Too scared to finish a game?

Siren: Blood Course

I payed for it, played it for 2 hours and then i came to a hospital, and i said to myself, no way i´m playing this. I even deleted it from the hard drive because the theme music is to scary. Watched the ending on youtube some years later, so i feel that my manliness has come back to a slightly degree.
 
Shalebridge Cradle level in Thief 3.

Haven't finished the game yet...

What had been a straightforward stealth game several hours in suddenly decides to transform into a complete nightmare. Up to this point, the game had trained you to love the shadows -- for the first time, the shadows now make you verry uncomfortable.
 
REmake - the extreme tension combined with literally zero handholding makes it very hard for me to play this game, although I like it and would like to see more like it.

House of the Dead 2 - Got this on the DC launch day (I was 10) and couldn't play more than five min before I made my mom return it.
 
Amnesia is the only game to genuinely scare me, I remember having to man up just to open the exe.

I predict I'll be able to build a new house with all the bricks I'll shit in Amnesia 2, just it's trailer alone gave me those anxiety chills.
 
I really was freaked out playing FEAR. I did finish it, but bloody hell, I sure screamed a lot from some of the jump scares. Yes, I am a pussy.

I have Amnesia installed, but I think it'll be my death.
 
Not quite, because I'm generally too scared to start a game of that kind.

It's a testament to how good Half-Life 2 is that I managed to make myself go through Ravenholm. For me, that's an accomplishment.
 
When I was younger I could only play REmake in 10 minute sittings. Once I saw Lisa Trevor.... I never played it again for years.
 
The only time i was too scared to finish a game was when i played Silent Hill for the first time. 9 year old me couldn't take it. After that shock therapy (thanks dad...) nothing ever scared me.
 
Shortly after the doll room in Project Zero, I turned the game off and never ended up returning to it (although I meant to). I'm ashamed to say, it just got too much for me.
 
Amnesia - couldn't finish.

Also, special mention to my first time through Tower of Latria on Demon's. Scarier than most horror games for me because I was much more invested and EVERYTHING could just fuck you up big time. Loved it so never thought about actually quitting... but those bells... ding... right in the waters man. That place is grim. Never walked so slow in a video game as my first time through there.
 
The Last of Us - I had to limit my play sessions to 2 hours. The tension was too intense, it was only somewhat scary.

Siren Blood Curse - too scary. I still have that last episode to go.
 
White Day: A Labyrinth Named School.

It's sort of like Amnesia, but in my opinion a lot scarier, and it came out 10 years earlier (they had to release patches to make the game less scary since so many people were emailing them they couldn't complete the game because it was too scary).

That game breaks me. I plan to finish it before the year is up, on the second to hardest difficulty for the most scares.

The game REALLY gets to me.
 
That opening fight with the village in Resident Evil 4 was...more than enough for me...especially after I tried fighting off the chainsaw guy with a knife...yea, not touching that series again.
 
Played Fatal Frame for about five minutes before taking it back to GameStop/Software Etc. (or whatever it was called at the time) in exchange for Mister Mosquito. The employees laughed at me.

I liked Mister Mosquito.
 
only one level of one game has given me the heebie jeebies
that asylum level in thief deadly shadows, f*ck that was messed up
i got the hair up on the back of my neck and everything
still finished the game though
 
What the hell is it with Amnesia that makes it so scary? I mean, it's enough to walk around a bit and catch a sight of something and your nerves are done. Fuck. It's not like there hasn't been games before that have, on paper, done the exact same stuff.

I really had to push myself through the game. Beating it became one of my biggest personal accomplishments in 2011. God, that's kind of sad.

The dorms... Dark, nasty, close quarters. With a big fucker waiting at the end. *shudder*

Games definitely affect me A LOT, more than scary movies. I think I just get into it too much. I was scared as SHIT for a large part of Aliens Colonial Marines (yes, that Aliens: CM), and I could barely control my dude in the final battle because I was like trembling with anxiety and fear every time I had to run out in the open.

I got a nice set of headphones this past year. There is definitely a class of games I cannot use them with :P

I think partly I'm just afraid of dying because I don't want I have to restart at a checkpoint, but in scary games that anxiety gets combined with fear in my brain and it comes out all fear
 
I'm surpised people find the last of us scary. Tense and atmospheric sure but scary? no. I've always finished my games but Silent hill 2 was creepy as fuck and i had to push myself a bit. The game is a masterpiece though so theree was no way that was getting left unfinished.

It could be, in part
the gross factor, which makes you more uncomfortable and jumpy. Gross normally =
+scary for me. That's why
the dorm creeped me out. You have to walk right up to all this gross shit, all the while waiting for something else gross to jump out and attack you. Cortana in Halo 3 used to give me the willies for this reason, but not I know that I just have to run in like a boss and own everything lol
 
I installed Ao Oni a long time ago.

Really really REALLY bad feeling dawned on me playing for a little. I turned it off before even encountering the Oni. Very very Uncomfortable

I've watched too many gore/splatter films be scared by that stuff now but i get what your saying. I really should give those kind of films a break acually i'm probably becoming a bit desenstised lol.
 
I was absolutely terrified of Breath of Fire (the first one on SNES). As a kid, the zombies, the town Romero and ESPECIALLY the music that played during that section were enough to cause me to sprint out of the room. However, my gaming-related New Year's resolution for 2011 was to beat 100 games, and Breath of Fire was #100 on December 31st.
 
I have not trouble playing Dark Souls but I am always too scared to confront a boss or new area. Took me a good few months break to get game enough to fight the Gaping Dragon and then I killed it with absolutely no trouble.

Am absolutely terrified of Penumbra and will probably never go back to it. Amnesia had some real scary moments, but as soon as I realized there were gonna be some spider monsters in Penumbra, I couldn't continue. Hearing them scuttling around was too much.
 
I wouldnt say scared to finish but scared to continue. To this day I cannot play Silent Hill Homecoming, Dead Space 1 and 2 at night. Sorry cant do it. And other similar games. There was a part in The Last of Us that was kinda scary but I made it scarier because I didnt do something.....afraid I was gonna give myself away.

This so much! My dad would play this for me and I would still have nightmares with my bedroom door cracked open. Such a scary game!

This fucking part... I remember putting the game down and not beating it until years later. I actually still have problems with sharks in games.
 
Silent Hill 2, I mean I did finish it but it took me a good 4 months to get through it. It wasn't even that scary looking back on it because I've been able to power through it in a day on subsequent play throughs. But that first play through, not knowing what is around the corner? That shit eats away at your psyche fast.
 
I have never been too scared to finish but some games have reduced me to a quivering wreck.

The re-generator necromorph in Dead Space within the room where you have to move things out the way reduced me to a fumbling idiot. It was like I had never played a game before.

I also cannot listen to the music in Dark Souls when confronting a boss as this seems to send me down the pan.

UGH water parts! I am so scared by water parts. Those are parts that I seriously have a very difficult time playing. The boss in the sewers in Shadows of the Empire? I have to run through shit like that as fast as possible, I'm so scared of water and shit being in it for some reason lol. In playing Half Life right now, which has been scaring me some in general, but I just got to some water parts that made me reeally uncomfortable, even in that game.

And then there's REmake. Probably one of my best nope.gif moments.
