PAL Charts - Week 14, 2015

Insomniac have 200+ employees between 2 teams, From Software have 200+ employees between 3-4 teams. Like I said, relatively small compared to AAA developers.

Their games don't lack in terms of production values because they're good at what they do (Souls and Mech games) and they outsource quite a lot of work. How do you think they've survived off Armored Core all these years?

Not really. Namco has no involvement in development, as far as I'm aware, while Japan Studio doesn't really co-develop the games, they just assist them (same as how Sony Santa Monica assisted Journey).

What other games they are producing? i only know of Souls and Bloodborne games since last couple of years.. Didnt know/follow them before that..so have they produced something else too in last 3 - 4 years?

Nordic Game sales (software) report from Angi/Dataspelsbranschen is out as of today:

http://www.dataspelsbranschen.se/media/151761/nordic_game_sales_2014.pdf

PS4 had half the marketshare (In volume) of the PS3 in 2014, and about 5 times the marketshare of X1 (officially released in September, though readily available before that).

Combined Nordic Marketshare in volume:
PS3 ~32%
PS4 ~17%
PC ~16%
X360 ~15%
DS/3DS ~6%
Wii ~6%
Wii U ~3.5%
X1 ~3.5%
PSV ~0.5%

In Sweden, the software sales of the PS4 have yet to catch up to the software sales of the X360.

Sweden Marketshare in Volume:
PS3 ~23%
X360 ~21%
PC ~18.5%
PS4 ~16%
X1 ~5%

Sweden alone is responsible for 49% of the software sales for the X1 in the Nordic countries, in contrast, Swedes stood for 35% of the software sales for the PS4.
Also 51% of all software sales for the X360, and only 26% of all software sales for the PS3 where from Sweden.

46% of all software sales for the PS4 where rated PEGI 18.
43% of all software sales for the X1 where rated PEGI 18.

The total volume of games sold in the Nordic countries has gone down about 23% YoY, and total value is down around 20%, this has been a trend for the past few years, most likely due to a larger push towards digital (and it being cheaper to import software at times).

Lots more interesting data in the PDF.

Sweden was always a relatively strong market for X360 (don't believe the hype that Xbox was only popular in US & UK), PS3 only slightly outsold it in software units at least. However, the other Nordic countries were a lot more in favour of PS3 as opposed to X360, so PS3 was quite dominant in the Nordic region, but not totally thanks to Sweden which made up over 40% of the Nordic market.

They've released 6 games since 2012:
Bloodborne (Demon's/Dark Souls team)
Dark Souls 2 (formerly the Another Century's Episode team)
Armored Core V (Armored Core team)
Armored Core: Victory Day (Armored Core team)
Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor

Dark Souls 2 was a bit of a mess at one point, so I think a couple of their teams had to help them out.

Bloodborne has very poor legs, hope it meets whatever expectations Sony had for it.

What?

Genuinely curious how you could make this conclusion:

1. It's only in its second week of sales, so making such a judgement on its 'legs' is a little premature.
2. -55% drop is fantastic when it comes to second week drops, most games suffer a 70-80% drop.

nors Dragon age, but yeah I get your point, MS and a lot of xbox gamers seem to only care about shooters, which is a darn shame, even though I too like Halo.

But they dind't marketed Dragon Age ( with bundles also ), probably Xbone won't come bundled with Witcher 3 also. But at least they have exclusive cards in most expensive edition. Well, maybe that's a marketing deal.

Caveat, Sweden makes up for about 35% of the total market in the Nordic countries (think Norway is a bigger market, per capita, than Sweden).

Nice at Bloodborne topping the charts for March. I thought BF:H on PS4 would actually do a bit better cause it launched earlier. I didn't know Inazuma 11 was still a thing.

Yeah so apparently that was BS. Thrakier talked to him on Steam or something.

He's not on my friends list anymore :/ must have removed me if he's still living the pool life.

Always wondered if it was his sister being a bellend again.

I think a bunch of Insomniac's games fans don't have an X1. if the Franchise moves to PS console it might sell better, but also, think the humor and art direction wasn't universally appealing.

Or the music.

The humour killed it for me, the art direction was okay and the music was terrible. I love all of Insomniac's games but this one did not appeal to be at all.

The humour was very American focused and most people outside of that consider it cringe worthy. Even Sunset TV was terrible.

Erm, Bloodborne is still the best selling SKU in the UK...

Well it didn't start off that well in UK and this is PAL charts, I don't just mean the UK. It has not held up well in countries such as Germany and for a game which such praise the sales are not looking that good. On a WW front even more so, huge drop in Japan but we don't know US sales yet. Pulling a number straight out my arse, I think WW this game will end up selling 2 million when all is said and done which is not too bad.

I don't think sales matter much for a game like this, silly as that sounds. It's one of those games which Sony will see as a feather in their cap, just them being able to say they have the game under their belt would mean a lot to them, for the media they can certainly say they have an outstanding PS4 only game out there in the wild. It's like Team ICO, their games never sold huge amounts but they were a prestige studio, it's a running joke but I do personally believe that Trico will see the light of day. The game overall will not have ended up cheap, no matter how small the team is. But back when Ueda was still there, I believe some years ago someone at Sony even said that Team ICO was the jewel in their crown. That's how I imagine Sony see Bloodborne, a game liked by the hardcore that does not need to sell several million to be seen as successful.

Basically From is going to come good out of this which is what matters most :P

Chart not out yet?

I expect BB to stay at n number one, not much in the way of competition.

Horizon 2 will probably rise further, the 360 version was on sale for ÂŁ25 the last few days.

Chart's been out for quite some time. Both Battlefield and Bloodborne dropped by about the same amount so the individual charts are topped by Bloodborne.

It is, but it's the worlds most boring chart as far as the top 10 is concerned. Mostly non movers.

EA’s ‘Battlefield Hardline’ (-56%) claims a 4th consecutive crown as it stays just ahead of ‘FIFA 15’ (-8%).

With little in the way of new releases familiar faces jostle for position in the Top 10 this week. ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-39%) is down a place to No3 but remains comfortably ahead of Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 4’ (-44%). ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (-42%) is up one place to No5 pushing PS4 exclusive ‘Bloodborne’ (-58%) down to No6. Both ‘Forza Horizon 2’ (-17%) at No7 and ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ (-33%) at No 9 climb into the Top 10 boosted by strong sales of their respective Xbox One Hardware bundles.
Take2’s ‘Borderlands: The Handsome Collection’ (-56%) is sandwiched between the two at No8 in its third week. ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-37%) is also back in the Top 10 after a one week absence. PQube’s motorbike racer ‘Ride’ (+81%) is boosted by the addition of Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions propelling the title 31 places to No18 following its release at the end of March.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's looking pretty boring. Things will heat up soon though.

Decent hold for BB, seems to bave some legs unless it's bundled?

Yup, it's heavily bundled. ÂŁ349.99 at Game with a choice of a second game in The Order, Driveclub or TLOU, or ÂŁ369.99 for BB, The Order & a choice of Farc Ry 4, COD:AW or Destiny.

Argos also have The Order and BB for ÂŁ349.99

Whoa, great value bundles.

Sony keep knocking the bundle game out of the park.

It mentions bundles for the game in the PR along with Halo (and Fifa) as the reason yeah.

Anyone got any chart track links? On mobile.

How did I not see that...I hate browisng my on phone sometimes. Too easy to miss vital bits of info.

And Jesus Christ at DS2 dropping 17 places on X1. Held much better on PS4, even with BB drawing all attention away from it.

I expected the roles to be reversed...
