Wait.....DRIVECLUB is actually good? I'm not talking about just weather either.

I picked this game up recently b/c of the amazing price (35) and weather effects and while the latter is unbelievable in motion, it's the gameplay that has me surprised.....b/c it actually drives well.

I will start by saying I own both PS4 and XB1. I've owned both forza games and drive club (IMO) is better than both.

Right off the bat - this game is not a sim. In fact it's more on the arcadey side which is what I love so much about it. The handling feels more forgiving with the ability to really drive fast and than break or ebrake around corners. It's not nearly as over the top as burnout but not as unforgiving as Forza. It strikes a great balance and overall the driving really impressed me as it felt good. Different traction really felt diff on the road too which was nice.

I also like how this is more old school driving - no open world driving around trying to find an event. No goofy over the top people to annoy you. Just straight racing. I actually like that and although might be in the minority - I don't have time to find races on an open world. Get me to the race, let me play and be done with it.

Anyway - thought I would make this topic as I'm sure others might have the wrong impression of this game. Really glad I tried this out. btw it's an absolute stunner, blowing away all the competition graphic wise.....but you already knew that. The only thing I'm trying to understand is the MP component of it and how challenges, etc work. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

I love the gameplay a lot. I still don't know why Jeff Gerstmann hates it so much.

It's a very solid Racer with a lot of content.

I feel exceedingly bad for the team that made this game... I've heard actually almost 100% positive reviews from gamers I know after the issues got resolved, and most people out there will never play this game because it's been broken for awhile...

Very sad. And a very hypocritical post of me, because I'm one of those guys that won't try it at this point... although I was only going to try to PS+ version.

people wrote it off because of broken online.. now thats fixed people can focus on its other points. The weather patch is great because it gets people interested in it again, as will the PS+ release.

It is a good game and I hope it gets more attention.

Yeah, it's actually a decent game if you look at the gameplay side. It's just that not everyone appreciates the penalties (especially when it's the AI that pushes you into one) and the fact that the singleplayer stuff isn't really that big. I mean, it's a racing game like the rest. It doesn't do anything new, but it doesn't do anything wrong either.

What I don't understand is why everyone reviewed this game as if it lacked something other race games DO have. I've played Need for Speed: Rivals and that game is exactly the same as Driveclub if you look at the content. The only difference is that it is "open world" and that annoying cops chase you 24/7. Hell, I even prefer the driving in Drive Club over NFS: Rivals by a long shot.

Keep in mind the online problems only started AFTER reviews were out, so this game reviewing not so good isn't because of the online issues. I think it's quite strange. Hell, there are reviews out there blaming this game for not having an open world..

Is there even a solid single player in there? I was also thinking about getting it because of the GFX but I'm hesitating because I was told there is not much content when you play alone.

How can I imagine the SP? Like in GT? But as far as I've seen there is no tuning available for the cars...

I love the gameplay. Time trials are a lot of fun. I don't like the AI, though. It's not necessarily bad or unrealistic, but it's a bit too crash-happy for my taste, especially when it occasionally bumps into you from behind.

I also appreciate that the game comes without car settings and car upgrades nonsense. It just focuses on the driving part.

Can't believe they still haven't released the PS+ edition yet though. I have been dying to try it before considering buying it :-(

people in the OT have been saying the actual gameplay is good since launch

it was the network issues that soured everyone on the game, then the haters just dogpiled on because everyone loves to troll. I don't believe most people that hate on the game have actually played it.

AI bumping into you and causing a penalty for you is one of my biggest issues with this game, but it's not like it ruins the game or anything.

Game doesent punish smashing into other racers...-_- (a tactic used far too often by the AI) and how come the AI can handle the terrain in inclement weather like a champ? I'd like for at least one of them to slip around in a realisic way.

Gorgeous at times, absolutely- but kind of a run of the mill racer.

Single player is great. You have the main tour which has enough content and then challenges increases the re playability of the game after completing the tour.

It was always a good game but with the online/social features completely borked at launch and sometime after that - the actual content/gameplay was more than fine. We will probably have loads of LTTP posts once the stigma disappears and The Order comes out...

There is a huge singleplayer tour - even bigger now since there's additional events since some DLC was given for free due to the multiplayer outage.

DriveClub is a phenomenal game. The gameplay is top notch, the cars drive brilliantly, the tracks are designed brilliantly, the graphics are unbelievable. Game deserves sales. It's incredibly underrated.

Can't say much for the online because I don't give a shit about it.

yeah there is nothing wrong with the driving, it has a great sense of speed and it strikes the good balance between simulation and arcade, atleast in my opinion.

I think it looks great and exactly what I want from a racer. I don't care about tuning up my car and really don't like open world racers. It also looks kinda arcadey just like PGR which was the last racing game I enjoyed.

If I didn't already have such a big back catalogue I would already own it. Will definitely get it at some point though.

