ArsTechnica: Xbox One - live gameplay streaming delayed to 2014

It feels like FUD when nothing substantial is posted, though. Now that the Twitch news checks out, does he have free reign to post the rest?
No. I'd much rather err on the side of caution and give MS the benefit of the doubt. I'm still certain that most things will be ready for the Xbone launch based on my experience. Cboat disagrees. I pulled rank. There you go.

What I was told by cboat via PM back on October 23rd is being actively cross-checked against issues as they come to light. Twitch functionality was one of them. I also told him/her not to put anything else from that list out there w/o real proof - I know firsthand how things can change leading up to launch, I've been through 4 of them now.

We take vetting seriously here, people.

Exactly. We may not get to hear exactly what CBOAT has to say before launch, but I've seen enough truthfacts proven correct to know that if he (or she) says that there's an ass storm coming, that there's really an ass storm coming. It's at least a small part of the reason that I cancelled my Xbox One preorder a while back - I don't mind waiting for the dust to settle (and my wallet to recharge after buying a Wii U and PS4 a week apart) before jumping in.

(And, like bish has said, regardless of the severity of the issues, I do believe that Microsoft will fix most of them in time - if they haven't done so already. As much as some people disagree, Microsoft does hire a lot of smart people, and they take Xbox seriously - it's just a very complex product with ambitious software, probably developed on a tighter schedule than they first planned.)

Not that you need people cosigning your approach, but this is probably the best way to handle it.

We probably won't know completely what is going on until people get their consoles home and get whatever build MS pushes out the night before.

Can you say the number of supposed "issues" and if so how many have been verified or have already come to light. Without going in-depth or anything?

So, if he is wrong we will never know, right?

How did this happen, they touted this at e3 and yet Sony didn't have twitch at all, now Sony has twitch and MS doesn't. This is weird.

Well you kind of just reworded the exact same post I quoted.
I did, because you didn't really address the central question either time. What's really going to matter to people who are still committed to an XBO purchase at this point?

I doubt CBOAT is holding back on anything as earth-shattering as massive, double-digit failure rates for the XBO at launch. It's probably more of the same stuff about features being delayed until sometime in 2014 because MS really wasn't all that ready to launch this year. Which has been obvious for quite some time for anyone not just burying their heads in the sand.

When it's enough to have CBOAT come out of hiding and Bish come out of the bunker to elaborate rght before a launch, you know shit is about to going down.

I just hope it's not catastrophic stuff. If it's a few more feature issues I won't be too upset. Now if shit is just broken...

I don't think this is quite as big of a deal as it's made out to be. The established twitch streamers will just use their existing setups at least until it's ready to go, if not stick with that for good.

The bigger thing is that they announced this first and didn't have it ready.

I streamed 2 hours of dota one night and that's all the streaming I ever did before I bought a ps4

I've streamed every night since Friday. It being right there and just being so well integrated into everything has given me a new reason to show off these games

If CBOAT posts the rest, sounds like gaf will have a new meltdown

This weekend, I watched a couple of streams, which were very High QUality, of NFS Rivals. I bought it 2 days ago just because of the streams. Last night, I sat back watching several streams of NBA Live, it was like a comedy. Game looked awful. I was also able to pull up some Battlefield 4 Multiplayer, and some Madden. It is instant.

So for me, streaming USED to not be a big deal at all. But now, it immediately impacted my thoughts about NFS Rivals, and I bought it when it wasn't on my radar. I also go to see first hand how Crappy NBA Live was, and realize I didn't want Madden anymore. All of this from my PS4, on my screen, without even searching for it. I clicked the icon on my PS4 OS, then clicked on a thumbnail of one of the current streams. Quick, easy, effective.

Agreed, being able to quickly preview what a game looks/plays like before buying it seems like a great boon for gamers. Though of course you risk the chance of spoilers on story driven games but I'm loving the option to check out how a game plays before getting it (kinda like an extension of demos)

I can't imagine it'd be anything substantial; I mean, reviewers have been able to play through games to review them, so it can't be that fucked up, right?

At a stretch, maybe it's just a few more missing features.

Which is why I get my news from NeoGAF and not IGN/Polygon/Gamespot/Dent/Gies/Ars, etc. GAF actually fact checks.

Yeah, ever since I started watching ps4 streams I thought about this but haven't really commented on it until now. Just weird.

Maybe MS wanted a cut since devs can censor?

Anyways, too bad, I was wanting to watch some X1 streams from twitch noobs.

How severe are the other things on a scale of
<no twitch streaming day one---------------------------RROD day one>

This is what I'm wondering too. Software stuff will get ironed out. Don't want to deal with RROD though. I was one of the lucky ones that didn't deal with it last launch. Don't want to press my luck.

Good, there's a reason many of us rely on GAF for news,
and why the gaming press does as well.

The most disappointing thing about this launch has been the selling points of both systems that are missing at launch.

If there's a roadmap I'd sooner they publish the roadmap rather than patch in features you were expecting anyway.

It's crazy how long we've had to wait for new consoles. It seems to have gone from who was ready to launch first, to who has the least software patches to implement.

Personally I feel it spreads more FUD when stuff is posted without good evidence. Kind of agree with bish's stance on this.

cboat is still teasing, though, and that is worse than posting stuff without evidence since he has a generally good track record. It just causes more negative speculation.

Definitely disappointing. It's such an awesome feature on the Playstation 4.

I'd imagine it's going to roll out in time for Titanfall. They'd be stupid not to have it ready by then.

They would be stupid to not have it ready for launch but here we are...

And to everyone trying to dismiss this as not a big deal, just go to twitch and see PS4 games being on the top of the featured list. This is free marketing and that is just the start.

Streaming is highly viral. You have a friend, he sends you a link and here it is him playing COD: Ghosts online while 50 people is watching and interacting with him. What will his friend do next? He wants to stream too because it's so easy to do, but he can do it with a capture device (also less accessible to do) + console or just a console? Which is he going to chose?

If you don't believe it just watch some streams and see the chat. I'm going to guess everyone that was excited about seeing PS4 games and also streaming on the X1 are probably pondering about changing their preorder today.

jsut pParat of it. not al by a longo shiot.

What the hell else is on the list #Truthfacts CBOAT gave to Bishoptl?

I hope all ends well for X1 buyers but damn I would be pretty shook if I was in the day 1 camp. It seems there has been very little positive news to latch onto over the past few months.

For some reason, I'm more interested in whether bish needed to translate CBOAT's PMs to him more than what he actually said.

At some point, when this has all blown over, I'd love to see a CBOAT post that isn't in buttspeak and just watch everyone's practiced translation methods implode.

I think this would be bigger if Xbox One were launching a few months after PS4 and didn't have streaming. Streaming is awesome, but it hasn't caught on enough for most people to be upset about it's absence. MS needs to get this feature out soon, though, because it's popularity is growing fairly quickly.

So I suppose by Friday we'll know for sure? Would CBOAT have free reign to post about what he told you guys on Friday? Assuming of course what he tells us is in fact what is missing/lacking/confirmed.

Sucks for people only getting a One because it is one of the coolest features of next gen to me. Still crazy how simple it is to have your game streaming.

Also team cboat till the end.
