Danganronpa releasing on Steam Feb. 18th ($30, 20% launch disc. has trading cards)

It's the same assets as the Vita version. If you scale those PC screenshots to the same resolution as the Vita version, the 2D parts will look on par with and the 3D parts will look better than on Vita. People just don't understand how pixels work :P
I understand how pixels work, but upscaling stuff like that doesn't look pretty. Playing it on a native 544p screen looks much better.

Alright, well that explains the problem. Guess on PC it shouldn't be the biggest problem. No doubt someone will mod it with improved 2D artwork. Will buy it regardless, been really looking forward to the game for a while now!

I don't think mouse support has been confirmed, has it?
It would be a shame, given how much clicking is in the game, and the cursor is really slow too.

On PC, you can likely adjust the resolution to match 544p.

He is saying that through a well crafted spell, one can create a glamour that can give the game's visual a cleaner and better look.
Maybe it's easier to understand when you just assume that for non-techies technical talk sounds like magic anyway

As in only mouse? No. But Mouse and Keybord is totally a go. It has gamepad support to.

That works for windowed I guess, but if you want fullscreen it's still gonna upscale.

Unless you have a 544p monitor.

wow these spells must be pretty cool to fabricate high res portraits
why did I even dignify this with a response lol

Borderless is whatever your max resolution is.

Oh, that's good!
If I can fire truth bullets with the mouse, then it really is the best version of the game. Aiming with the thumbsticks and touch screen was awful in some hard parts.

Right but playing visual novels windowed on PC is a classic and time-honored method by the fanbase going back decades. :)

Is the game worth diving into if you're a fan of persona and jrpgs like smt, and wild arms and stuff?

It's more if you're a fan of detective games and visual novels. Like Ace Attorney is the best example I can think of.

You wouldn't run it on a screenshot (where assets are already distorted from the normal rendering process, thus making the resampling inaccurate) but on the actual assets before uploading them as textures.

But hey, I see you have already made up your mind.

quality of the assets isn't going to stop waifu2x crushing detail on anything with a texture to it

If this game uses vector art, why the heck is it low res? Did they not save the original vectors or something?

edit: Derp, I though I saw a post referring to the art as "vectors", and I was on my phone so it looked completely plausible. After seeing the images on a larger screen I feel stupid.

Odd thing is, after playing around with waifu2x for a bit (I'd never heard of it up until about an hour ago), I'm actually not seeing any loss of detail, like I'd usually expect with these types of algorithms. Some of the details that the algorithm fills in look a bit off, but nothing from the original is gone.

On topic, the fact that the text is low-res might be a deal-breaker for me. Having a pleasant-looking font is kind of a big deal in a visual novel. Also, it seems like an incredibly easy fix. Is this game using some kind of custom-made raster font? Seems unlikely.

I just got an email

We received similar reports of graphical glitches from other reviewers

and the port team at Abstraction Games has been working hard to address them.

For review builds, thereÂ’s a simple workaround: When you launch the game, go to Video Options and change Direct 3D9 to OpenGL, or vice-versa.

(I recognize the problem with the UI flicker from the screenshot. Changing to OpenGL will get rid of it.)

Long story short, this issue has been fixed for the release build!

a better comparison would be games like Ace Attorney in gameplay. but if you like Persona and SMT, i would recommend it to you.

I don't have as much time to game as I used to, so it's hard for me to justify buying a Vita, but as someone who adores 999 and other VN-type games, I can't wait to try this out. I'm sure people are torn over the two, but how does it compare to 999 overall?

many will disagree but Danganronpa is much much worse. You have to solve murder cases and do trials but apart from one case you know how it went down after 5 minutes of investigating but you have to dick around for 3h until you can finally "solve" it. It's really strange as in the game is quite violent but at the same time it treats you like a kid. The story is also.. well not good.

People say 2 is better but i never bothered. i will grab it for a fiver on sale tho.

Oh ok, it's by the same guys who ported A Boy and His Blob. They also didn't have hi-res assets for that one :( but it's perfectly understandable if they're honest in that they weren't provided those.
Upscaling methods for 2d assets are not perfect. There's plenty of people who don't enjoy them.

It got a patch last night before reviews went live that fixed the issue for someone who was reviewing it. The audio looping issue also seems to be fixed in the latest patch. I didn't have the flicker issue though. My review for those interested on Indian Video Gamer - http://www.indianvideogamer.com/reviews/review-danganronpa-trigger-happy-havoc-pc/27555

In many cases the blurry visuals are inconsistent. Like chapter 1 investigation (spoilers)
when makoto's room has all the scratch marks on the floor and the bed, the bed sheet falling over is completely blurry but the part on the bed is more or less fine.

So port is perfectly fine then, nice job (comparing this to playing on microscopic vita screen is hilarious)

Basically. Also, all things considered, I'm pretty cool with the fact that this just exists.

I'm going to definitely be buying a replaying this just to show PC is a viable platform for this game, and hope maybe it convinces them to put New Danaganronpa 3 on PC too!

Not to be a Negative Nancy or anything, but by any chance, have you been playing with a second screen/monitor? I'm so used to having my games played on the second screen, I actually never played it using one. If I use one screen, my game runs perfectly fine. But using two screens, the flickering issue persists. I'd ask if there would be an easy way to fix this, but I guess that question would be easier to solve for when it comes out tomorrow

I just booted it up and tried with a second screen while running Dangan in windowed mode and didn't have any issues. I played for like 10 mins through dialogue and fast travel from mid game.

Did you try a class trial? At the end of a non-stop debate my UI still freaks out. At the end of the day, if it's just me, that's fine as I've gone through the game multiple times already.

I'm not home, but if you want to see footage I can show it when I am home.

No I didn't. I just loaded, walked around, spoke to people, progressed to the next day. Ill check out a trial later tonight and see.

Has there been any confirmation if the game natively renders to 1440p or higher? Native rendering looks a LOT better on my monitor than upscaling 1080p content.

It is the same OST that the CE had in NA I believe. Also you can just get the OST on iTunes or Amazon (I think amazon also has it)

Or uh

Just rip it from the game itself. Theres a chance the files will be easily accessible.

Either way, both soundtracks are in the entirety on spotify

Oh I didn't know it was on itunes. I'll prolly just do that. It seems to be the full soundtrack unlike the Steam version.