I have still not played it or any of the current gen Forza games, but I agree. When it comes to racing games I prefer choosing tracks over an open world, it's why I was a big Burnout fan up until Paradise, and even though that game is loved (rightly so) it just wasn't to my taste. I like to choose the track and jump straight in, preferably a track with laps too, rather than point to point.

When the game launched, its penalties were extremely harsh and stupid. You got points deducted when an opponent hit you from behind, then you would spin and hit the sidelines, and get more deducted points. And it went on and on. It was really bad

But after a balance patch, it feels just about right. It still encourages good driving, so no hitting other cars as a cushion on corners, going off track, etc, That kinda behavior still gives you a penalty, but it's not as strict (read: frustrating) as before, so it feels quite right.

Driving and cornering is satisfying as well, and the sense of speed is great. I still don't like much its drifting, but it's nothing terrible.

So, its gameplay is great. Definitely among the best racers I've played, and put the best visuals yet in a racing game (and I'm including Project Cars in this list, the pre-release builds ofc), and you got a nice package.

If Driveclub was released in its current state, it'd have received excellent reviews. It's a shame it was rushed...

This sums up my thoughts perfectly.

Does it play like Project Gotham at all? I've had a severe lack of Simcade racing games in my life since Bizarre shut down.

Yeah the game is a ton of fun to drive. Handling is awesome. Just enough arcade control mixed with the simulation physics control to make driving in this game plain fun.

It was awesome, this game does sense of speed like none other before it. 100mph feels like 100mph. If you have ever actually done 100mph in a car, you know how tense it can get at times, especially when you see a turn ahead. You get that same feeling here because you actually feel like you are going really fast.

I'm very early in the process but having fun. Hell I redid a race 5x last night just to get a better time and just to enjoy the track. Can't remember the last time I did that. Usually will race through to get to the faster cars and to the other tracks.

Oh, and good lord the lighting man. Holy shit.

"Rushed" implies they knew they would have problems but pushed it out anyway. I reckon they could have delayed another year and still had these growing pains.

SP is pretty solid actually, not epic as GT but probably more fun overall. Driving model is excellent mix overall... its not super realistic but it is also not arcade either, very playable with DS4.

DriveClub is *mainly* point-to-point tracks, just to warn you. I think each environment has one actual circuit, though. So like 5 or 6 of them I believe.

Just tried two races with weather yesterday. First turn while raining in Scotland and one of the AI racers just loses control and smashes against the wall, all by himself.

It's a good game. Not exactly exceptional, but it's a good game. The reviews reflected that.

I just wish they would do something about online gameplay. I haven't played in a while but every time I felt fired up to play, I'd join an online race, get crashed into a whole lot and turn off the playstation.

Needs to be some kind of no collision mode or some kind of ranked system that puts non asshole drivers with non asshole drivers and lets the rest rot in a cesspool of their own making.

Since online was fine for reviewers I never understood the average reviews. The game might be my favorite racer to come out in years.

Recently finished the venom hot lap which was my last goal in the original tour and looking forward to the new tour recently added.

It has a fan base but it's a divisive product there's a lot of reasons to love and hate it, the only two states available to GAF members.

It has two street circuits for each country (with reverse of each) and one race circuit with 3 variations. The recent free track DLCs look to be providing an extra street circuit for each country as well.

AI is still bad, but the better you drive the less of an issue it is.

Balance patches sure helped to reduce frustration.

Yes, it's very good. Some people just seem to think they fucked up the entire game.
There was an issue with the servers. A big obstacle for the game, true. and frustrating. But the gameplay itself is very good.

It's a really great hardcore dedicated racer with great environments, great tracks, great cars, great sound, great handling, etc.

Right now i read stuff like: people who are bad at their jobs should be fired, etc.
I can't even put in words how idiotic these comments are.
Sure, someone fucked up on some level. But to just sit there on your lazy ass saying that these people with families and a mortgages should lose their jobs without even knowing what the game is like is... pretty ignorant.

I don't think the game was rushed, I just think they should have run a beta test for the game

Driveclub is good, though slightly limited. Last time I checked you could not make private games for your friends. You had to play in one of the premade games online. You cannot chose car class or track.

The game also uses a mixture between simulator and arcade gameplay that I am not entirely comfortable with.

While I am warming up to it, I still feel a bit disconnected from the car's behavior.
I feel that many of the reviewers that bashed the game had similar issues.

That being said, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with Driveclub, it is a game I can see several people loving. It is still a bit barebones though.

Absolutely, yes. Personally I'm not a big fan of online multiplayer, so I've been playing DriveClub in single player since launch. It's very old school (and arcade-like) in its design which I appreciate. But the game's absolutely nothing like Gran Turismo for single player. If you're looking for a serious sort of in-depth racer, you won't find it here!
