ArsTechnica: Xbox One - live gameplay streaming delayed to 2014

This isn't for the established streamers, this is about bringing casual, or even core gamers that didn't give a shit about streaming into the scene.

It's pretty clear that with the 'Whats New' feed and Sony putting the Live from Playstation front-and-center, their intention is for as many Playstation gamers to be streaming, sharing videos, photos.

It's free marketing, and it builds an ecosystem of games that is being played and shared on Playstation by the entire world. Sony excluded non-PS4 streams from their stream service for a reason.

Even when Twitch eventually brings an app that allows gamers to watch for all platforms, Sony's approach prioritises their own content and platform, since it's not hidden in a folder.

That's me. I'm not into streaming at all, but now that it's right there, I've been listening to them while I do other things (cook/clean).

When is the xbone FAQ supposed to be released? It's less than 3 days from launch.

Shouldn't people be allowed to know in detail what it has or doesn't have before buying it?

the only thing you need to know
it plays used games
no online drm after day 1 patch

Yes shady. Not confirming it wouldn't be out at launch and waiting until the embargo lifted for the news to spill; the embargo which happens to be placed close enough to launch where people would have already been charged for their devices in a lot of cases and unable to cancel.

Hryb was tweeted countless times to comment on it, and even threads on GAF about it. Oh, you can bet he saw the thread that was on the same page and nearly always next to the thread he commented in yesterday concerning his... statement about what gamers want.

Both he and Penello refused to comment on it, not confirming it would be there or confirming it wouldn't. A feature they announced as "integrated" seems not so.

If it wasnt confirmed than why would you expect it to be a t launch? Who is going to cancel over twitch being delayed by a couple months at most? Come on use your head.

You love to hate on the X1 and MS though so try and turn this into a big deal.

Wonder if it was buggy and got pulled last second. It would explain the silence when people asked about the feature.

Maybe he was just talking about watching Twitch streams. Doesn't make any sense otherwise.

You can still watch Twitch streams. They delayed the ability to stream from your Xbox, that's all.

wow

On the bright side, twitch servers are breathing a sigh of relief, they're hammered enough as is. Popular streamer MANvsGAME was bitching for about an hour about all the shitty PS4 streamers with 1-2 viewers wrecking the servers and delaying his broadcast on his last show. :lol

Do you really think they can just walk in here and announce features which haven't made it in for launch? If so then you're incredibly naive.

People always like to focus on the negative, but with this announcement has come the information that you can upload clips straight to Skydrive, where the files can be accessed in .mp4 format and edited/used to your heart's content - something which the competition doesn't yet have implemented. It swings in roundabouts.

All of that stuff didn't send bish running for the hills though.
That in and of itself isn't enough information to work with? If it's not obvious by now that buying an XBO at launch is a larger gamble than usual for a variety of rumoured *and* confirmed reasons, what's really going to change the minds of people who have decided to stick with getting one at launch anyway?

For those people that are so confused about "How in the world could this be delayed when Microsoft revealed a deal with Twitch before Sony did?"

I think many of you are forgetting that Sony announced the ability to stream your gameplay BEFORE Microsoft did. They may not have announced how, but that was a feature at their reveal. Sony built the hardware into the PS4 to allow streaming, without an impact on gameplay.

Microsoft may have announced the Twitch deal before Sony, but it almost appears now that Streaming, and maybe even Game DVR, were tacked on in response to Sony. Now Microsoft is still trying to get Streaming to work correctly.

Also, for those that are saying this isn't a big deal, nobody is going to do it, why would anyone want to watch others play games! I totally agreed with you, before last Friday. On my PS4, in just a few clicks of my D Pad, I can go over to Live with Playstation, and it immediately pulls up a ton of games currently being streamed.

