How the hell do you get cyberbullied?

Never got bullied, but I'm guessing even if you get bullied once, the insult still stings. I do agree though, I'm not sure why it'd be hard to block or delete people, depending on the service.

It is something serious though. It's just as bad as regular bullying from what I seen, maybe even worse so, since it's unexpected.

The concept still makes no sense to me. Do these kids not know what delete means?
It doesn't seem that serious to me.
Facebook wall posting, not friending, evil tweets, mail, texts from several people

You can't delete everything

Some people are more sensitive than others. Just look at some of the more "controversial" threads on Gaf. Some people just need to grow a sac or some ovaries or something.

There are a lot of things on the internet you can't delete though. Someone slandering you on the internet sticks around much longer than someone calling you fantapants during recess for a few weeks and there are a lot more venues to do it on than just Facebook. Never had any real experience with it, but that's my take.

One of the points made is that with traditional bullying at least you get a respite when you're not at school. With cyber bullying it's constant. Especially in a case when people are retweeting or reposting nasty comments.

Fantapants?

Have you ever been called a faggot and punched in the face while the teacher wasn't looking?

Imagine that, but when you get home there's a comment on your Facebook page that says

"Hey faggot I'm gonna punch you in the face when I see you again."

The schools I attended had a serious lack of bullying (I'm not saying that is a bad thing or that it never happend). I was never bullied and have no friends that were bullied. I hardly even saw anyone get bullied so I know nothing about cyber bullying.

Digital rumors and shit talking.

Sticks and stones will break my bones by 1s and 0s will make me slit my wrists.

I was working on my own while you posted this.

Sticks and stones may break my bones and so may texts, social network messages, IMs, emails, tweets, and blogs.

The internet has become the equivalent of playground talk for young people. Whatever rumors and shit people used to say behind people's back in real life can now be said online to a much much wider audience. All they've known is the internet and the effect it has on society. If people feel like they're insulted online maybe they're afraid of other people seeing it and believing it, or they just don't want to have to get into verbal fights and defend their character or whatever.

I grew up just before 'cyber bullying' blew up so I don't know what it's like but I wouldn't doubt that it's a real phenomenon that children get depressed over.

Megan developed a relationship on MySpace with an individual who she thought was a new boy in the area, but turned out to be a cabal of other individuals from the neighborhood, including adults such as Lori Drews (who’s 13-year old daughter was once friends with Megan, but had gotten into a fight with her) and an 18-year-old temporary office worker who worked for Drews.

The group created an elaborate hoax to make Megan believe that she had a burgeoning relationship with the boy. When the plot was revealed for all to see, Megan was unable to deal with the humiliation and took her own life.

Fantapants?

Heard it first in this song and had to look it up myself, but thought it was a great word.

fanta pants
origin: Scottish
(from gaelic 'farnter' meaning flame-haired)
fanta pants refers to a true ginger minge, natural orange collar and cuffs.
"phoar, look at that hottie, she's a red-head, but d'ya think she's a fanta pants?"

Harassment is harassment. If you're not taught how to handle bullying and bullies, you'll crumble, regardless of the format.

Another example of fault being traceable back to parents who won't do the hard work of showing their children how to get through the most basic life situations without reaching for a knife.

Cyberlynching is horrible.

I'm glad I grew up in an age where your bullies had to search the school grounds to find you, not just google.

Have you not heard of news about high school teens cyberbullying fellow students on Facebook and whatnot? That stuff follows kids into real-life situations.

Just delete it LOL, I mean its not like other people can read stuff that you delete right?

People are ruthless and words -DO- hurt. Especially if you're young. When I was a kid the bully would just hit you. Now-a-days the bully comes home with you and talks shit about you on the internet. It's constant when it's cyberbullying... There's no respite.

Kids are sensitive. They haven't developed the "I kinda just don't give a shit what you say" skill that they master when they become adults.

People link cyber bullying to the typical notion of bullying too much. Cyber bullying isn't just making fun of someone on their facebook wall. It can take on many forms. See above.

It's pretty easy Brian Brown.

You just have to get some info on the person you're bullying.

Well you can't delete stuff that people put about you on their page. Additionally there are a surprisingly large number of kids who have phones/Facebook/whatever, and don't really know how to work them effectively.

Also kids that are already under-developed socially are usually the ones getting picked on, so they don't handle it very well.

How does someone get a bully to delete a website they made making fun of them? How does someone get a bully to delete a Facebook wall post calling them names?

When your source of validation becomes hostile, then it starts affecting you.

Keep complaining you whiny little bitch.

Watcha gonna do? EVERYONE on your friends will see this hahaaha! Guys we gotta make fun of him at school tomorrow.

Though I have never been cyber bullied, you are incredibly naive to believe of is on the internet stays on the internet. The vast majority of cyber bullying is not just say a random dick on a forum trolling. It usually is on sites like facebook where it is public for everyone to see.

In places like middle school and high school, the victims have to deal with the other people who seen what was said about them on Facebook. They can delete all of the messages they want, but others will still see them and odds are it will follow them in school.
