guess the BF name carries more weight than I thought.

And thank god last gen is finally dead outside of CoD/FIFA.

Notice that BF Hardline PS3 is outpacing 360 2:1, which holds up across past BF titles.

When did Battlefield on consoles become a PS franchise? I get that Call of Duty and Xbox have been intertwined together for awhile now, but I had no idea that Playstation basically took over the BF audience.

I know Medal of Honor had the PS1 game included and was originally a PS franchise, but it is not the same as Battlefield at all.

It's not like it's a bad game. I haven't really played the MP(other things like Blood and Type 0 taking up time), but even from what I played seemed solid. I'm sure on closer inspection it has problems. Things like the level design and some objective modes may not be as well desgined as a DICE BF. Still, the actual gunplay is still pretty solid. Though the progression systems seem pretty crappy.

Also the single player is pretty decent. It does feature actual decent level design. Even if the stealth is a little too gamey and the arrest system too binary. It still gives more options then typical of these FPS.

The story may be stupid( that ending is), but I do actually feel that the end half is a bit more fun as it does get really ridiculous and it's less "grime and gritty serious" then most FPS these days. Which was a positive for me.

The game also looks nice. Not the best, but still pretty solid. The tv presentation also adds actual flavor and personality.

It's a solid game.

Since Bad Company? Beta/demos came out first on PS, and I believe most of their promo material for BC/2 were from the PS versions.