This weekend, I watched a couple of streams, which were very High QUality, of NFS Rivals. I bought it 2 days ago just because of the streams. Last night, I sat back watching several streams of NBA Live, it was like a comedy. Game looked awful. I was also able to pull up some Battlefield 4 Multiplayer, and some Madden. It is instant.

So for me, streaming USED to not be a big deal at all. But now, it immediately impacted my thoughts about NFS Rivals, and I bought it when it wasn't on my radar. I also go to see first hand how Crappy NBA Live was, and realize I didn't want Madden anymore. All of this from my PS4, on my screen, without even searching for it. I clicked the icon on my PS4 OS, then clicked on a thumbnail of one of the current streams. Quick, easy, effective.

Sucks.
Sony and PlayStation 4 did good on having this ready at launch.
hopefully it will be early early 2014 and not Titanfall early.

That feature has nothing to do with the livestreaming feature. I have no idea why you even brought it up, it's off-topic.

We get one or the other. Not both, hah!

I've been streaming since 2009, when it was JTV Gaming, but this is crazy. Demand for this feature seemed to place it as a required feature seemingly overnight.

Well you kind of just reworded the exact same post I quoted. Bishop reacted to information CBOAT gave him indicating it was something huge. We don't have that information yet because CBOAT won't (or can't) give it to us. This info he's keeping quiet about seems like it dwarfs any bad info we've gotten so far and could be useful to know for people planning on buying it regardless of whether or not it would change their minds.

What I was told by cboat via PM back on October 23rd is being actively cross-checked against issues as they come to light. Twitch functionality was one of them. I also told him/her not to put anything else from that list out there w/o real proof - I know firsthand how things can change leading up to launch, I've been through 4 of them now.

We take vetting seriously here, people.

I've wondered that if MS had it in the works that they would have at least touched on it during their initial XB1 reveal. I could totally be wrong but it does seem to me that the inclusion of streaming/DVR features on XB1 are more reactionary than anything.

Not just this, I watched Garnett Lee from Weekend Confirmed stream NFS and answer questions Saturday night. It opens up all kinds of new ways for games media to do coverage. Brad Shoemaker from Giant Bomb essentially streamed the completion of his Resogun review which was a great moment.

jsut pParat of it. not al by a longo shiot.

ican wait.

I can't fathom what this could be considering all the crushing blows already dealt to MS/XB1. If this is something really big though (as Bish kinda eluded to before from CBOAT), why it's not known is kind of scary. What effect is it going to have on the people who purchase this machine for $499.99? Is it something detrimental to their experience?

oh snap.

I wouldn't have used it, but it does seem like a cool feature to have. I did check out a ps4 stream of need for speed yesterday.

Hopefully XBL will be more stable on Friday since this is delayed.

It feels like FUD when nothing substantial is posted, though. Now that the Twitch news checks out, does he have free reign to post the rest?

How severe are the other things on a scale of
<no twitch streaming day one---------------------------RROD day one>

Cboat, we need the rest of the bad news ASAP. Consider it a public service for all those kids who will be opening up an Xbone on Christmas morning.

Seems like the best way to handle it in all honesty.

There's a lot of jaded people out there right now looking for an excuse to crucify cboat, despite all the good insider stuff he's leaked over the years. It's a case of wanting to shoot the messenger for bad news.

I'm guessing server crashes are going to be widespread and not just because of the sudden surge of people online trying to download the firmware or digital games.

When it's enough to have CBOAT come out of hiding and Bish come out of the bunker to elaborate rght before a launch, you know shit is about to going down.

Is it possible you tell us the number of features he/she listed? under over 5?

If you know something, spill the beans already. Teasing won't help the buyers.

Hasn't your teasing been going on for 3 months or so now? Any little thing that is bad news has people saying, ""didn't see cboat mention this?" Launch is less than 3 days away. Give us something substantial.

I guess you guys are gonna have to wait until this Friday to find out, hee, hee, hee.

He probably doesn't want to risk getting found out by Microsoft's higher-ups (that is, if he works there).
