It would seem to me that you weren't capable of coming up with a substantive reply so you tried to be pithy.![]()
You're comparing words that have no relation whatsoever. At best you're being purposely obtuse. There really isn't much more that needs to be said.
I was comparing words that are employed to fill the same function; I did not say that they had the same definition. The only way you could claim that I was saying that is was if you failed to read anything I said, if you couldn't comprehend anything I said, or if you were lying about what I said.
From my view she is a problem. She's likening her self to real victims of real crimes to shoehorn herself into the story of a genuine problem plaguing that city. It's beyond fucking pathetic.Misogynist gaf in full force tonight. The female reporter is really the problem, right?
Are you implying what I think you're implying?
It was a joke basically implying that the term "bitch" is not associated with anything protected. It is, has, and will always be a mild curse. People getting sensitive about calling someone a bitch over doing something cowardly, well that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. I'd definitely use a more gentle word, had this guy not been faced with a $1300 bond for doing something most reporters would literally laugh off.
You're so off base it's comical. Those words are all insults, the comparisons end there. You can't say they're equally offensive when the implied insult has a completely different meaning.
Demeaning someone because of their lack of masculinity is a thing many gendered insults share. Faggot is a lack of masculinity. Bitch or cunt is acting out as a woman. Bitch applied to a man is acting like a woman, which is an implied inferiority. You are the off base one if you don't think the insults are derived from the same mentality.

Really? You REALLY attach all of those terms to sexuality?
...really?

What a coherent argument from someone who just implied I'm a bitch in an earlier post.

I'm just shocked that as an expert on gender and stereotypes, you were willing to burn someone at the stake when your professional opinion isn't even one that is shared amongst the ones you're attacking.
I just think it is absolutely ridiculous that you would think people use "bitch" for a "woman acting out"? WHAT? Like...I think of historical women figures who stood up for themselves and that is what you'd attach bitch to. And here is a women getting the mic taken from her during an interview and pressing assault charges, yet you find it offensive people are calling her a bitch? That is not "a woman acting out", that is a person acting like a god damn idiot.
Cunt isn't a lack of femininity. If anything it's implying the polar opposite.
I'm going to excuse myself from this discussion though because I know where these threads lead.
Why is bitch chosen? Of all the words and insults one can levy?
I already covered this, I would have said something PG like "moron" or "idiot" if this didn't actually carry hard consequences for the guy who grabbed the mic.
Let me ask you, what word would you have chosen? I know you're not a sexist misogynist pig like me, but I'm still curious.
You should excuse yourself if you can't read.
Something that doesn't alienate women with its usage?
You didn't answer the question, we've already covered the fact that I hate women.
I haven't said as much actually. Putting that cross up rather early aren't we? I don't care what you think you mean when you call a woman a bitch, it creates a hostile environment towards women. Are we supposed to know your personal definition of the word? Or just accept the casual usage despite the weight that word carries? When am I supposed to know the difference? And its usage here certainly isn't friendly? So uh I don't see your point. And mumei already tackled this, ridiculous, stupid, idiotic, and yet people went for bitch.
This I didn't even see him touch her. Lol stupid but not assault, wtfDude was an idiot, but it was funny. But yeah, they are completely overblowing the 'assault'. I didn't even see a shove, just him grabbing and pulling the mic.
What's wrong with us? No, sir, what the fuck is wrong with people like you? What the fuck is wrong with you lot?
Assault charges cover a wide variety of incidents. The kid could spend a month in jail or pay a fine. I'm not going to comment on the news report because that is a topic for another conversation. But looking at the incident itself, he deserves to be charged. Its why you have degrees to assault charges. He'll get charged with the lowest and if he had a good lawyer he'd pay a fine. Of course that in itself is a topic for the other thread about the US justice system
Looks like she liked being rammed by THAT NIGGA!
What's wrong with us? No, sir, what the fuck is wrong with people like you?
Anyone who thinks this guy should get any time for that what so ever is being utterly ridiculous. No one got hurt. No one was threatened. No one was in any danger.
And there is no need to wait for another thread about the US justice system. I can tell you right now it's complete shit more often than it should be. Period. And if this guy get's anything other than a slight slap on the wrist it will only reaffirm my assessment of it's utter shittiness.
The context is just as important as the behavior. He's being charged because he's not high enough on the societal rung to get away with what he did. He can't even post a $1400 bail. I don't even think it's strictly a race thing. Would 50 Cent be charged for misdemeanor assault if he grabbed the mic like that? No, even if the anchor didn't recognize him. What the fuck is wrong with you lot?

I've actually had something similar to that happen to me before! No joke. The guy was fucking with me for whatever reason and snatched my DS from me at my College. He pretty much gave it right back to me too. The thought of pressing any type of charges against that guy never once entered my fucking mind... even now as I think back on it, what an absolutely ridiculous thing that would have been. An utter waste of everyone's time...I have to reiterate that I said its why we have degrees for assault charges and they are usually separate from assault and battery. Yes its was meant as a prank and the news report that followed it is ridiculous in itself. But if he had done this to a passing pedestrian and he instead ripped their cellphone out of their hand would you feel different about it? I mean we could talk about how unfair the system will be on him, being young and black. But that is a much bigger issue and one we don't have to bring up to discuss this incident.
Unless he gets a hardass judge trying to make him a example he'll get a fine maybe some anger management classes and even then the harshest sentence is 30 days in jail.

Would Moore be arrested for grabbing the mic off of someone during a local rap battle? No. Beaten? Maybe. Arrested? No. It's classism at work here.
And when did this take place? When she was standing still behind him while he made an ass of himself? Was that the moment she could have caused herself some damage? If he just snuck into the picture and shouted it you might have a point. Taking the mic from her and moving into her space is what gets him in trouble. Threatening violence or this case putting her in a position where she could hurt herself is enough for an assault charge.
