Deputies said 32-year-old Jody Ray Thompson pulled out a gun after getting into an argument with another man and fired several rounds toward a crowd that had gathered out in front of the club.

"His rounds struck 3 victims, and almost struck a fourth victim, who in self-defense, pulled his own weapon and fired, striking Thompson in the leg," Lt. Kevin Bobo said.

Bobo said the man who shot Thompson has a valid concealed weapons permit, cooperated with investigators, and won’t be facing any charges.

That is some wild west shit there.

"His rounds struck 3 victims"

I don't get this mentality - "I am mad at some guy so let me just shoot indiscriminately towards a crowd"

Problem is for every successful 'good guy with a gun' story there's literally hundreds of 'idiot shoots their loved one' stories.

I mean, the other thing to take away is that if no one had a gun, there wouldn't have been a shooting at all. Maybe that guy would have thrown a few punches and then got beaten up by everyone else.

Huh? Couldn't the headline also be:

Unfettered Gun Access Allows Hothead to Start Blasting at Rival, Ignoring Safety of Bystanders?

I'm glad nobody died, but the use of "mass shooting" seems wildly inappropriate.

Stopped a shooter? Yes

Stopped a mass shooting? Hazy declaration.

It's good that none of the victims had life threatening injuries and this guy stopped him from shooting some more.

The title makes it seem like this was an attempted mass shooting like the one in Orlando, but it seems like a spur of the moment decision by someone else who shouldn't have been going to clubs with a gun in the first place.

Good for this guy.

It's still mind blowing to me that multiple people in the US can pull out guns because they all happened to be carrying, and start a firefight at any time.

Dude did good. good job dude.

Why go that far?

In this story alone there's one bad guy with a gun shooting into a crowd before there is a good guy in a gun shooting that guy. There wouldn't even be a need for the latter without the former.

The headline could have easily read "Four People Shot at SC Nightclub."

The headline should have read "Everybody at SC Nightclub Had a Good Time and Nobody Got Shot."

"Concealed Carrier Prevents Mass Shooting Caused by Concealed Carrier".

*Insert Simpsons Alcohol .gif*

Guy who shot at the crowd didn't have a permit to carry the weapon, though.

*EDIT* Just picking up on the use of the term 'Concealed Carrier', that's all.

On one side I doubt this was a "mass shooting" as intended by the scumbag.

On the other side I expect to see this incident of self defense shat on as it's counter to the narrative that all guns are evil under any circumstance.

if neither of them had a gun nobody would've gotten shot.

difficult to process this one, i know.

If no one had a gun the worst the guy could do is stab someone, but more likely get into a fistfight. Having easy access to guns makes any argument and potential confrontation so much more dangerous.

As long as "terrorists" with guns are getting prevented by others with guns, the 2nd ammendment is going nowhere. This article tried to extrapolate and push the gun thing and failed, however this signifies imo a classic instance of gun bans failing in court, while creating a stronger argument for control. Can anyone guess what's gonna happen in the future?

we'll start liking guns when guns are proven to make us safer

right now every statistic we have shows the opposite

enjoy your delusion of security

You don't get clicks that way, Stankles. If you want clicks, and engagement, you gotta go with what's hot.
